Bearclaw Invitational - Postponed until 2016

Jul 17, 2015
by Pinkbike Staff
News has reached us via Darren Berrecloth's Instagram account that he has decided to postpone his much-respected and enjoyed Bearclaw Invitational event for 2015. Despite this setback, Darren says that he has plans to bring us something different in 2016 to the current events out there on the FMB Tour.

bigquotesMade the decision to postpone my event ... to next year. Bit of a struggle these days to get support. And with all the events nowadays it's time to switch it up a bit. - Darren Berrecloth

Needed a sponsorship and got a sponsor"skeet". After saying that the event was going to be a star, and scheduled for RB live.

Pulling out leads to unwanted pregnancies, RedBull should have paid more attention in Sex Ed.

Red Bull once didn't pull out... Kelly broke an arm....

This sucks, Claw puts back into the sport, he doesn't just take.
$12k bikes, postponed events and events that put riders in danger... 2015 feels like the year the sport has finally lost touch with its roots!

Totally agree, mountain biking is becoming a rich white man sport, just as road biking is. Sucks that good ol Specialized doesn't cough up the cash...oh wait...it's all invested in a wind tunnel and their roadie teams. Alright..hate away and let the negative hits come in..love it!

Have you checked out what you can get in an entry level road bike now? I'd argue it is significantly cheaper to get into than MTB right now. Way better bang for your buck when buying a new road bike than new MTB.
  • 17 12
Oh thank god! I'm a rich white guy. Seems mtb is the only place left for a white guy.
  • 4 0
@robwhynot I think that's has more to do with the fact that its inherently cheaper to make a well functioning road bike than a mtb, the increase in performance between a low end and high end road bike will always be lesser than that with mtbs

Mt. Washington needs to re-open the park and Darren needs to be running it. It just seems so obvious. There are riders who will support a decent bike park there. I think Darren could build and maintain something really special on that hill that would rival Whistler. The bean counters just need to step aside and allow it to happen.

If you read the instagram post, Darren says it will be at Coast Gravity Park next year.

I think its a great idea to get the venue "somewhere"..instead of random private property. Plus...a lot of comments are about funding the event, which is no small thing I'm sure...but I'll bet scheduling conflicts are at least equally to blame. The riders we wanna see can only do so much per year guys...

CGP sounds great. But FMB needs something big in the USA. Maybe he could oversee something like that.
  • 7 3
CGP is cool but youd get massive crowds if this was in Vancouver. Just sayjn
  • 4 0
He tried for Mt Seymour...zero cash after bad ski season though. I think CGP will be a great venue, it has a heart and soul for Mtn Biking. I brought Darren up to the park early this year and he was stoked on the location and the Coastal Crew are on board. Big things to come in 2016...

Damn, I always look forward to his events realness. Can only mean its going to be bigger and better (aka more fest like) next year.
  • 10 1
 well this is depressing

Agreed. I would trade Les 2 Alps for the Claw Invitational any day.
  • 11 0
red bulls pull out game is strong
  • 2 2
Les 2 Alps keeps things International. The Claw Invitational is too close to Whistler, event date and location wise. FMB needs a slope style diamond event in the States. Maybe the Claw should regroup south of the border. Would probably help him sponsor wise too.

I'd trade munich mash for Claw Invitational.

Mtb reached a peak, we created something similar to the housing bubble of 2008, thats why bikes are now insanely expensive, and theres an insane oversaturation of product in the market, this is a downhill ride alright

 Crowd source it!

I think it's a good move by Darren, many slope courses have gotten kinda bland over the years. The riding has progressed, sure, but the courses have sorta fallen into the same design formula. For example, Bud Light basically re-using the kokanee cabin for a period of a few years, and then making a whale tail feature that was basically just a larger version of the kokanee whale tail from like 2009.

Hope this bad news leads to better than ever news later. If anyone deserves support, it's Claw. And Duffy.

I would trade Rotorua for this any day
  • 13 4
Says the kid who has never been. There's a reason many of the slopestyle pros have said that Rotorua has been the best course they've ever ridden haha
  • 6 1
Rotorua looked like it was on point especially for the first year. If anything RedBull Skygate or one stop of the RedBull Cliff Diving World Series that I stumbled on the tv one night should be traded...yes you read that right cliff diving...televised. I couldn't believe it.
  • 5 0
rotorua was the best fmb course in years! if anything they should ditch the crappy slope events that arent even on a mountain
