Woodland Riders Racing Winter Series

Nov 13, 2013
by Brett Nicolle
Clocks have changed, evenings are dark and the weather is getting wet n'wild, but on the bright side, Woodland Riders Racing Winter Race is on again! Hosted by Gawton Gravity Hub at their Tavi Woodlands site near Tavistock, Devon, this four race series will take place on tight, technical tracks on the steep sides of the Tamar Valley on the 8th December 2013, 23rd February, 24rd March and 20th April 2014.

The series has gained a reputation for well organised, chilled out racing. An easy push up means plenty of runs, but also a cheap race entry, this year only £23.50 each race and all races carry British Cycling points.

This years series will see the use of new track sections yet again, including a complete new lower section for Avalanche, to make it a bit more interesting for all of you committed racers.

All categories will be run throughout the series, including an under 14 Females Category, to encourage the girls to get involved and show the lads how its done!

Come down and practice on the Saturday for £5 or take advantage of the FlyUp Downhill uplift service at our tracks at Gawton before racing at Tavi Woodlands on Sunday.

The format for race-day on Sunday 8th December is as follows:

0800-0915 Course is opened for inspection on foot
0830-1015 Sign-on is opened
0930-1145 Course is opened for practice
1230 First race runs will start. The second race runs will start 15mins after the last rider of the first race run has completed his/her run.

All entries will be handled online via the British Cycling website. Online entry will close the Friday before the race weekend at 2000.

The Woodland Riders Racing is run on a Not-For-Profit, voluntary basis by Chaz Lamley, with all money going back into the racing and tracks! The Gawton Gravity Hub has just secured an extension to their site, so dig days will be taking place over the winter to extend the tracks, so come and get involved!

For full details of dates, race entry and rules at woodlandriders-racing.co.uk. To find out more about Gawton Gravity Hub go to gawtongravityhub.co.uk

We would like to thank all of the racers, spectators, marshals, St John Ambulance services, RJ Catering, Eagle Plant, Supersaturated, Koo-Bikes, Silverfish UK, PRG MTB and Dartmoor Cycles for their support at our past events.

Wanting to enter this but never raced before. What racing licence etc do I need? Do I need to register as a member or just turn up and pay on the day? Not racing for points. Just getting some experience in racing dh.
Cheers Tom
