@viatch: In my opinion he started being more approachable in from last season on, smiling and joking. And that way works, you can tell from the comments here on Pinkbike.
@kerberos: Before that he had a huge amount of pressure on him rocketing from his yeti days to the gwinning domination. He's probably more relaxed because he's settled down/ confident he can do what he needs to do without burning out
Because Gwin isn't a monkey doing stupid stuff begging for attention as some riders who don't have the same level of talent must to do to keep the interest of the sponsors.
He is solid and delivers what he is paid to do. This is it.
The next best thing after the race are these team vids. They show the behind the scenes that most people wont see....as for those haters....like fetty wap said......EVERYBODY HATING, WE JUST CALL THEM FANS THOUGH....and this maybe be true with gwin, but seeing him twice in the world cul circuit, he did take time to answer my questions. Can't blame the guy at times for not smiling of looking cool...maybe the pressure gets the best of him at times but his results shows his commitment.
I don't hate him. I have met him out on track. Pretty dull compared to others to be honest. Having met a few top riders, some are more fun than others... they are just people in the end of the day. It's great that there are loads of different personality types at the top. Would be boring if everyone was the same.
He is undoubtedly an amazing rider.
@metong: Maybe he's just naturally a bit introverted. Everyone is different and having 50 Ratboy copies would get a bit boring, except maybe for the post race party..
@Bearmann: we all here for the love of bikes, the heroes we have met and the riders we aspire to ....no more hate for any rider ..my wife and myself have met Arron Gwin 3 or 4 times and over the years has always been a gentleman and posed for photos for us and been gracious enough to talk to us at the races ..as well as all the other riders ..
@theredbaron: Cheers Baron! its nice to see him finally getting respected. had to be a mental drain on him to some extent knowing half the community was against him for being too much of a square.
I dont understand the criticism. The guy doesnt put on a show for the camera...so what. Seems like a solid fella to me. Id rather see guys like Gwin and Palmer who give it to you straight rather than three phonies wearing berets, running around trashed, screaming with a fat 'viking' cameraman.
@Bigwill13: i totally enjoy watching deakin and reynolds riding, but this isnt about ability on the bike...talking camera image. If that is enjoying the sport then i question how much you like riding your bike. Phonies might be harsh though.
so your comparing a team video to an edit made up by a group of the most hilarious british riders out there who weren't racing but were there to watch and have a good time.
yes to all of that! Meaning respect the phoney frenchie impersonators, they can ride, no doubting that, and respect the guy that doesn't feel he needs to do that on camera and post it on line, he can ride too. Its all entertainment / advertising / web presence at the end of the day and its all there to make us buy stuff we don't really need.
@WhiteWater503 So much hate, I feel sorry for you man if you can't enjoy both styles of video. Life would be super boring if everyone had the same personality. And ripping on the dudes weight? wtf
Sucks about Angel...healing vibes and hope it's nothing serious or long-term!!
Good to see Gwin is realistic about racing. What he lacks in charisma/style is easily made up for in sheer speed and professionalism. I'm old enough to remember the Vouilloz days and he took a lot of the same grief from fans that Gwin does these days.
In all honesty, there's not a single downhiller at any level that I don't like. Some more than others, yes...but each and every one of you out there has my total respect.
I like Gwinn. He seems like a solid guy. Pretty normal. People need to appreciate that athletes are also people who have personalities all across the spectrum.
Seems like a Great team! Gwin seems great for the sport of cycling not just for the American fans. As a father of 3 I hope my kids see how humble he is with as successful as he is. I enjoy all the racers but anything with Gwin there's really no need to pre watch for parent approval (vary young kids) I think that says alot about him and what he stands for.
The Syndicate video was amazing it showed you the people involved, who they are and the riders actual feelings. Massive respect for this one. 10/10. ,,,,....Ratty's line...I was committed to the line.
Yep, Syndicate best team videos...they keep it real and fun as mountain biking should be. Too many teams are so dead serious now that watching their videos are painfully dull. And damn Kathy looks like an amazing cook!
I guessed I missed the memo that I'm supposed to hate on Gwin for "being a sellout". Ridiculous. The guy seems just like a normal dude, working hard, making smart moves, etc. I'd rather have someone like him represent the sport over someone that looks like a bike shop burnout.
Can I just say that I absolutely loved watching the Syndicate video. For those of us who aren't fortunate enough to get to know these guys, watching a video like this gives us a great view of their personalities and dedication to the sport we all love. I wish all team videos were this length.
Great vid!
I know people on here really aren't a fan of Gee Atherton, but I really do like him a lot. I have loads of respect for that guy, his achievements, his raw talent, and how methodical he is at getting those things. From the Trek video they showed him very briefly, and when they did, it was him not placing well. I know I don't know him personally, but I am concerned for the guy. From the lack of showing him, I'm lead to believe that really the only thing holding him back is the team change? Regardless, you probably won't see this, Gee, but I think you're an incredible rider and that the shit these people give to you is nowhere near needed. You still do have support and fans, my man.
Yea, it's refreshing to see someone eat gluten, with all this social activism around, pushed by collage kids who never saw any sht with their own eyes and get offended by anything, witch hunting for sexists, racists, fat shamers and what not
I dont understand how someone with his record can be so unprepared and so unscientific with his setup. I think he is losing more places worrying about his shock than he could gain with a perfect shock setup... Just put the one you won Lenzerheide on ffs...
@thenotoriousmic: In an interview he said he wouldn't be going to all the races - my guess is Canada as well - just staying in Europe. (can't find the interview) - anyway, he knows he's not a contender any longer, so he's just being realistic and staying closer to home and family.
i was was surprised when i heard yt had singd angel. Partly in that i never heard of him, and partly that i was expecting a young american compatriot. ( charlie harrison, bruce klein, and others names that arent coming to mind. The increasing popularity of dh racing in the us and the rise of quite a few fast juniors would have made me thought aaron would choose some up and coming kid from he US. Nothing against angel, well other than his fondness for justin beiber. But not qualifying is pretty rough. Perhaps yt jumpt the gun,
am i the only one that noticed bryceland has this weird tendency of sticking his tung out. At first i thought it was just occasionally, but now allmost every single edit with him his tongue is sticking out. And its creeping me out. I really dont want to see bryalnd tonguing the air. And he seems to be doing it more and more frequently. It was weird with gene simmons and it's weird now
Gwin is the best downhill professional! Forget Bruni alongside Troy. Gwin is on his own leave!!
USA please provide Gwin all the support he truly deserves. We need USA back on the DH Scene!
Gwin we got your back! Keep tearing heads up
Forget about Bruni and Troy? How if they won Gwin? You are talking like he was putting 5 seconds on rivals in every race. I like Gwin but I like Bruni and Troy.
Does Pinkbike has a new marketing manager? becasue if they do, great move I will say. unless you are not gtting any money from first team videos in this section, which you guys should be considering has publicity? cheers!
sorry neg props… I'm a profesional publicist in audio and visual comercial maker with a marketing comunication diploma issue by internationa advertising association… cheers!
@rideonjon: you have no life stupid looser… get a woman have some kids… there is more than watch what other people do or say. thanks for the karma dude.
I think his is just too professional and seems like win his race too much-
There is no reason i hate him.... Respect him so much.
What ever the fucking situation only gwin have get clear score every time.
Nearly perfact racer.
that was 4 mins of my life that I'll never see......Dull dull and then some more Dull. He is good on a bike but man is he boring....someone give him a personality !!
Gwin is a "boring" rider compared to the majority of the pack both on and off the bike. Not Gee boring but still not the most exciting guy to watch. Im not as big a fan of his style as someone like the Rat, but id give my left nut to be half as fast as him.
@Wesley-Swipes: Compared to most of the field Gwins riding is boring. Compared to most of the riders he has the personality of, well, your average yank.
i don't understand people wanting someone else to be like them. why do people care so much? we've never even met them. just let him be the person he wants.
@daNI01: I was looking for that clip but all the ones I tried were blocked in the US. Love that section of video he did though, especially that HUGE sender. I remember seeing this footage of him crashing super hard on that jump too www.pinkbike.com/video/222222
Yeah, first to comment.i deserve to be neg propped just for that..BTW gwins a top dh racer, but sooooo lacking charisma.he really needs to work on his media image
More team vids, please!!!
,,,,....Ratty's line...I was committed to the line.
Nice edit in there clever mate.
You are talking like he was putting 5 seconds on rivals in every race. I like Gwin but I like Bruni and Troy.
cheers!
there is more than watch what other people do or say.
