When is comes to clipless shoes and pedals, the first name that always comes to mind is Shimano for me and for good reasons too. Shimano was the first clipless pedal I ever saw in the early 90's and I owned some of their shoes in the late 90's. With 20 years of shoe making under their soles, Shimano brought forth the Custom Fit SPD Program a little over a year ago. For 2009, they have 8 models and I'll be rocking the M230s.

Check out the process I got to go through to have my Shimano M230 shoes Custom Fit at Dizzy Cycles.

Nov 26, 2008 - by Jordan Holmes
As some of you may know over the past season I have been riding, writing, and learning about the Commencal Max Max. The Max Max originally started off as a basic $600 hardtail. Fully rigid, dual v-brakes, and flimsy wheels is what we started with. Over the past season I have slowly been adding parts, removing parts, and now here is the end result of my own comfortable, clean, fun street bike.

Steve Smith On Evil Bikes

Steve Smith On Evil Bikes
Nov 25, 2008 - by Jordan Holmes
Source: Evil Bikes and words by Thomas Vanderham

On behalf of Evil Bikes I am stoked to announce the signing of World Cup downhill racer Steve Smith. I first started hearing Steve’s name about 4 or 5 years ago when I was still racing BC and Canada Cups. It was always murmured along with phrases like “the next big Canadian racer” and “has the potential to do well at a world cup level”. This year Steve took big steps to reaching that potential with a break out season, which saw him claim the US Open title, post a 10th place finish at the Andorra world cup, and debut in the film Seasons. As a fellow rider I am excited to have Stevie as a teammate, we have always had a great time hanging together and I like the confident approach he brings to his riding. The generally soft spoken 18 year old usually lets his riding do the talking but I forced him to sit down and answer some questions so that all of you could get to know him better.

The fourth and final day in California took us on a wild ride. Instead of going out and hitting the Skate Park or riding dirt jumps, we went surfing! Isaac brought out a couple of his surfboards to let us give it a go. What I didn’t know was that Isaac is a pro surfer! How awesome is that, the first time we were learning to surf was being taught by a pro.

I grabbed the board and headed out first.

It has been a great trip so far and today wouldn’t have been a better riding day. The sun was shining and the bikes were rolling. Since yesterday we rode Skate Park, today we really wanted to ride some dirt. We headed over to National City to ride a local spot. The jumps were really cool, but they were really complicated. They went like long gap to short gap to shorter gap and just messed you up. They were really tiring as well. I took a break for 5 minutes and then grabbed my bike and both tires blew up, I was like WHAT THE &#$%! Not again! We were about to head to a bike shop to get them fixed when Chris saved me…again! He pulled out two tubes from his truck and once again, Chris thanks a lot man!

Warning to all FOX Racing Shox Users and Customers

Warning to all FOX Racing Shox Users and Customers
Nov 20, 2008 - by Tyler Maine
Source: Fox Racing Shox

It has come to the attention of FOX Racing Shox that certain individuals and / or entities are modifying FOX forks to accommodate mountain bike wheel sizes other than those having 26 inch nominal diameter. One such modification includes removing material from the lower leg cross bridge in order to fit a 29 inch tire in the fork. Such modification will ultimately separate the lower fork legs at the cross bridge (i.e. the weakened cross bridge will fracture) and may cause bicycle instability and crash that result in SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

Being stuck in an office with two guys staring at computers for 12 hours a day for 4 months can really start to wear on you. Jamie Houssian and Darren McCullough had certainly not been ideal co-workers. When I first talked to Donny about running his premiere tour for The Collective’s new film “Seasons”, I thought to myself, this is going to be great - working with a couple of bros, going for coffee and lunch, beers after work - I was stoked. Man was I wrong. Maybe I didn’t realize what goes into editing a mountain bike film, but I ended up working with the likes of a couple of suits downtown trying to “make it”. Crazy hours, limited convo, heated film debates, and a general lack of mountain cycling.

Stuff Mike Rides will show up every now and then, whenever I get around to writing it. All of the stuff that I don't feel like writing a 9000 word review on will be in one of these. More than anything though 'Stuff Mike Rides' will be about how things held up over the long haul.

Volume #7 of S.M.R. has got the goods you are interested in, which is coincidentally the same goods that I've been abusing for the last year: a DMC Moto Timer which is the poor mans way of seeing how slow you actually are, some ragged Five Ten high top shoes, and KMC's jewelry-like gold X9SL chain that Cori's Mom was kind enough to model for me!

My First Visit to Transition Bicycle Co

This past weekend I lost my virginity and crossed the border. I never thought the United States would be so different than Canada.

I just got my L, so I wanted to drive across the border to see the crew at Transition Bikes. I totally had a brain fart and forgot that in the US you drive by miles per hour not kilometers per hour, so when we started to drive I was going about 80km and out of the corner of my eye I saw the speed limit sign and it read 50. Therefore I was like "Ah Crap! I don't want to get pulled over my first time in the states with my L". My Dad and Tyler just laughed at me. This would be one of the many things I learned on this trip.

After being inspired by a Lamborghini with a sharpie paint job I decided to take apart my BLK MRKT Riot and start to work. When I first started I didn't realize what I was getting myself into and wasn't sure what people would think of it.

After posting my first picture to Pinkbike and getting a bunch of positive feed back I kept at it and this is the final product.

Break dance, you can do it... Seems you kids are running the show these days. Throwing down some serious styles straight outta Channel 4's Skins. (Ask someone with spots)

Now firstly can I apologies for popping these up and not warning you to wear sunglasses. Secondly that this isn't a full-on review (see what I did there?). It's just a quick glimpse of whats coming, not that you won't see it coming. Cycle related injuries on the road/highway may soon be at an all time low.

The scythe is an enduring symbol of the harvest. It is also a symbol of death – the Grim Reaper of Christian lore and Kali, the Hindu Goddess of Death, carry Scythes. When it comes to a bike built for launching one’s self with abandonment and railing at eye-watering speeds, this is a bit unnerving. Fortunately, [L=http://www.bansheebikes.com]Banshee’s[/L] take on the Scythe is a lot more like the useful tool of yore – it is sharp, simple and durable. You can reap your just rewards.
