Wilmington, New York & Whiteface Mountain will once again host the most talented downhill mountain bikers in North America!

The Whiteface Mountain Bike Park operated by High Peaks Cyclery and Ontario's Tuf Rack have partnered to bring you the First Ever US/Canadian Open at Whiteface on September 7 thu September 9, 2012. This epic downhill race will offer a whopping $10,000.00 cash purse for both pros and amateurs!

Other Event Highlights Include: Open practice starting early on Friday at 9:00 am, a Dual Slalom race on Saturday as well as the Downhill Pro Seeding Run. The "big course" will be used for Sundays big downhill race, starting from the top of the gondola and finishing right near the base lodge for a total vertical descent of 2,426 feet! Pro winning times are expected to be in the 8 minute range for only the very fastest of the fast! The Downhill course will offer both high speed sections and plenty of classic Whiteface Mountain single-track.

The US.Canadian Open offers many chances to leave with more than just a huge smile on your face. Pros will be winning a total of $5,000.00 cash plus medals!. Hold on as this is where the madness begins with the remaining $5,000.00 cash being split up between all amateur categories and age-brackets. Yep, the amateurs that make the podium will receive prizes, medals and cash! Radical!

With $10,000.00 cash up for grabs race organizers have placed a field limit of 500 racers for the main downhill race and 100 racers for the dual slalom race.  $5000 is probably for Cat 1 Amateur, so sandbagger alert? More like opportunity to see some absolute shredders who haven't been sponsored yet.

 It's $5000 split among all amateur categories. Winning a Category 1 Amateur only gets you $200.

 How is the DS course looking this year? They had one at a GE race a few years back and it was pretty pathetic. Kinda comical given the size of the DH track.
