Today was all about set up, be it the hours it takes to assemble the trailer and get it ready for an event or just going over and prepping your bike for a weekend of All Mountain action! That was today's theme for sure. A race is a big event to pull off and the crew at
Breakaway Events seems to have all their ducks in a row for this weekend when 230 All Mountain racers converge on Mount Ashland and descend back to town in the Ashland 12 Mile Super D race.

We all got up at a proper hour and hit town for an organic breakfast to fuel the bodies for the day ahead. Thankfully they had bacon too, as I may not have made it through the day with out it! From breakfast it was up to the parking area at Mt.Ashland to help with trailer set up for tech support for the weekend's event. It may have been fairly nice in town, but it was chilly and the cloud banks with rain in them kept drifting through to keep us hydrated. The fog was nothing short of epic and I know a few photographers that would have loved to shoot in these conditions.
Since the fog wasn't going away, it was time to build the tech area for the weekend's event. I have never put up more than an easy up tent at an event before, so joining in on the
SRAM trailer set up was pretty intense. I am glad they know what they were doing as Myles and I would still be up there trying to figure it all out.
Once the shelter was completed it was time to get onto the most important things, like tuning and prepping bikes. Tyler's new
Turner 5 Spot arrived today, so he got on to that project, while Myles tweaked his ride and the rest of us cleaned and swapped parts around to best suit the local trails. I personally was on stoke after receiving a call from
Crankbrothers saying that they were going to be in attendance on Friday and that they had a surprise for me and the
Ibis Mojo. I'll be sure to keep ya'll in the loop on what it is - Yeah toys are sweet!
During the build ups, Greg Herbold and a few others in the crew arrived. Now it was time to pin these builds, tweaks and adjustments as there was 12 Miles of trails ahead of us that needed to be ridden. Myles wasn't able to keep waiting on us and our slow ways and hit the trails full solo, oddly I bet he did two laps in the time I did my one. With dinner time rolling in, it was time to suit up and hit the trail. Goggles and XC lids is kinda of a fashion faux pas, but in Ashland I think you need to rock goggles to keep the granular dirt out of your eyes.

Author dons goggles and an XC lid.
Riding at the end of the day is the greatest reward:
Back at the house, we all gathered and made dinner plans. On the way to dinner Willow challenged me and won the drag race and then called me a pussy. All I can say is that she better win on Sunday!
Tomorrow we'll be going over to the the Avid Chainless DH course and checking it out for Saturday's chainless race. Oh and hopefully teeing up a lap on the Super D too!
Happy Trails,
Ty
