Picture of the Month - January 2012

Feb 7, 2012

Picture of the Month is an article showcasing the best photos uploaded in the previous month. We take the most viewed shots from the previous month, and pick our favorites out of the top 10.

Last month sees an incredible selection of shots in the POM queue, starting with Sterl's shot of Wade Simmons riding a Rocky 29er down a North Shore rock face. For any of you that were questioning a 29er's ability to handle the shore you should take a good look at this. The is the first time a 29er has made it all the way to POM, they're moving up in the world... The second place shot of Sam Pilgrim 360 whipping by Robin Kitchin is also a first. Not for Robin or Sam, but it's the first time an obviously photoshopped image has made it into the POM. This image was 'shopped by PB user Bob Bogdan Williams, whose ability as a digital retoucher seems to be pretty darn good! Third place is just pure awesome...

The whole trail follows the edge of a deep gorge and it had been a bit scary sometimes when you were directly looking into the abyss hoping to get the turn. -

I was lucky enough to sign onto a week with Big Mountain Tours with Stephen Matthews and Seb Kemp as Guides in Verbier and Zermatt. The mountains in Zermatt were really socked in during our first two days there but the clouds blew out and gave us the views that Zermatt is known for on the last day. Here client rider Peter Classen of North Vancouver was kind enough to crank out a lap for the camera with a background that to this day blows my mind.
 5. Peter Classen at Zermatt by Colin Meagher - 25111 views

 Honorable Mentions include:

"Self Portrait at Snakeonia" by Brad Walton. This is our first runner up with 23581 views.

"Mark Matthews at Dan Leney's Jumps" by Cole Fulton with 21773 views is another great shot.

i love the photo's but you guys really need to swap the order around so that we see number 5 first and number 1 last, then when you see number 5 and think this is awesome you know it's only going to get better Big Grin

Man I don't know about you guys, but number 2 is the most impressive. I'm not a big fan of DJ but that lightning in the shot is insane!

Exactly what I was thinking. They don't start a music countdown from 1, so why POM?

It's such a manly photo there's a guy chopping wood, every thing's on fire, there's a chainsaw and to top it all off there's a mad whip thrown in for good measure......epic

If in face, on #2, that shot was caught WITH lightning like that... then that would be the greatest shot ever. That is pretty much impossible haha. Regardless, #2 has my vote! (Bc it matters! ;-) )

no offence but i think no 4 is the best short just maybe a little to close as does not show the severity of the ride Smile

Why do you think photoshop is easy?

Photoshopping the lightning there is skill.

Lightning happening to be in the shot is luck.
