BMX racing is one of the sports that helped build Vans into a household name in the late 70’s and throughout the 80’s. With the natural progression of BMX racing and now downhill mountain bike racing requiring specific footwear, it became apparent not everyone can pull holeshots or win a downhill race on a pair of skate shoes anymore. We decided to design a shoe that would meet the demands for BMX racing and mountain biking, not only in function, but with style as well. You don’t have to look like you’re wearing slippers from the future or tap dance shoes anymore in order to get the performance that these sports demand. We’ve gathered the best riders in each discipline to help us develop and test our shoes to make sure they not only perform for the top of the podium, but also look stylish while getting you there.

Warner
The Warner is the first choice in style, comfort, and performance for SPD compatible shoes for today’s BMX racers and mountain bikers alike. The Warner utilizes our lightweight gum rubber “Off the Wall” tread pattern molded to our performance driven SPD compatible outsole. We’ve internally relieved material from key points on the SPD compatible plate to keep it light yet stiff over the mid foot area while providing flex in other key areas. The upper infuses a blend of weather resistant synthetic leathers and vented ballistic nylon mesh with a removable hook and loop adjustable tension strap. Our self centering gored tongue keeps debris out of the shoe while the molded EVA foam sock liner ensures that your feet stay comfortable and supported all day.

Pretty cool
good idea, i bet most people have the idea but dont want to take the time to design them. Way to go Vans! props to you.
I don't know why they ever stopped making clipless shoes. they used to make these a couple years back and then stopped I don't know why tho
I meant if you werent going to use the SPD feature and wanted to use them with the covering and ride them on flats.
That was my point, idiot. I said that if people werent going to use the SPD feature but use them for flats because they liked the soles, then just buy regular ones.

well the design of the shoes looks a little sketchy the way the bottom rubber just comes off like that and if you werent using clip ons and just riding with the shoe i would think it would fall off.. they are like plat form shoes and they throw off your stamina on your pedals and they just look weried...

Why does almost every single pair of spd's on the market have to look completely alien and different to normal shoes?! ok yes the shoes must be more durable and able to put up with different stresses but by god are they ugly! these shoes would look like something from a bargain basement if not for the white vans stripe and writing. There's definitely a gap in the market for a pair of decent looking spd shoes that aren't 661's.
ok realisticly speaking these shoes look exactly like any other pair of skate shoes so if u think they look completely alien then thats your opinion but in all actuality they are the same (style wise) think about it. I see shoes like this at any store in my mall (style wise). actualy take the time to compare the shoe (or product) to others of its kind before bothering to diss them.

Yes they are and for those that can remember for enough back, Vans used to make this style of shoe years ago and Palmer killed it on them
You kids need to settle and recognize and have a little respect for history. VANS are a sick ass company and have done alot for cycling in general. VANS have been used as a cycling shoe for many many years. It doesn't matter if they can be worn for Skating, Cycling, or whatever. That isn't a reason to boycott.
Vans had an SPD shoe out years ago called the Excerbate2 which to be honest looked much better than this shoe.
Nothing new here at all really!

i've used vans since day 1 racing riding bmx but I'm not sure about these...I did see the 5.10 09 freerider shoe that actually looked more like true Vans than these do. Can't clip in 'em but don't want to anyway.
I dont know... I mean, maybe its just over here on the west coast, but VANS are effing HUGE. Everyone has them. And lots of people ride them, including myself. So i think its fairly legit that they are making a shoe so i can clip in. And as for the "VERY thick bottom..." - Did you look at them? maybe you did. look at them again, then look at a pair of vans. they look quite similar, no? I give props to VANS ofr making a shoe that looks semi-nice, and something that's rider specific.
everyone has them everywhere because they have been in the game since day 1. they make legit shoes that last and look the part as well, these are no exception

style and personal preference aside... I think we need to take note and appreciate that the press release specifically recognizes "downhill mountain bike racing"... a positive step forward for our sport

I agree with Jazzy, I know its a very limited market product, but who buys shoes online without trying them on first? Sorry, but I won't be able to justify buying these shoes even though I ride clipless for DH and desperately need a pair to replce my discontinued oakleys, its too bad cause they look like a shoe I would try on and buy at my LBC for sure, hopefully they catch on.
I have a pair, I have not used them yet but they seem pretty well made. I got them free with my subscription to Decline!
very nice, why a "limited" run of this shoe, they used to make a downhill kinda shoe am i wrong? Cool shoe but I'll stick with my rowley's for nowley's.
If i'm gonna ride SPD's i'm gonna use regular SPD shoes! I want straps, clamps, velcro, rock hard plastic... Whatever it takes to keep my foot one with the pedal! It's stupid to have a skate shoe with cleat mounts unless you want to hide it for some reason. The extra flex and weight totally defeats the purpose of even being clipped in the first place.

I think shoe makers should produce SPD shoes with better designs. You either have the narrow XC racer style shoes or wide heavy Skate style shoes. The later are butt fugly most of the time and heavier than a brick. I like my 5.10's, but that company is even designing skater style shoes as well. Why does all the casual styled SPD's have to resemble skate shoes?
these are actually really sick. im just not into clipless. id rather just get a regualar pair of vans.
I have a pair and they are so nice, but HEAVY. They are super stiff too. I got a set for FREE when I renewed my subscription to DECLINE.
Obviously you haven't looked at their new line. They still have the impacts, but there are a few new models as well.

My friend got his pair recently and after riding in them all day yesterday, he good things to say. I used my DX's for the first time yesterday as well, and thought they worked great. I think the tongue/lace protection on the Shimano's is tops, especially during sloppy springtime riding.
well.. thay are probably the ugliest pair of shoes I've seen
but I guess they do the job and give a little style points aswell. not my choice of shoe, but an all around not bad idea
kinda noobish but anyone know what those plug things are on the bottom? where you take part of the sole off?
hey guys i work for VANS and a customer came in a few weeks ago and returned them. They weren't my size and i really don't ride clip-less, but i had to try them on. They are surprisingly stiff and not as ugly as you would suspect. As for those not wanting to buy shoes w/o trying them, as long as you living near a VANS Store, it will be no big deal returning them..Lastly, if any of you guys are in the Pasadena, CA area, stop by and say whats up
