Its very cool to see how freeriding has branched off and created different disciplines. Park riding, big mountain, slopestyle comps... so tight. Its going to be interesting to see the progression next year when the accessibility to airbags becomes easier for more riders.
That was a sick video. Semenuk has that d-7 on lock!
Is it just my old eyes or is Semenuk's dumped 720 far more inverted than Granieri's recent 'flip' double-whip?
Now, many years ago in moguls the skiier was to remain "upright" and therefore the head was not supposed to go lower than the waist, hence Jonny Moseley's 'Dinner Roll'.
I would say a 1998 olympic moguls judge would have disqualified Semunuk's D720 and allowed Granieri's flip 720.
Surely if your head doesn't go below your waist it isn't a 'flip'. Surely a flip would be defined as a rotation through the Z-axis? Granieri's was a rotation through the y-axis, better known as a 360.
I remember when Dave Mirra did it like seven years ago in the Xgames on a bmx for (what I believe) was the first time. Not sure if that was the first time in competition, or first time ever. But it was off a box like seven feet taller than a six foot qp if my memory serves me right. Which it probably doesn't. It was sick! And it still is sick seeing it now, along with the front flips off too! two wheeled sports in general have come such a long way.
