SRAM gets a new rig for Europe!

A few weeks ago at Val di Sole SRAM said goodbye to their old trailer. This week at Champery they get to test out the new one. The workshop is roomy and smells like new car.

photo
No screwing around with mini tractors anymore. This merc is the real deal. Sleeper cab, a few hundred horses, 2 fuzzy dice and 1 dancing hula girl. And one very, very stoked German named Fluffy.

photo
Some things change. Some things stay the same. A relic.

photo
Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. Boxxer central.

photo
How many people want to go shopping in this drawer...

photo
It's been a busy week as mentioned, this drawer was full on Monday. See those pink and red ones up there? It's the death of 9 spd, those are the only ones left.

photo
This is the Blackbox workstation. Magic happens here.

photo
If only my kitchen had this much counter space...

photo
That's a shiny new CNC lathe. In the truck. What can they custom build? "Pretty much anything you need".

photo
If you need it, they've probably got it.

photo
The rolling Blackbox lab just got a whole lot roomier this week. Jon has room to move and is going to crack the whip to keep it clean.

photo
  More work for JC.

photo
SRAM's pit boss shows us the way to the deck.

photo
The roof deck is going to be the place to be at world cups next year to watch the XC, that's for sure.

photo
The new kitchen is nicer than most euro apartments. Roomier too, and with a bigger fridge to boot.

photo
Just like on cribs... what's in the fridge?

photo
The conference room with flat screen and full computer/ipad/projector connectivity. Sweet!

photo
You can even snoop on the boys outside from the windows.

photo
Evan Warner gets his rebuild on at one of the new work stations. No more rickety tables for these boys.

photo
It's been a busy week already.

photo
The most important wheeled crate SRAM has. The new coffee machine and cooler. Pit Stop!

photo
The new awnings will allow for a whole lot more fans to cram in for Boxxer world's on Saturday.

A truck that cost more than the race series it was built for.
  • 28 0
Their truck has a lathe, our arguments are invalid.
  • 4 0
 but no mill. :/
  • 27 0
Everything is neat & tidy. The only thing missing is an F1 car...

  • 11 0
They're the only ones left because everyones using the 9spd ones and left the 10 spd ones ha.

everyone bitched about 9 speed too. haters gonna hate
  • 4 0

A mini lathe in a race trailer? That's awesome, and the fact that its a Mercedes makes it even better
  • 14 4
Sorry PB, but that's not a CNC lathe. It is manual lathe. See the handles on it - means you turn it by hand. Not by Computer Numerical Control.
What can they custom build? "Pretty much anything you need" - Ha ha, as long as it needs to be round.
  • 5 1
Then what is that Giant Computer doing attached to it?
  • 5 0
All the CNC lathes I've operated have manual controls. They allow you to bring stock down to a convinient size before you run your program, or do quick part offs. That looks like a CNC lathe to me.
  • 2 0
Well, since everything in your fork and shock is round there should not be any problems Razz
  • 3 1
Its not CNC...its just a digital readout for precise manual control.
  • 4 0
As a Toolmaker / machinist, i can tell you its not a CNC.
  • 2 1
Also as a former Tool and Die maker, that's a manual lathe, not a CNC lathe.
  • 1 0
Yep I agree I'm also a toolmaker google the lathe and see it has a motor which is varispeed the readout is to see what speed lathe is doing, really very basic
  • 1 0
Its a manual lathe aright used one before they're made in Germany
  • 2 0
Nice little machine none-the-less. I'd be stoked to have one in my garrage, along with a VF4....
  • 3 0
When we say "toolmaker" it does not mean I'll make you a hammer Smile
  • 5 0
Sorry guys, I normally just run with the captions I'm given by the photographers. I should have taken a closer look, but if I change it now all your comments will seem pointless. So let it be said that it's a really nice manual lathe with a variable speed motor. There's a link above if you want to know exactly what it is.
  • 1 0
Haha. Class act, Ian. I didn't let Fraser get away with it either! Big Grin
  • 1 0
 Haha, Either way it's sweet!
  • 1 0
haha 'Husky 360', I thought the exact same thing - you can make anything you want... as long as its round - but most suspension internals are round anyway so it probably has its uses, a pillar drill would probably be more useful though! haha

 Merc V8... making Europe flat

Soooo, Blackbox is just a white drawer. I knew those internet speculations about it would lead nowhere.
  • 3 2
Isn't the boxxer in the first picture strange? The one on the right with black stanchions has the compression adjustments on the left and the bottom out adjustment on the right.. (sorry, don't know how to call them in english)
By the way I want that too!
  • 3 0
Its Blackbox shizz.. theyre SUPPOSED to be strange.
  • 1 0

 - See those pink and red ones up there? It's the death of 9 spd, those are the only ones left. -
