The second stop of the Pro GRT took place this weekend at Mountain Creek Bike Park in Vernon, NJ.
As the host of the US Open for nine consecutive years, Mountain Creek is no stranger to hosting high level competition and decided to step things up a notch for 2012 with a brand new course. It is the longest and fastest track they have run on the mountain with enough variety in terrain to challenge every competitor. Taped wide in spots and utilizing some fast open slope sections, more than a few racers were reminiscing about the "good old days" at Mount Snow.
Top level riders from all over the country were in attendance including US National Champ, Logan Binggeli and his KHS teammates as well the the Trek World Racing threesome made up of defending World Cup Champ Aaron Gwin, Justin Leov, and Neko Mulally. Sadly Neko sprained his ankle in practice on Saturday and sat out the race so he can heal up for the upcoming World Cups in a few weeks.
The sun was out all weekend long and when the dust settled it was Aaron Gwin taking the top spot for the Pro Men and Lauren Daney took win home for the Pro Women. Luca Shaw came out on top in the always competitive Junior Men's race.
