Riding NYC - Trials biking in the city that never sleeps
For a trials rider, New York City is more than just stunning tourist attractions. Riding the trials bike through this incredible town gets you in contact with a unique and unexpected diversity of riding spots and people. Every city has it’s share of classic "street spots,” but the Big Apple offers plenty of artificial as well as natural obstacles, which make a trials rider’s heart leap for joy. Austrian Red Bull trials rider Tom Oehler visited the United States to showcase his abilities during a demo tour along the East coast and then headed to the city that never sleeps. Visiting his friend and fellow trials rider Chris Clark (of Bell Helmets) in Hoboken, he spent a week searching for the best spots on both sides of the Hudson River. With the Austrian Alps as his home base, Thomas knows a thing or two about fantastic natural terrain. But surprisingly Thomas found one of the best natural trial spots he has ever ridden in a megacity far away from home...
About Thomas OehlerThomas Oehler is an Austrian trials rider and former Trials World Champion. For years he had been in the top five of the UCI trials ranking. After gaining the World champion title he retired from competitive sport and since then he concentrated on travelling the world with his bike doing demo shows or beeing part of several photo- and film projects. He holds two Guinness world records ("Highest wallclimb on a bicycle", "Fastest 400 meters hurdles on a bicycle"). In the last years he concentrated on riding street-trials as well as high alpine mountainbiking, for example when riding in sheer impossible high alpine terrain in last year`s video project "Sea of rock".
