Matt Moore shreds through the shrubs and into the thick eucalyptus forests of the California Coast. It's not everywhere that you have trails and waves in the same place.

2:09 I thought you were going to nose case it so bad
  • - 3
I think he may well have , they showed pretty much every entry and exit to every berm and jump except that one. Probably involved a kit and underwear change too !!
  • + 1
@2:09 it's a little step down out of a berm then into a bigger booter. He probably scrubbed it for some speed is my guess.
  • + 1
Your right. He was soaking up the lip. He actually overshot it a little bit.

Ooops my bad, the part i was refering to is at 1:39 -1:43. Should have rechecked the time

FYI to everyone...the place he is riding at is in town called Pacifica, a network of entirely legal dh trails....such a sick place, sick vid

Now to my opinion - if you don't live right there, then you are a Guest. Guests are incredibly important! You are welcome to ride with us, without us or whatever you want. However, it's our home trails. We don't want attention to our trails by anyone of authority because we ride there every day. You don't. Come ride and enjoy the trail, but leave the pictures and video of you getting rad to your home collection. Again, come ride! Just stop promoting something you didn't help build, maintain or otherwise contribute to. We saw these guys filming this and asked them in person to do the same. When you film and promote like this, you stop being a welcome Guest and you become a threat to what we love and ride every day. You will not be welcome back by some of us (there are varying opinions among us). Give respect, get respect. It's not hard. Surfing was ruined by localism against each other. Our main and common threat sits squarely with those that try to deny us trail access. If your actions can lead to us to being denied trail access then you cease being a Guest and you become a threat. Make sense? See you out there. MB

Secret trails?? Ha! Even when I was on BMX I was hearing about Pacifica! I have to give major props to the guys who keep up the trails here. They are super fun. But at the same time these guys gotta realize the building is taking place on OPEN SPACE, shared by bikers, hikers and ppl on horse back. When I go out to ride I want to meet new people, find new lines, talk gear, share stories and have fun RIDING, Not be told to not share my film on the web or bring new riders, like I have a few times here.
  • - 3
NOT open space and NOT completely legal. Hence the need for discretion. You can't meet new people, find new lines, talk gear and share stories and have FUN riding if the trails have been destroyed.

I never said anything about the actual dh trails that r dug into the mountain being legal. Just trying to point out that this is one of the most known areas to bikers in this area of CA, years before I bought my first freeride bike ppl were talking about Pacifica. So I'd be damned if anyone was going to try to tell me to be all hush hush about it. When I was the main builder at a dirt jump spot near Sac it got to the point where riders were coming from over a hundred miles to ride there and we openly welcomed all. bu open space I mean land that is a designated state park.
  • - 3
But you do understand that illegal/unsanctioned trails need to be kept under wraps as much as possible, for fear of losing them? That's great that you welcomed people to your Sac jumps. That spot is not this spot. Because someone told you about something is not a license to broadcast it to the MTB community at large, especially if the builders have asked you not to. It's a sign of respect and common courtesy. Don't think I've seen you out there with a shovel in your hand.
  • + 3
Your logic about keeping trails underwraps is legit when there is a legit threat to them. It's the unfortunate risk when you are not on your exclusive private property. Plus the living with fear thing just brings negativity and that's no fun. Now I don't want to get all argumentive, but me being a private property rights advocate, I would gladly obey any wishes on some ones private property. I'm just trying to point out that someone telling you what to do "for the greater good" on state property or property that isnt exclusively theirs could also be interpreted as a sign of disrespect. I don't fall for that collectivist bs. But don't worry, I don't plan on raising the antenna for broadcasting anytime soon, because the vast majority of Bay Area riders know about this place anywaysSmile . Shred on!

Ive only been there 3 or 4 times and live pretty far away but shit I would be so down to get together and do some digging or haul in a load of wood w my truck for whatever. Just gotta wait for the broken kneecap to heal up for third time. Msg me, we will make a day of it

How about some facts? I've done some research of the boundaries and who owns what. Of the 3 trails, two of which are in this video, each of them resides on property owned by 3 different people/organizations. One is on State Park land - riding it is illegal, period. I've had multiple run-ins with rangers most recently in 2011. They've since cooled (because they don't have money to patrol right now) but they are out there occassionally. Another one is on Caltrans land - it is neither legal nor illegal - it's not a problem until someone with authortity decides to make it a problem. The third trail, the one most shown in the video above is on private land with usage by permission only - that permission can be taken away at any moment. We are under direction that we are not to build additional trails but allowed to enhance existing trails. We have not honored that agreement and have put ourselves and these trails at risk. The first two trails that I mentioned here have been visible by air since the 1950's. I have actual arial photography showing them both. I doubt anyone on this forum built them - anyone here at least 70 years old? They were hiking trails when there was no Devil's Slide when people were making the then treacherous drive over the San Pedro Mtns.

I've been riding in Pacifica for years, the trails here are some of the best I've ever ridden. Being a local, I know how important trail secrecy is but I'm surprised it's taken this long for this place to reach the front page.
  • + 3
why secrecy? aren't these legal trails anyway?
  • + 1
they are, but they get easily crowded and can lead to some unfortunate accidents. also, some people think they are trail gods and try to add or change features and end up messing it up.
