@stillmrg, keep thinking that because we don't want you here. More room for us on our North Shore trails and at the Whistler Bike Park. Good thing the trails are only clear of snow in July! ;-}
"All you guys are champions" was meant as a statement of respect to all the WC riders, including Steve smith one of my favs who happens to be a Canadian. Ok, be argumentative, but its not like you don't know what he meant. Pinkbikers have it so good with our coverage, why all the bitching n moaning? I've never seen people be so sensitive and aggressive at something so minor and in response to something that's supposed to be fun and exciting. and it wasn't even meant to be offensive in the slightest bit. Why kill the guys passion? Just to make him feel bad about being stoked? Seems counter intuitive for mountain bikers, who I generally see as the most community oriented and open minded folks out in public.
And I do respect all the World Cup riders more than any other human beings, it's just that when you say "you are all champions" it reminds me and elementary school sports day where no kid can have their feelings hurt if they loose so they are told they are the "second winners" and handed medals or ribbons.
@os141121 - The phrase 'you are all champions' reminds you of elementary school because you were there just a couple years ago. My advice to you is to try and wait until -at least- high school before becoming so opinionated.
@vhp4315 - i am entittled to my opinion whether I'm in high school or not. You have not made a valid point against my statement other than telling me that i was in elementary school 4 years ago. BTW what is the definition of a champion?
ya we are entitled to our opinions im a sophomore in high school and this is the internet damn it!!! i will speak my shitty opinions weather you like it or not!!!! now allow me to run away from the negative backlash that comes with internet fights. ie: ur mom jokes being called gay, and being emotionally and socially belittled by keyboard warriors and average Joes alike.
"Lotta people go thru life doing things badly. Racing's important to men who do it well. When you're racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting." - Steve McQueen
With so many top racers going down it just goes to show how brutal this track was. Gwin looked pretty disappointed at the bottom. I wonder how he is going to prepare for Andorra.
@alphadynamic yea for sure! I cheer danny and gee on the whole way down and would love them to podium right through, been gutted for danny, but gwin went from being slated for saying he's the best and being the best to losing his dominating streak completely. that's gotta be hard. couldn't he have fallen back slower?
He did but it's just not the Gwin we've seen for the last two years. it's great to see others on the podium, especially our uk riders dominating, but it's just sad to see a legend fall back so much. and 3rd just wouldn't make him as happy and...ahh forget it, you're right, think about gee and danny, well done gee! haha
You people are delusional. How long do you expect someone to dominate the top spot of this sport for? Where do you think that Gee will be finishing in a couple of years when some younger and faster guys come up?
"Us people"? What you on about man? We're talking about the current crop. Gwin is the CURRENT world champion. Where will Gee finish in a couple of year? If he keeps training and riding like he has been, in the top 3 most likely.
exactly alphadynamic!! slodownu do you seriously think someone just goes from being the best to not even being top five during one off season?? do you realise gwins just 25?
I bet during the six week layoff specialized is going to produce Gwin a new bike. And I hate to say it but I'm guessing it's going to look like a Trek Session!
He admitted in the interview posted yesterday he "doesn't like leaving home", "doesn't like the cold" "doesn't like the wet" also that the training conditions in the USA are very different from the terrane in Europe. So to hell with him, if he doesn't put in the work off-season what does he expect?, especially when riding a new manufacturer. He pulls his finger out of his ass and gets some time in the winter on proper Euro style courses I'm sure he'd be doing a bit better.
cold/wet? it was dry and 30 degrees in Italy, dry and 20 degrees in Scotland and he lives in California? Dont like leaving home? Didn't seem to worry him the last 2 seasons.
Paulskibum, He admitted that at Fort William he was on the wrong sized frame. Specialized had to "borrow" a large frame from demo stock. For a pro-rider going into a world cup on a new bike with a new manufacturer, that's just pure lazy. Sorry, but at his level it's a profession not a hobby. He should have got it sorted during OFF-SEASON
As for my comments about cold/wet, yes, in Europe during the OFF-SEASON it's bloody cold and wet! His admission that the courses in the US are nothing like those in Europe but he doesn't want to leave California in the winter to train over here again smacks of arrogance. Gee Atherton, Danny Hart, Steve Pete train like beasts in the winter in preparation for the World Cup, don't see why he should be different.
I believe the point he is trying to make is Gwinn's comments made it seem like he did not put enough training in during the off season where it mattered, and that is, in the rough technical tracks of Europe. Maybe?
The idea of a DH video game has been around for a while (where you can race and learn the actual world cup tracks) but wouldn't it be cool if someone would develop the technology to be able to display a rider's left and right brake levers in the upper corners of the screen- like a meter showing what percentage pressure they're using at any moment , during their run? the necessary on-board (or bar, as it were) devices necessary wouldn't be too heavy
Would be neat, but heavy and riders wouldn't want it.
What would be cool though, and doable, is rider cams to make up for the loss of coverage in sections. I understand this means a transmitter which equates to weight (probably a go-pro + transmitter would weight 2x a go-pro), but if all riders were required to carry it, it would wash out. Definitely a cost thing, and probably impractical, but one can dream of 100% footage via track cams and rider cams.
huge props to redbull for getting behind the sport!
But seriously, please tell the camera man to stop running circles around the riders at the bottom! i was legit getting dizzy just watching it, and im sure it pisses the riders off for getting up in there grill if they just had a bad run...
will everyone please get off gwins case, from what ive seen of him he seems really humble with no arrogance what so ever. So he said at one given time he was the best rider and the man to beat. He was,ffs he totally destroyed the worlds best riders on every type of course 2 years running. So he left trek,if it was for money good on him,its a very short career so earn while you can i say.As for the demo being the problem, yes id say it is,not that its a bad bike but the trek is pretty much the best suspension platform out there with several years fine tuning and a shock specific to the frame. The demo was designed for sam and brendon with a high front end low bb and a short back end. This suits flat pedal riders who hang off the back to keep the rear from skipping about. Clipped in guys tend to stand more towards the front as they dont need to worry about dropping a pedal. I have no doubt they will sort his frame this season and a totally new frame next season. So show the guy the respect he deserves and im no gwin fan boy its gee all day long being British,it just pisses me off seeing the best rider for years being slated for shit reasons like he's boring in interviews etc. he rides bikes fast,he never said he was a movie star! rant over
To finish first, first you have to finish. All the 'could have's' and 'would have's' count for nothing once the clock starts ticking, from that point on the playing field is level. The only exception to this is when weather has an intervention as in Champery years ago.
Good coverage by red bull again but I hate what has happened with the numbers at the finish line it was better when the rider came through and it showed were they placed rather than were they are in the overall
Don't think it's the bike with gwin, think that he thinks he a super star and didn't put the work and time in needed to win as gee had a bad few seasons he's worked hard for this so good to see it working out for him
It used to always suck. It has been updated and now sucks slightly less than the average video player.
Being able to skip forward and backward in a live broadcast is awesome. I had zero dropouts or lost frames. My only complaint is that when switching camera angles, the codec takes a while to deliver detail and it results in up to 3 seconds of macro blocking.
The live stream is mostly unwatchable for me. I think the issues are more with their streaming media provider than the player. I don't think they have enough bandwidth to handle the traffic.
Even after pausing and letting it buffer for a bit, still lags like crazy and yes, it is slightly better than the old one. I have good internet and a decent laptop, only type of media player that lags and sucks for me. Oh well
Seriously, as a manufacturer I would be more worried about the Spesh fan boys reacting in a hostile manner than people making very minor jokes about a bike.
and congrats for all the races all you guys are Champions.
What are the 2 seasons in Canada?
Answer is WINTER AND JULY!

Not sure what kind of egg sandwiches Rob Warner's been eating!
