You got to give it to Bender...when a bunch of the world cup guys and a bunch of others were hating on free-riding, this guy was sending it off of some huge stuff that would make most dudes cry for their momma. Whether he pulled it off or not...this guy has some neeuuts of steel. I would love to see any of the new school guys hit the jaw drop.
Bender WAS doing huge cliffs. Landed crash free 1/20 times. Jumping a 100' cliff is crazy i admit. Looking at bender back in the days doing it was more fun then anything. Tyler SuperT Klassen in my book was way more profesional and landed whatever Bender couldn't.
Balls hell yeah, Skills .....
Looking at this vid made me believe he recycled in a 14 years old retarded teenager.
Bender like it or not is part of freeride history. I always enjoyed watching him wreck his bikes/neck/balls after landing on his rear wheel. I must admit that this video made him look like a growing retarded teenager!
Remember Bender did it on a bike back in the day, when the bikes were no where near as dialed in as they are today and he had no ace set-up mechanic pro tweeking it for his style/drops! True, guys today (zink and Co.) do stuff he wouldn't do or even imagine - it's called development. He pushed the sport by pushing the bike to extremes - he showed what was possible, maybe not by him, but by someone, if they had the guts, talent and bike. He's lucky to be alive, let alone walking - give him respect. He doesn't need to hear crap from guys who aren't in his league -
oh and he was THE most integral person in big mountain freeriding, he showed everyone what was possible on a bicycle, even he didnt make them all and wasnt exactly the most stylish rider, he just went out and showed everyone what you could do and inspired them, peace
back in the day when Kranked 5 was the shit, and "freeriding" was hucking huge drops, Bender was an idol. If i pulled up to a drop and started to bitch out, I would think to myself "W.W.B.D?" and i would suck it up and drop it. But that was back before freeriding was all about tight pants and bmx tricks...mountain biking should be all about doing things no one though was possible on terrain that is unsuitable for anything but a mountain bike....this last rampage is a sign that we are headed back in the right direction.
erik2k10 who the ! are you ?!!! nobody by the looks of your nothing profile...terrible judging ? and you would know about judging ? try starting with yourself or at least pay your dues the way Bender and the boys have before ripping them; or at least show us all what your qualifications are...but, like i said, nothing by the looks of your 'profile'.
bender is such a cool dude just love him freeride god and top top guy big up bender ur a legend and all the haters can go and eat dog shit :-) good day
yep. what you said. strange that so many of the comments on here are assessing his personality from a 3 min vid : either he is 'out there ' or 'a recycled retarded teenager' and so on - well here's a go for all you judgmental piss ants that have never met him: neither have i met any of you, nor would i want to, and while Bender is an active part of the bike scene and community, you are VERY likely not and really need to give it up and take up a new hobby like, say....eating your nose boogers ! [ probably not new to you though ]
the sick shyte Bender has done is too crazy for anyone that wants to use the only body he has in this life in a way that [may] be wiser; but at least he took hold of something he loves and believes in and DID IT while many sit and pick their nose and do nothing of ANY consequence while criticizing him - it is his life, his body, and while some may think his type of stunts have no style, just huge duuuhhhrops of cliffs, perhaps it is SUBSTANCE over style...the reason Bender is not dead is BECAUSE he 'killed it'
Bender is a total barney. He was never integral in developing the sport, and only ever served as a guide of what not to do. He also sounds quite jealous of Zink with that last comment.
Spangler on the other hand is a true legend.
zink 10 years ago was really spinning off 50ft drops? Bender did not ride his peak in the same time as sink and i think big mountain riding and really massive jump and trop that we see today is a big part of bender's legacy. it's my opinion. and yes he looks strange on the interview but in the mean time it really gives a feeling of old school :p
its not even debatable josh bender played a huge part in stepping up the game in the freeride/ big mtn scene, and to be fare he was hitting huge sh1t with a with a big "suspension" bike but the thing you might want to keep in mind is suspension back than and suspension today are totally different its closer to just taking the springs off ur pogo stick and retro fitting them to a extremely heavy huge hunk of metal than suspension today. but i must say it does kinda look like he might of smoked a big crank rock just off set
dungeon your a idiot, Bender is a huge supporter of Zink being a fellow american rider, I remember his interview on Rip Tv, he was throwing props like crazy at him. Bender is simple, you either love or hate him, but to deny his importance in MTB history or in advancing of technology is just plain idiotic
your an idiot he's not being jealous, he was just saying that for the next rampage theres gona be some crazy big stuff that'll be impossible to 360. Bender's the man and props to him and Randy for still repping mountain bikes in the scene whoop!
I spent a week with Bender this winter in Phoenix, Az. and I woul have to say he is one of the most chill guys out there, and one hell of a rider, and I'm not just talking the Big stuff. The guy railed our dusty trails and still got the big air on trails that don't have big air drops or jumps for the average guy. Bender is great inspiration for us all.
To bad at the same time bender was "pushing" the sport with single ugly airs you had guys like Shandro and Watson riding entire lines in Virgin like The AK Mullet Line. They had the same lack of suspension innovation and were crushing it. Did bender do crazy shit, yes. Did he innovate the sport, not really. If he did we would all still be riding super monsters.
Dungeonbeast, even though bender probably hucked things that were way out of his league it doesn't take away from all the countless hours he's spent volunteering to turn freeriding into what it is today. All of his time spend in the red dirt of Virgin Utah helping other riders get to where they are today has made him a legioned. And all they time you have spent talking trash on him has made you a GIANT DOUCHE... I hope you reconsider your comment above.

The Karpiel that he rode was so Big!
Josh Bender - The king of extreme freeriding

As for Spangler, I do not know. I'm sure someone does.
