Trips for Kids Vancouver Film Contest

by Tyler Maine
May 26, 2011

Trips for Kids Vancouver is looking for submissions from riders from around the world for its inaugural GoPro/Giro Helmetcam Film Festival, being held on May 27th, 2011 in Vancouver as part of its infamous fundraiser, Downbeat 2011.

We are looking for the best short videos shot entirely or primarily by helmetcam, up to 2 minutes long, from any and all action sports: if it’s epic, we wanna see it.

The top submissions will be selected to screen as part of the inaugural event and the winners will receive prize packages including a GoPro HD Helmet HERO camera, a Giro Remedy helmet, and a prize pack from The North Face, and more.

This is a great opportunity to get your video on the big screen, win some cool prizes, and support an organization that gets kids on mountain bikes who would otherwise not have the opportunity to ride bikes or even experience the outdoors.

Submission Details:

Length: Under 2 minutes.
Content Type: Video must include at least 75% helmetcam footage.
Sports: Any action sport, although we have a slight bias towards bikes.
Deadline: Tuesday, May 24th at Midnight PST.

How to Submit:
Go to Pinkbike Video area and upload your video to the Headcam area using "Trips for Kids" in the title to be eligible to win.

Yeah i guess that part is kind of counter intuitive. I mean, if you are already shooting contest winning footage with your helmet cam, then why would you need another one?

they sell cases now that you have two gopros together and it makes it 3D.
So if you win you only have to buy another case for both your gopros and you will have a really heavy 3D helmet camera

What does 75% helmetcam footage mean?? Does this mean I have to film at least 90 sec with a helmetcam CAMERA and 30 sec with a dslr?.....
or does this mean I have to wear the helmetcam ONLY ON MY HELMET for 90 seconds?

it just means that 75% of the vid needs to be shot with the helmet cam. I think that means on or off the helmet. If I were u, i'd just do all of the off-helmet shots w/ the helmet cam anyway.

As DJ Jazzwax, I am stoked to be playing at such a cool event and will be jammin the tunes and cannot wait to see all these cool entries so far on a huge screen. Gotta say, the club 319 is very cool, the screen is huge with great sound and it's downtown vancouver. Just post your stuff because if it's good someone will be watching it! Thanks Trips for Kids people, you're amazing!

Just strap your point and shoot to your chest, turn it on film mode and make history, then win yourself a GoPro and do it right. It says helmet cam footage, but does not specify it has to be a GoPro.

Can it be filmed with a helmet cam not mounted to the helmet ie. Other angles on bike, 3rd person shots. Or does the camera have to be mounted to your helmet for 75% of the movie?
