In what has to be the most exciting World Cup of the season so far, Brook MacDonald has won his first World Cup, and Aaron Gwin has taken the overall World Cup title!
Thinking about it part of what made it really exciting was when minnar beat gwins time , then you knew it could be any one after him to take the win.
Think we got used to gwin setting a time and it not being touched.
you could tell the other riders felt more comfortable on that mountain than gwin. amazing news to see brook took it, so happy for him, it was only a matter of time. i wonder how he'll be celebrating tonight! Would have loved to see danny hart take a wild run down this course.
Frankly, after Gwin's crash in qualifying.... it's incredible he was riding atall. These top guys are hard as nails.
Also, for me, this race really showed that body armour is worth it. So many really really hard falls, and the riders just get up and carry on.
i might get a ton of flack for this being an american but it feels soooooooo good seeing someone else on the top step that isnt gwin. yeah bulldog!!!!!!
Nice of you to say he stepped back which means this was a pitty win.
He decided to allow them to have some podium time
I keeeeed, dont take me serious please
This was the most under rated race i have ever seen, who ever saw that comming that Brook taking the win.Awesome coverage from Redbull & congrats to Gwin winning the 2012 world cup series.
What a Great race it was though huh, 5 lead changes near the end. I was excited for Gee to finally win another race and gutted to see Aaron get booted from the hot seat. But then the Bulldog came down and we all saw something just amazing......WOW what to go Brook. Its Always a joy to see someone win a WC race for the first time.
Aaron sealed up the WC - race is for 2nd now between Gee and Greg - had a rider come between them - Greg may have still had a shot at the title - but not enough point spread between 4th and 5th. Great race - good track coverage - But Redbull blew it early on with problems. Hope replay is complete. Also way to go Rachel! And while I'm at it - ALL women should gualify!! Not enough to take any out!!!! Lets encourage - not discourage them!!
Why are you summarising what we already know? Did somone tell you to do a write up? Plus No the women are boring to watch i'd rather watch the junior men. I really don't understand why everyone wants to watch them. Its like watching a B grade sport. Id rather see more of the mens with some of the guys that had a bad quilifying run.
Those chicks are still faster than you. Slower people throw gopro videos of themselves up all the time, and you seem to watch them. Give the ladies some respect, they deserve it.
While I agree, it would be great to see more woman race, why let all qualify just to make up the numbers? Shouldnt they be treated as equals, and go through the same qualifying as the men? Thats like saying make a course for females only, to encourage more to the sport. It's the world cup, if you can't step up and play with the likes of Rachael etc, keep practicing, no free passes.
Chuffed that there was a first time winner despite hoping Gee was going to take it. Love the fact him and Bryce were so happy for Brook at the end, especially Josh. Just a shame Josh lost time on the lower sections after being half a second up at split 1. Stoked that Rach won again and Manon Carpenter's getting back to form, she's going to be challenging Rach and Ragot next season, no doubt. The right man has won it, fair play to Gwin for getting down in 5th despite his injury, I'm finding it harder and harder to dislike him. As someone else has mentioned, it really came to life for me when Minnaar beat Gwin's time.
I find the replay service absolutely shocking to be honest- missed the world cup live because of work, put the replay on and thanks to the continuous feed I tuned in to see the last couple of riders, rather than being able to watch it from the start. Then after that there has been nothing but videos of other red bull sponsored sports on when clicking on links for the replay. So by the looks of today's world cup, you had a small window in which to catch the replay, then that's it.
Red Bull really need to geit their shit together or advise the production company to do it. Apart from the stable boradcast I would have expected way more from a comapny with one of the largest marketing budgets out there.
really wanted to watch this race and so stoked for Bulldog! but every site PB rebull and Dirt etc spoiled it with results anounced and now no replay? why do they keep doing this crap to us that are asleep on this side of the earth when actual race is on...?
Awesome to see Brook kill it! And Josh was looking good for a bit there too.
Crazy course and some epic wrecks. Beer's hit was over the top. Spagnolo's was pretty ugly too.
Great race. Now to go ride. It's only 1030 here!
Gee doesn't usually smile when he loses which proves how cool the bulldog is. I;m so happy someone broke Mr. Boring's deadlock on the top step of the podium.
That track looks horrible to me. I don't fancy riding it one bit!
It's SO WRONG when mtb downhill athlete pulling out their best to win , yet this sports not in Olympics,,
whereas somebody is ROBBING a medal from horses which they call EQUESTRIAN
People saying they like a change in the results....I guess, but a lot of it has to do with injury. Danny's not even riding, Gwin and Steve are not riding to their potential. Also, I'd be fine with Gwin always coming out on top
ok WTF where is the replay, us in the countrys that when the race is on it is 3am, and we have work or school the next day cant watch it live wtf red bull we want the replay
he's perhaps got some more exprience on off cambery tracks having ridden for so long, most tracks don't feature quite so much off cambery sections, most of the old downhill tracks were off camber and grassy rather than rough so it sorta makes sense :S
still its good to see him back in the right sorta mix, keep it up Dr Peat!!!
Yeah, by my calculations based on the times of each sector (sector 1: beginning to split 1, sector 2: split 1 to split 2, sector 3: split 2 to end) of the course, he was 0.654 secs faster than Gwin from split 1 to the end (he crashed on the first sector).. So, had he not crashed and had a time within 0.654secs of Gwin he would made a podium run .
Why do people get sooo wrapped up with times of riders who crashed? Yes, it was a good time after having a spill, but if he was going at a pace where he stayed in control, would he have made the podium? No.
So... can we start flat pedals vs clipless debate again? Look! There were two flatties in top three! There must be something in it! These must be some new flats available earliest in 2014!
yeah but the mens is a much more competitive class.. look at the magins between the gals compared to the mens.... dont get me wrong i still enjoy watching the womens races but the mens is where the bike makes a bigger difference due to the smaller gaps they're won by
The thing that gets me most is the shitness of the camera work. The amount of time you spend looking at "arty" shots of grass. FFS. Save the arty stuff for your own albums, the rest of us want to get max rider time, from angles that really show everything.
wheres my atherton projects?
growing impaitent.
great job to bulldog too !

Just brilliant

Lets see what World Champs brings us!!
