Video: Battling the Elements in Iceland

Dec 10, 2014
by Red Bull Bike

Country: Iceland
Population: 325,671
Terrain: Plateaus consisting of sand, lava fields, mountains and glaciers
Anthem: Lofsöngur

Iceland is one of the most sparsely-populated countries in Europe and two thirds of that population are huddled in the south west within its capital city, Reykjavík. The surrounding terrain is mountainous and hostile; perfect Moment Pictures territory!

As always with our Into the Dirt series, however, it wasn't all plain sailing and the guys had to face down some serious adversity in order to claim their riding rewards.

Didn't think it's possible, but the red bull player gets even worse. Can't see any controls now and video started with almost half a minute delay. Shittiest player in the history! Sick video though.

I'm on Chromium (basically an opensource project Chrome stands upon) and it works wonders. Same with Opera. Perhaps it's something to do with Flash player?

I wanna see a full length MTB film shot in Iceland so badly... I went there a few years ago and was blown away by the terrain. Literally the entire island is made up of rugged freeride lines.

Can't wait to see what Aggy, Matty and Sherpas Cinema filmed in Iceland. Gotta be epic.

Videos of the biking in Iceland has definitely bumped it up on my list of places to visit. This one in particular : vimeo.com/98904694#t=253s

Great scenery, riding and shooting, but the music and sound design was way too much for me. I know it's Red Bull's MO, but I think I woulda liked it way better if it was a little more Iceland style and a little less "That's It That's All goes to Ibiza". Just my 2 cents.

 Exactly my sentiment.
Some music from Björk, Sólstafir or Papar would have been a better fit.

do any of you guys know what the first song is?

I used to live in Iceland for 2.5 years and revisit it every couple of years. There can be a great MTB film shot there. This falls short of potential

Iceland's weather is totally brutal and unforgiving. I went there on a 2 week backcountry skiing trip and got 2 half days in..... This crew, 2 week trip?, not a lot of shots, Halo (Kayaking flick) same deal. This crew might relate with the term we coined "Chhopeless" meaning cold, hungry, and hopeless. Iceland is absolutely stunning but will put you on your butt; it doesn't matter if you're a weekend worrier like myself or a professional film crew. Great flick though! almost made me want to go back then got terrible memories of the punishing weather.

Hmmm... all good stuff while they stayed on the tracks. But there is no entitlement to rip up fragile alpine mat plant communities which are there for everyone to appreciate. Nothing will get mountain bikes shut out of such places faster than this sort of behaviour... It wasn't put there for you to shred, guys.

Awesome!!! Hear the rocks in the movie - potential crash landing would sound a bit more like scratchy Wink These volcano rocks can be sharp like a razor... So if u decide to ride in Thorsmork, do as a friend says to me: Dont crash!

One of the sickest scenery I've ever ever seen ! so beautiful !

Not a huge fan of DH vids but that was Brilliant.. Really well put together.. Less "let's shred pish" and more "adventure"

I misread the title as Ireland. Only when I saw the Range Rover with the typcial fatty icelandic tires did it click. I figured I didn't know Ireland had such cool waterfalls.

Yeah Magne Kvam! Icebike Adventures is the sickest way to ride over there. You just gotta pull the trigger.

Lots of rain. in Ice land....................Riding was dope! Yeah reminds me of the North Shore all year round. You just wait for the clouds to part and ride.

Kyle J loves that shit though.

Fromme was nice today. Foggy, soggy, just how we like it in the pacific northwest.

Vancouver isn't PNW, it'd be PSW of Canada, and maybe Pac mid-West of North America. Cascadia is fair though.

So this somehow suddenly appeared on my todo list..
