I third that Stevie win on Canada Day. That would really be nice. Man he was just .5sec's behind Gwin. I would not rule out Hill though, it's his type of course. It's gonna be a great race to watch. Can't wait.
Haha Canada Day, it just reminds me of south park, "those silly canadians". It would be great for Stevie to win just Canada day sounds funny. Not too much offence intended people of Canadian heritage, just accept the joke and fire one back. Go HILL
He had a mechanical and big crash. At the time he was .4s up on Gwin. Hes coming, Whether it is here (he had a visit to hospital) or elsewhere hes coming.
I am still pulling for Peaty so hard. This is his kind of track. I've heard a lot of people say you can't pedal a ton, and his sheer size would be an advantage. He's shown he can do amazingly well even now on this track.
Nice Cyrix, would be great to see Peaty make a bit of a comeback this round here. If his hamstring holds out and without too much peddling it may do. One can hope! good look to them all! personally hope Danny can put those sections together, he was fastest of all in sector 1 in qualy before the mechanical.
Anyone seen a video of the Qualy runs yet? link if possible please!
YEAH PEATY!!! He is still one of my favorite riders and has been a great role model since I started riding years ago. I was at Windham last year when he got second and I lost my voice yelling for him. He does well on this track (except at peaty's plunge I guess) but it would be great to see him come back a little bit. Show these young bucks who's boss lol!
I wonder if the real reason that the people who would like someone other than Aaron Gwin take the victory feel that way, is because then maybe other people will stop with the "Gwinning" posts?
A lot of people want to see Steve get a win for the first time. People also want to see Hill get a win again, as well as Gee. Both have had a lot of struggles. People of course are rooting for Peaty too, he's done great on this track and I mean, everyone loves the guy.
A lot of people just hate Gwin because of the country he's from though too, and have flat out stated so since last season. They were the majority voice for a little while but have faded away quite a bit. And of course many people get angry about the whole national pride issue, despite the fact others have shown national pride just as much if not more when a rider from their respective country has been dominating. It's strange though, the arguments weren't as absurd back before he started winning though. Let's face it, where he's from, that painted a big bullseye on his back the very second he won his first race.
It's a shame to see people wish harm upon him on race day. It's good though to see other people from other countries supporting him and telling the hateful people to shut it. That seems to be slowly becoming the norm again, you know, just people who love the sport rooting for all the top guys instead of letting rather shameful and moronic jingoism ruling the roost.
Would I like to see Gwin win Sunday? Of course. Would I be more excited if Peaty of Stevie won? You bet your ass. But then again a flag next to your name is just where you live, to me at least. That can change at any point in time. Who they are as riders and people, that won't change. And pretty much all of them are stand up people.
I think its a bit ridiculous to insinuate that people actually hate Gwin. I doubt anybody does. People were annoyed that an American was dominating the scene but that is fading and now people are just a bit bored of one guy winning constantly, but thats the extent of it, nobody actually has a vendetta against him.
I think he is really humble a seems like a good guy, but I'm still rooting for legend like Peaty to win because I'd love to see that.
I feel Gwin has changed the game though to be honest. DH always seemed like a sport where riders could go and party after their race, but now with Gwin taking such a professional attitude to racing its forcing everyone to take it much more seriously.
Gwin's wicked bottom line. No hate. Much respect. I'm super stoked to see this level of competition going on. We're witnessing the masters at work here. Gwin wins, Steve wins, Peaty, Gee, Hill? Whatever the case, it's good racing and good for the sport.
Absolutely, gwin is pushing the sport forward with development of technique, and tech I think. However it won't be long before people like Hart take that next step too. Danny was so close in Fort William, with a run with less visability just 0.8s off. Its really close. The sport is taking a step forward and its just incredible to watch I think. There are a lot of guys there capable of rising to the challenge that Gwin is laying down. Hes a real pro, just a pleasure to watch.
Not sure if you are old enough to remember Vouilloz. He won race after race, season after season. Was boring as f*ck. Races are much more exciting when there are a few guys who could all win it. No doubt we'll see some more 'gwinning' (actually the reason I don't want him to win is because that phrase is so cringe worthy) but its getting pretty boring now. Yeah, he's good, well done to him. Doesn't make me want to watch the race though
SmacK, it's not ridiculous to insinuate people hate him, especially when they flat out say it's because of where he's from. If you've followed the community reaction as closely as I have over the last two seasons, you'd have witnessed people spewing forth pure hate for no reason. People certainly did, and do still have, a vendetta against him based on nationality alone. Now however, it's not as prominent.
I'm glad it's died down though. It showed me a side of this community I knew existed, but I never knew could rear it's ugly head in such an awful way. I, personally, have never cared what country any top rider is from. But it has been abundantly clear, there are people who do.
Kudos to the staff who have helped quell the ridiculous actions of some people. If you can't look at the riders as individuals and only see a flag and some obscene generalizations then you don't love the sport.
My opinion on Gwin is that you cannot hate on the man because he is too damn fast, even if you would like to see another rider win. It’s good that he is pushing the sport and making the other boys ride faster. However after attending the race in NY last year, I think some of the hard feelings might come from over-the-top annoying patriotism from ignorant Americans. Its cool to root for certain riders and even have some pride in your country, but there is simply no room for putting down other cultures or using Gwin as a statement that America is superior to other nations. As an American it was embarrassing to see how some of the fans were disrespectful to a lot of the riders. I can understand how some people might displace their anger onto Gwin. But he is so modest and calm, there is no need for hatred. When I watch the WC it is too appreciate great riding, no matter where the individuals are from.
I pretty much agree with everything cyrix said. One of my favorite things about watching the DH World Cups is that there are so many riders i'd love to see win. Be it Gwin, Smith, Hill, Fairclough, Neethling, Peaty, whoever, there's not a single racer out there that i'd be bummed out to see win. Unlike most sports fans, we have no "villains". Anyway, the whole point of my first post was really about poking fun at how played out the whole Gwinning, Gwinner, Gwin-dham etc. comment nonsense has gotten.
I think that a key reason that people show a dislike to Gwin, is because he is dominating, it's the same in every sport, I see Gwin as the Usain Bolt of DH. Came from no where and is now completely thrashing everyone, but I am getting bored of Bolt's winning streak, same goes for Gwin, I have masses of respect for him, I would just like someone else to win. I am always rooting for Danny Hart, not because of my nationality, but because he's a nice guy, and I enjoy watching him ride, as with CG, he's so entertaining, and it's a shame he's badly hurt.
"SmacK, it's not ridiculous to insinuate people hate him, especially when they flat out say it's because of where he's from. If you've followed the community reaction as closely as I have over the last two seasons, you'd have witnessed people spewing forth pure hate for no reason."
And I say:
If you have been following "community reaction" for the past 2 years you have seen the sick jingoism of the Frat Boy Flat Bill America crew. I guess slipping roofies to frat hags and sorority girls isn't fun enough for them, they have to spend time on the Toobz braying like eedjit donkeys about how Uh Mare Ick Us is great since Gwin is winning and is from the USA.
Gwin's abilities are not due to him being an American. He could easily have been from France, or Belgium, or Trinidad/Tobago.
And Gwin's winning ways do not "prove" that some anonymous American e-rider on PB or any other forum is "greater" than anyone else by virtue of same citizenship as Gwin.
It's been pretty obnoxious. So I can understand the reverse-hate. It's not like the USA is a friendly force on the planet.
I agree, Gwin's ability has nothing to do with his nationality, simply the terrain in which he grew up, Danny Hart, grey up around the Pennines, the pathetic mountain range in the UK, yet he made the most of the local trails and look at where it's gotten him.
FOxtrot, you are right, but honestly after hundreds of rants in that subject, I just couldn't give less sht. It is not ok to blame the whole country for opinions of their idiot population. I can rant for years on how much I would like to see a massive diarrhea among those who went out to party on streets after the assasination of Bin Laden. But this country has also spawned many intelectualists that I admire above most Euros. Each country has problem with idiot citizens (save Netherlands off course! They are the smartest!) . And as Cyrix said very well: it's just a fkn flag.
And all of that is a huge disrespect to that obviously great guy that Aaron Gwin is. He hasn't earned such crap in any way, both from the side of morons thinking the're patriotic and people btchn on Hummericah.
Yeah for sure, respect for Gwin, he doesn't deserve to have his name used as some cheap ploy of a flatbiller's insane national pride, and doesn't deserve to be the target of someone's ire when they're rightly tweaked by the way Uncle Sam swaggers around the planet dealing death and destruction to innocent people.
Drop it man it's pointless, we're all guilty. When it was Clintons turn to kick Saddam's ass, the Polish people and politicians were openly talking that US promised us a deal that if we send troops, we can capitalize on Iraq. I still remember it and I'm sure there were many other countries thinking the same. They are people just like us, they just have different circumstances under which they behave differently.
Don't think that you are any better. Because of what? Because we sort garbage more?
One of the biggest delusions that has been set upon this world (by allies) after WWII was that Nazis were deviated people, they were monsters. Yes the mastermomds and executors, but who was running the thing? Who were those soldiers, workers, people om parades? People like me and you, this can happen any time. It's probably even more likely these days in smartphone /dumb head civilization, just a matter of certain circumstances.
A couple things: I always enjoy your thoughtful comments WAKI, and the Milgram experiment is proof of your point(s). CFOxtrot, to reiterate what WAKI said, you're words are those of a hypocrite as you denounce intense nationalism only to take a jab at another nation unfairly basing your comments on small minority of the population. Anyone who trashes another nation is calling the proverbial tea kettle black. As strange as it sounds, and to illustrate how much of a sucker I am for effective marketing, I usually feel the most affinity for the riders winning on a bike or brand of bike that I own/have owned; it makes me special inside
You don't know the first thing about the Milgram Experiment, nor about hypocrisy. What is hypocritical about my post? What reference to the Milgram Experiment applies here?
You're out of your cementheaded MormonEedjit skull, pal. Why don't you go post some videos of 2-foot "hucks" on the Turner forum on MTBR?
WAKI is trying to stir up discussion on a different tangent. I am no more to blame for what Obama, Dubya Bush, Cheney, or anyone else does than a person in Mozambique is responsible for it. I don't support them, didn't vote for them, and I live below the tax floor so I don't finance them. WAKI can't prove an average Joe Sixpack in America is equally culpable. It's just WAKI's way to start discussion.
At least WAKI's funny, and not a Mormon Misogynist who can't ride a bike.
Yes, it's quite obvious that a person's posts on the internet define him/her. Yes. So you're a mad-hucking crazy Mormon who thinks women are 2d class citizens and who thinks calling your riding mates "Team Dirty Sanchez" is not only funny, but bad-azz. And you imagine 2-foot drops to flat are proof of big skills.
That's going on taking your Internet Personage seriously. Not on your real skills or your real personality.
How ironic is that?
Remind me when you met me, or met someone who knows me well. Please.
And try to get the point next time, instead of watching it go flying over your Internet Personality's head.
@cyrix I like what your saying, and I totally see what you mean about national pride etc. but I'd like to see a tight race series, and as such would prefer if Greg, Sam, Stevie, Steve, Danny or Gee win. I want good racing and good riding and want to see it go down to the wire!
Gwin still races local Fontana races every winter, including Super D. Gee did one DH at Fontana, but even though he lives here every winter, hasn't ever done another. Doesn't want to get hurt (Danny MacCaskill broke his collar bone in the same Fontana race Gee won). That's one of the reasons I like Gwin. He's very approachable, down to earth, humble. He is a bit like Kelly Slater. Kelly sees waves differently than anyone else - leading to 11 World Titles, and a possible claim as the world's best competitive athlete. Gwin sees the track differently than anyone else, Hill did that in '07, '08, and Nico before him. Let's see where it goes.
I'm not bored of Gwin winning. It's making the port and the athletes more professional which means bigger sponsors and the wheels of the industry turning that bit faster. If you think Gwins dominating, no disrespect but the king of domination is Nico Vouilloz. 10x World Champion (once as a junior). Nobody will ever beat that, or will they?
So if hypothetically I didn't know the history of DH racing's ultimate champion, Vouilloz, would I be doomed to repeat his career Sounds like ignorance is bliss to me!
The whole thing is very strange to me, as soon as people treat some sport as a epic fight between people, things get fkd up. I see no difference between such fascination about a certain rider and wetting the underpants for music or movie idol. People talking of personalities, likes and beliefs of DH riders, C'm on... I hate those intros on redbull TV reminding me of presentation of characters in Mortal Kombat.
Yea it's a part of the show who wins, it generates excitement, but I watch DH racing for those insane shows of skills "did you see that?!", because this is a sport, and sport is about recreation, maybe I'll watch up something and try it tomorrow on the trail.
Danny Hart with Fastest top split, and then a problem? One to watch. But lets be honest if Gwin won without a chain the outcome of sunday is kind of predictable
k big man judging by your previous posts I can tell you are an argumental little cum stain who just loves to troll.
But my point was that if it is a certain rock that is causing the problem ( as often is the case ) why not remove/alter it ? I would rather see people racing than pushing.
Well I guess the riders could alter the line, and suspect the offending rock must be in the fastest line. So maybe just a risk they either take, or not? kinda how Harts mechanic put it when asked about the puncture on Danny's bike ''hell have to take another line'' or words to the effect.
There is some really nasty sticking out/over hanging rocks you can see on the track walk.
bigburd, you were absent the day they handed out thinking skills, weren't you? "Argumental" ? "Cum stain" ?
Yeah, we're all 12 year old boys in gym class bragging about the girl we fingered in our dreams, and that's the level our discussion should hold. Right?
Checkers or wreckers...and since he had wreckers today, he's got that out of the way ahead of finals. I see him as one of the few who could end Gwin's streak.
