Sixty seconds with Terri-Anne
by John Lee
Jan 29, 2010
The world is full of talented riders and people working their guts out to make it in the world of riding and racing bikes. Welcome to the tenth of many, quick slap in the face style, 60 second interviews - and next up, 4x racer and DH rider Terri-Anne.
Catch Terri-Anne inside (if you can),
Catch Terri-Anne inside (if you can),
Name – Terri-Anne (most people call me T-A!)
Age – I’ll be 24 on Friday (Today!)!
Hometown - Crawley, UK.
Race/Discipline – Race 4X, ride DH.
Bike/s – Charge Blender, Orange Patriot 66 and Gary Fisher Big Sur.
Job – Purchasing Assistant for Evans Cycles.
Sponsors – Fox Europe & P.Yates Cycles
Best ever moment in 2009 - Definitely the Redhill 4X National Champs, women’s final: I was sat in the gate with the girls, watching the juniors go down, when the heavens opened. Within minutes the track was a mud bath! Our final was complete carnage- every corner, someone went down. Having slipped out on the hair pin before the last straight- I ended up running across the line into 2nd place- soaking wet, covered in mud and dragging my bike behind me! I can’t remember what happened next, I think I just collapsed into someone’s arms giggling my head off!
Worst ever moment in 2009 – Realizing I couldn’t afford to go Whistler again…
Worst injury from biking – Hit a wet root- a tree stopped me mid flight. I didn’t break my collar bone- but it was painful enough for me to respect those who have.
Favourite place to ride – Whistler- Canada.
Best thing you ever found on the street – £20
Who do you most enjoy riding with – Hatch, Dowie, Simms, Sinders, Super P, Jack H, Matt and Jono, Katie, Gethin, Mop Head, Coop, Canty, Munn, Fatty, Renwick, Max... too many to name, but they know who they are!
Favourite Chocolate Bar – A Crunchie.
On your iPod at the minute – Simian Mobile Disco’s ‘Temporary Pleasure’.
All time favourite film – Impossible to answer, there are soo many good films out there…
What energy drink do you spend your pennies on – Rockstar- mango flavour.
Your dream sponsor would be – I am lucky enough to have really good support this year from Fox and P.Yates- I don’t think a girl could ask for more than that!
Who did you last get mad with - Probably with myself, over the state of my bedroom!
Most embarrassing moment – Humm, ok here’s one off the top of my head: So, went to Thailand a few years ago with my good friend Gemma and her family. In Bangkok we decide to get a message. I go into this room, and a little Thai woman signals for me to take my clothes off… Oh, ok. So I undress… I have this massage, which includes all kinds of exposing positions, all the while I am trying not to burst out laughing! Finally the ‘ordeal’ is over and I meet my friend Gemma outside… When we’re on the street I turn to her and make a comment about how embarrassing it was being naked… Gemma just turned to me, and gasped, ‘you were naked!?’…Turns out, I was meant to keep my bra and pants on. I didn’t live it down for the rest of the holiday!
Pinkbike or Wideopen -
Riders that inspire you – Cheesy as it sounds, my other half Christian Hatcher. Even before I knew him- I liked his riding style and attitude. Just last year he made a comment he might start a racing team to encourage young riders who show good potential- but haven’t been given any support. I thought it was a good idea and nodded in agreement, but never thought it would actually happen! After endless emails, phone calls and meetings- the 44 Racing Team is set and ready to go for 2010. He’s giving something back to the sport and offering some young riders an awesome opportunity this year - I think that’s something to be proud of.
Cheese on toast or Beans on toast – Beans (with cheese on top!).
Best result in 2009 – 2nd at the National Champs.
Hopes for 2010 – See more girls on the 4X circuit and to race some DH!
People you want to say thanks to - Hatch- my personal bike mechanic! The guys at Fox Europe and P.Yates Cycles for their support in 2010. Foz Willis, for hooking me up with Pete. Steve ‘The Butcher’, Andy ‘The Duck’ Dunwoody (Andydunwoody.com) and Steve Kavanagh (Englishbayphotography.co.uk), for their support in ‘09.

I broke my collarbone, hurt like no other. Put me out for a full season, I still don't have full rotation with my shoulder. You must have gotten a lucky break!

I know what your mean, I would defiantly rather be in school wasting time with a broken collarbone then wasting time in the summer with a broken ccollarbone.

On the UK 4X scene, 90% of riders race in clips. This is also true of BMX racing.
It makes my gates more competitive, increases power transfer and I happen to prefer my foot position in clips. It's also not uncommon in XC- so I'm not sure what road riding has got to do with it?
I am also riding clips in the 2nd photo as well.
