Think riding a 100-year old, disused railroad would be boring? No chance! Dan Milner joins Hans Rey and Tibor Simai for 2 days of hot, wild, high altitude railway challenges in Argentina. It's just a shame the buffet car wasn't working.
My first "real" MTB ride was along an abandoned RR line from Felton to Santa Cruz. After that I was hooked. Thanks for reminding me how I got into this sport.
Kind of.... though all of the first day was a constant uphill... at 3500m so was pretty tough in fact. Was a weirdly rewarding challenge all in all... Look out for part 2 across the mountains on 3 days of insane singletrack next month. That one is truly epic.
Probably something to do with my eyesight getting longer sighted, but despite the massive watch face size, some of the data shown is still so small I cant read it. Combine that with a confusing menu set up and an alarm that is so quiet you cant hear it (and no my hearing is still fine)... Like all altimeters that use atmospheric pressure (GPS watches are the only ones that dont, but they need charging every day.. so useless on epics like our Afghan trip), it gets pretty out of calibration quickly if you're using it anywhere that has quickly changing weather (like most of the UK).. need I go on. Am sure others have bonded with it, but I am struggling. Battery lasts about 10 months for me. I reckon you can get something just as good for half the price, or less.
Apparently people dont watch films if they are longer than about 5 mins nowadays, I'm told, which is why these are about 5 mins long, even if they are to capture 2 days of insane adventure, something to do with attention spans.... I blame the... oh what was itI was going to say...
