Video: Danny Hart at Fort William

Jun 30, 2013
by Scott Secco

Fort William, Scotland. In the world of international DH racing, it's a special place. Even more so for Giant Factory Off-Road Teamrider Danny Hart. This is Danny's home race. Add the fact that it was also the 2013 World Cup opener, and Danny's first World Cup after an injury last summer, and the pressure was on. This film offers an unprecedented look at that pressure—and at the intense passion to win that's shared by Danny, his family, and his teammates during the 2013 World Cup opener.

Oh no, the pain, you really feel for Danny and his folks in these edits. The pressure must be terrible. Him willing himself on in the start gate was something you don't often get to see, pretty awesome. Good luck Danny, hopefully one will come soon!

He has nothing to prove, he's already won words and put down one of the best runs in the history of the sport. He's 21 years old, plenty of time to win it. So many mature athletes will tell you that you have so much emotion when you're young that you screw up, it's the veterans that learn to not put so much pressure on themselves. He's very young, he has nothing to worry about.

Just ask Peaty, took him till his mid 30s to win worlds. It won't take Danny that long to win Fort Bill.

Can't be as bad as the pain every time he tries to sit down with those massive bollox.

He's got it in him, easily, he just needs to thread everything together on the day, that day will come sooner or later! Just think back to Champery!

I just want to ride my bike too. It's all that really matters to me. This was an inspiring video. Just keep doing what you're doing Mr. Hart and that victory will be so sweet when it comes. Patience.

In all seriousness, his dad's a nutter. Fair play to the family though, must be one of the best lives to live.

Heck I'd be more than ok with my Dad showing that much interest into my riding. Props to his Dad for being there for him.

He has a lot of dedication and some pretty extreme qualities. Just look at the commitment and ease he shows at qualifying at the jump into the corner. As he gets older he will probably be close to unstoppable if he can carry the dedication over.

Everyone who is claiming that his Dad is something other than a great Race Dad did not come up racing. That man and family have sacrificed a lot for their rider, nursed him back after injuries, paid for everything as he developed, taken time to be at the races and countless hours to train and dig. Plus when he was young his parents and all the others parents would line the fence-line to yell at their kid to "PEDAL!" Props to that family for helping him make his dream come true. Great story and video. Hope he does well.

totally. it's difficult enough for me to get acknowledgement from my family that mtn biking is an actual sport or hobby, let alone have them show up to an event.

Got to be the best video of the year, So inspiring and his dad is right, not many fans could of expected Danny to win, he is young and still may have a little less experience than the other riders. However, the way Danny motivates himself and gets himself pumped up before his race run gives me the feeling that he will win more than one world cup this year. Danny is putting 110% effort and that is why he deserves the win!

The DH pressure cooker really is upto 11 these days
  • 5 0
what a pressure and tension ... I do not envy him
  • 1 0
I see too much pressure...at the top there's only room for one at a moment if you get desperate it usually will work backwards. He's got the skills has he showed at champery, and luck is really important factor at this too. There's a fine line between the right motivation and falling to the desperate side. There's where experience talks. He'll write even more capital letters in dh history, just wait and see

Dear teenagers/young men of the world: Until you reach the point where you can grow an actual FULL beard... SHAVE!!!!

That said, I'm glad to see him putting in the work and getting on it. He's young, he'll bounce back and he's certainly got the skill. I think it's really interesting to see him grow into a physically larger person as it has changed his riding style a bit. He used to be this young kid, a mini little rocket who looked like he was hanging onto the back of a bike that was too big for him and he had this really distinct cornering style of a guy who wasn't big/strong enough to really "muscle" the bike around, almost like he was riding a horse or a big MX bike. Now he's growing and I think he's gonna be a real interesting rider to watch ride cause I can see him finding a really fast hybrid of the two styles of riding and put in some good finishes. Seldom do you get to watch someone grow up in front of the camera lens like he has within this sport.

That exercise he's doing on the floor in the first few minutes - in a push up position doing cable flies with one arm- that is no joke.

OH so he said his bike setup allows him to NOT ride so loose?!?! well then f*ck his bike setup!!

What are the things on Marcello's nose? Mint thing?
  • 2 0
They hold your nose open so you can breathe better
  • 1 0
yes, they are meant to open the respiratory system completely , dunno it it's mint or something stronger.
  • 2 0
Nothing to do with mint or menthol or any of that. They physically hold the airways open more.

Did I hear Clay Porter's voice in there behind the camera?

Giant if your listening or reading this GLORY CARBON Done.
  • 1 1
As cool as it would be I don't think giant will have a carbon glory. Look at GT they went back to aluminum with their new frame. Plus you can get a Glory frame set for $1800 USD it's the ultimate privateers race bike, not to mention it leaves you some extra cash to put into wheels, fork, brakes etc.
  • 1 0
The GT WILL be Carbon before you know it... That's pretty much guaranteed.
  • 1 1
He needs a Trek Session in his life! Danny will win it all one day there's no doubt.
