Skidmarx - Ibis Video

Jun 27, 2012
by Tyler Maine

Skidmarx from Ibis Cycles on Vimeo.

Earlier this Spring, with rain falling in France and mud season in full swing in Jackson Hole, Brian Lopes invited Anne Caroline Chausson and Andrew Whiteford to ride some tacky but not muddy Southern California trails. Check out Anne-Caro hanging with the boys.

LMAO. Indeed. Not to mention slow, boring, lame, dull. Guess that's what happens when you let Brian Lopes go first.

Getting old that one..... or maybe just in NZ?
  • 3 2
 Ha..Nice zoomzoom....perhaps they've lost there Mojo.......

WTF! there are 2 major problems with this video..... 1- they are exposing a trail and its name...which could potentially threaten it's existence. NOT COOL! 2- they skipped all the major features on the trail....if your gonna blow up a trail.....at least have the balls to hit all the features on it.

 Why you hating man.
What did they not hit? From what I could see they hit everything.

And this trail is illegal. I got in trouble for riding it once, and so if the cops know so many people ride this, they will close this down for sure

  • 5 2
I totally agree jdgrimes, every time I go there, there are more and more people it BLOWS! For one, they missed all the drops and secondly they honestly made the trail look kinda lame. I think Danny Hart did the trail much more justice. Skyline, I ride that trail pretty often and have never taken any heat from anyone except for a park ranger who does not want you doing the upper section above Skidz.
  • 6 2
This trail is on plenty of vids. Just not exposed like this.

Ride it like the locals... www.pinkbike.com/video/254015

Not a great thing for this trail, doesn't need the publicity that's for sure...

@jdgrimes, i think brian lopes has more balls tha any of us here f**k whit so dont go saying shit that u knows wrong www.youtube.com/watch?v=85V1Xewv20k
  • 8 3
It's not about whether or not Lopes has balls or not... he's still a tool that disrespects other peoples riding style. Anyone that talks shit on Rdog's whips can go fuck themselves- especially after watching this. As far as trail poaching goes- Special Ed just did the same thing to our trail up in the 831. People just don't give a fuck anymore.
  • 7 0
No disrespect to Anne-Caro obviously - she' shreds hard as
  • 1 0
www.pinkbike.com/video/243716 these guys filmed there too and actually hit all the big stuff and didnt expose it..
  • 1 0
socal, I actually got in trouble for doing the last half

haha, with all the fuss made over this secret trail, my curiosity was aroused. There are enough clues to it's location in this thread to find it's location without truly knowing its name. Now not to worry, I won't divulge any more myself and likely will never ride it since it's at least 100 miles away and well I likely lack the balls to ride most of the features anyway.
  • 26 3
this trail is hardly a secret....theres info and vids all over the web....but I agree they dont have to advertise the trail name if its in jeopardy of getting shut down I think people are just hating because they hit it up on 6 inch travel bikes without full face helmets and DH racing suits, HA!
  • 4 1
Legend, this is the only comment I agree with in this whole thing.
  • 7 3
you guys dont even get it. they skipped all the big stuff too while publicizing the trail. theres a vid of the guys who built it riding it on 5-6 inch bikes in half shells and they ripped everything. just thought i'd straighten that out
  • 2 2
So some people are more skilled than others. What is your point? This trio is only as good as their weakest link for filming purposes. And if there is a vid of the guys who built it, they obviously don't mind the publicity! 2 more things- they are wearing half shells aaand their bikes are only 6.5", not much bigger
  • 1 2
i can ride like this on my schwinn

I've been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to grow up in so cal surfing, skating, snowboarding and riding bikes. The sad part of it is no matter what sport I was doing there was always the "Its OURS" "Locals Only" mentality groups. You guys cry about everyone finding about the SECRET trail? Why? First off there aren't enough mountbikers let alone freeride/dh mountain bikers in SO CAL to BLOW up the trail. It would take the entire population of So Cal Freeride/DH'ers to happen to come out on the same day to make it un-ridable. Stop with the sense of entilement "It's our secret trail" REALLY? What a lame attitude to have. The only way I could ever seeing not wanting to share info on a trail is if it was illegal and bringing attention would cause problems.
  • 6 3
this trail is illegal and bringing too much attention to it will cause problems....
  • 3 1
i now some trails that where took down because they where illegal and lots of people where riding that would suck if that happened at this trail
  • 4 3
Increased use of any resource will require maintenance and at a certain density, rules for use. Just because you can't see why people like to protect their local spots, it doesn't mean they're being unreasonable. Too bad we're in 2012 where everyone feels the need to brag about every detail of their life on twitter and facebook and pinkbike, thereby ensuring that trails will get hammered and ragged faster than otherwise, trail user conflicts will ramp up, and MTB foes will have more ammunition to point fingers and accuse. Living in the moment is fine when your activity doesn't affect others. Unfortunately, publicizing a trail or further promoting a trail will always affect others. So it's a good idea to consider the long-term impacts of publicizing, tweeting, facebooking, youtubing, vimeo-ing, GoPro-ing, PB-ing or posting in any forum. The need to brag is a strange thing. Apparently it's very strong among MTBers.

Only the top 20% of this trail is on government land and can technically be "shut down" by police/forestry service. The lower 80% is owned privately. The only reason people keep saying it will be shut down is because the homeowners association in that neighborhood is all pissy about so many trucks going in and out, parking on their streets, etc... If people would just take the time to consider how they might be affecting others (the homeowners) there would probably be no major issue with foresty or police so long as people arent getting hurt up there. Which brings me to my next point, and probably the real reason many of the locals (myself included) are upset with the publicity. The trail has been ridden to hell, which i think is great! The more the marrier, but everyone (especially us locals) needs to do their part to keep the trail at least decently maintained. Anyone who has ridden recently can tell you that the breaking bumps are like some u might find on a motocross track, there are ruts deeper than the mauritius trench (for those of you who are not geography buffs thats the deepest place on earth), and the birms have become more dilapidated than the slums of gotham city. So I say to the locals, next time you go ride skidz, bring a shovel and just fix one corner, or rut, or smooth one section out. To our guests, we are happy to share our awesome trail with you but do your part too, something small works, just move a large rock off the path, or clear a little brush. If each person does something every time, then we can have all an amazing trail and awesome pro riders right in our backyard.

Why I getting negative. I'm 27 and I'm saying Brian lopes is a bad ass rider and I wish I can get the skills and knowledge he has gained over his years of riding. And at age 40 my goal is to be that good!

Oh yeah cause a few more people riding the trail is going to ruin it for anyone else... Get over your selves you selfish pricks... Props to the guys helping people out with directions to some of the best trails in so cal. It's always good to see riders on the trails no matter what. What are you gonna do? Kick them off? Think again...
  • 2 0
Since I have personally met the trail crew ( and have phone numbers ) and asked them to ride something I did not build , I think everyone should do the same, if you don't know the hometown heroes who sweated their ass off for us. Maybe you should since it's their time on their dime which allows us to have this gem. Just my two cents .
  • 7 2
Screw you skidmarx! This place owes me a new wheel and a pedal... I think this place is located somewhere on the fully loop.
  • 4 1
I think it's right next to that hill climb that no one can do. Right by the start... I think it's on Harbor.
  • 3 0
Wow... what's with all the hate? I didn't know the title was the name of a trail until you guys started posting up. If I was a trail builder, I'd be stoked to know that Lopes liked the trail enough to hit it.
  • 6 5
Lame vid. No bueno on exposing and poaching trails. And if you are gonna do it, atleast make a decent vid. Not familiar with the trail and its not local to me...but if it were I wouldnt be to happy : /. Step your game up IBIS, you are better than this!
  • 4 4
I agree, I'm a local to the trail and they made it look way lamer than it actually is. It's one of the better freeride trails in southern California and it definitely doesn't look that way from the vid.
  • 7 10
Ibis is better than this? They sponsor Brian Lopes, so how good could they be?
  • 4 2
^^wut. pretty sure brian lopes is a pretty good rider. unless you're thinking of like, another brian lopes... or something... in which case, I apologize.
  • 2 1
Yeah well I'm pretty sure the Brian Lopes I'm talking about is a douche. "Pretty good" relative to what/who? If he were such a good rider he wouldn't have been so quick to shit all over freeriding as if it instilled a fear that he hasn't felt since he saw someone with bigger muscles than him. That is, assuming he even believes such a person exists. I did say in my previous comment that the Lopes I was talking about is sponsored by Ibis, so how many Brian Lopes' do they sponsor? The one I'm talking about is the one I just described. I'd agree that he's a good racer. A good racer isn't necessarily a good rider. Lots of people can lift weights & ride a bike fast down a hill. Pretty good riders are dudes like Gee Atherton & Cedric Gracia who would rather take part in something like Rampage rather than shit on it because it scares them. They not only take part in it but they do well at it. They also don't shit all over anything that doesn't revolve around them. Furthermore, I never said I sought to cast a negative light on Ibis due to his performance on his bike. It's his behavior off the bike that caused that. His racing performance at 40 years old is impressive & respectable, I guess, but that's about all I know of about him that is. People that know him better may know better things. Self glorification/absorption are not virtues.
  • 4 3
This video is better than any of the crappy at home edits I've seen from any of you tools, Brian lopes is a far more skilled rider than any of you, don't worry about your trail, it won't get blocked off because some one made a video with it. Stop sitting at your comps all day and go ride and build...... chumps.....
  • 1 0
All the people saying "it doesn't matter if more people know about it!" are WRONG because the trail ends on private property and the neighborhood completely HATES DHillers riding through there. Also up top! the rangers driving on the road hate bikers and they tell us to get off. giving directions is what you do if you want one of the best trails around to get shut down!
  • 7 3
Skidz is sick but Brian put his style all over it
  • 3 0
Woah! So much seppo negativity. Here's to not ever posting a video on a US trail again.
  • 2 0
if you've never ridden here, its because no has felt that your worthy enough to ride it. be that as it may, these fools need a new brake sponsor, they sound disgusting

Funny how the comment about it being frowned upon to say the name of a trail gets propped but people saying the trail getting blown up and not truly shown gets negged. The people on here are a joke.
  • 3 4
I don't know why you guys are hatin on Lopes, he's obviously a very talented rider, which Ibis saw in him. He has made huge changes to the Ibis line up with his extensive knowledge in bikes. For bein a 40 year old and still able to shred, I give him a ton of credit. But thats just the way I see it. While the video was crappy, it showed what the HD is capable of, and should have shown much more.
  • 5 4
Oooooooooo Noooooooo. Lmao The secret is out. It's in. Elsinore!!!!!! Lol. By the way. No such as a secret trail. So stop bitching and ride!!!!!
