Everybody casts shadows, it’s an easy way to know we exist on this very large, heavily populated planet. Light creates shadows when it is blocked or unable to bend around certain objects, pretty obvious. But, I’m not here to discuss shadows in the literal sense or even discuss light. I’m here to talk about those proverbial shadows, certain shadows cast by the spotlight, the fame, the hype, or the glory. The shadows that certain athletes find themselves trapped behind, the larger shadow cast by a teammate, an organization, or a brand. Quick, off the top of your head name a slopestyle rider. Most of you guys likely named Brandon Semenuk, Sam Pilgrim, Cam McCaul, etc. All of whom have earned their respect via contest, video segment, and flat out hard work. These riders also cast large shadows, making it hard for an up and comer to get noticed.
Brayden Barrett-Hay is one of these riders, sitting in the shadows of the Semenuk’s, Pilgrim’s, and McCaul’s. Sure, hucking a 720 off a drop will get you some attention but it will definitely not put you in that spotlight. Looking to emerge Brayden has been putting in serious time on his bike this winter. He’s been dialing in old tricks, changing habits, learning new tricks and in his words “laying it all out there.” With lots of variations, a big bag of tricks, and ten days of shooting, Brayden and I had no problem getting the footage we needed to create this banger video. Thanks to everyone who made this possible; Scott Bentley and Mark Summers of Joyride150, Drew Bezanson, Mike Schwartz at Morpheus, and Eric Davies at Deity.
Saweet riding Brayden! 2:48 - 3:08 made me want to leave work and ride!
Guess I kinda missed that boat.
Hm.....maybe mine next life.
