We at AIR Films are making our first movie in Calgary and we need local riders. We are looking for any kind of MTB, downhill, freeride, street etc. We can't give you money but we can give you and your sponsors exposure. And if you don't have any sponsors, here's your chance to show your skills off.
AIR Films is making its first big movie in Calgary for this upcoming season. We are not a very established company, this inaugural movie "First Impressions" will NOT be sold for money, rather it will be posted on Pinkbike to gain publicity for our company and any participating riders. In the past, our movies have been well-edited, but we are looking for a more skilled group of riders to feature. We are not asking for professionals, just local riders who can kill it!
We are also looking for some local bands to supply some songs for our movie. Once again, we can't give you money but we can give you and your band publicity.
If you want to get involved as a rider or a musician, PM our account Airfilms for details.

i can't believe how stupid this is........
Hey, I dont think everyone on here should be talkin shit. Theres alot of riders out there who go to COP and some local spots that would love to be in a movie. They just need people like you guys who would rather be filming and making a good vid out of it..
no offence, i dont even live in canada, but that looks very amatureish. you need better fil equipment and editing. anyway dont give up, keep at it and itll turn out good
Note to all: A demo reel with better quality is in the works. The video was grainy due to some compression issues with the software. We will be stepping it up this year with a new camera, software and yes, we do have a tripod. To get involved, PM the AIRFilms account.

We aren't riding in our movie. We just filmed our friends to make a short trailer. We are looking for good riders who are better than us so we have some decent riding in our movie.

It could truly be an ok vid, considering I just returned home from a solo 3 month trip there and I KNOW there are some real impressive and good riders that live in Calgary.
BUT, you should not have posted that sample video. It was not good at all, it looked like the type of video that gets posted on the pinkbike video beta and gets criticized non stop. It is discouraging for others to see a video like that, they wanna make something GREAT not something they can simply make on thier own.
PS, Calgary is not a very fun city. But i just worked at a sobeys, met new people and rode alot.

Go for it! :-)
But if you guys use a tripod and learn how to hold the camera still (when zooming) will be way better
Cheers and good luck!

yeah no offense this kinda looks like an amateur film, i would be interested in riding but how do i contact the guys that are organizing this? to "onetimetwotime" : calgary is the funnest city ever, how can you say that if all u did was work at sobeys??? a little bit of prejudice there
im guessing you have lived in calgary your entire life, you dont know what other places are like.
i didnt only work at sobeys, i was there for 3 months. touring, riding, socializing, drinking, meeting, cruising..............
in the 3 months i was there i got a good idea of how the people are and what life is like there.

considerign calgary has the worlds largest park, sections in films like disorder, and a few pros, and some kids that realy kill it,id say it doesnt suck that much.
here's a tip for filming calgary.
Don't film ANY part of your movie at C.O.P.

wow, i read all the comments first and then watched the video... and people were not lying. that video was horrible. I don't want to bring down anyone or anything... but that was brutal. Ghost ride, un-balanced rider on ladder, full lock-up of brakes going down a hill, another ghost ride, some kid who doesn't even look like he rides much almost crashes hoping over a gap..
Did you even read the article? They are looking for better riders!! and what is wrong with a ghost ride? and when was there an un-balanced rider? did you want the kid going down the hill to go straight into the tree? and how does someone look like they don't ride their bike much? so what there not as good as you save your comments for yourself.
it's a comment. i can speak as i wish. just as you did
jeez, if I was trying to get a company name out for myself I wouldnt post sub-par examples of my work.
I dont even have a company and my video is better than his. Same quality of riding though!! Hah.
Check it out and let me know what you think. Maybe I will post a calling for riders in Lethbridge and brag about my new tripod. or not...

buddy no offence but your making yourself come off as a total ass, were all out to have fun nothing more. If your just going to criticize people trying to go out and have some fun riding and fiming you really must have the wrong attitude towards biking, biking is not about how good you are or how amazing your editing or filming is, its all about having fun just going outside and doing things, life isnt a competiton so dont try to make it one.
keep up the good work man....and dont forget everyone that each of us have to start somewhere...even NWD 1 look kinda amateur...
haha, nonsense. nwd 1 was in no way amateur
I look at it this way, it is ameteur's taking a bold leap into the film industry, most of us don't remember the days when current film makers (eg, NWD series, the 'Earthed' 1-4 video's, which is only 2 of hundreds) they were all a bunch of beginners at one time, my advice to these young guys in Calgary is in about a couple thousand hours of filming, editing, re-editing and mastering not to mention what you will learn as you go you will be looked up to, big names will come your way, stick with it and you might be the next big producers of the next big series... You are going to be insulted and made fun of for a long time, but those above forgot their first pedal strokes on a bike....? respect, or step up!
Thats a nice thing to say and its reasonable, but there are SOOOOOO many others around the world "dreaming" of becoming bigger, why do these sub par guys deserve a headline and article on the homepage of pinkbike.
We took a chance and decided to go public this year. Anyone else can do it, they just don't put the effort into it. As for "sub-par", we are amatures and this is our first real vid. There is no money involved though, so what do you have to lose? Take a chance and get involved.
hey dude, good reply. the first trails we built weren't the greatest either, greatness takes time and work. if ya want some good stuff to film get in touch with me, I can get ya to a few key spots in the area with some great film stuff. Good work on taking your dream and trying to make it closer to reality. I can tell you from experience, live your dreams, you only get to live this life one, play hard ride hard, live hard, love hard, die hard....
the reason these "sub par" guys get to be on the front page is because they are actually stepping up and trying to get their name out there. there trying to start something and its people like you that stop that from happening, your saying just because the riding that they are doing inst good enough so it shouldnt be in a video them and their friends made, your saying they shouldnt try to start doing something with it. everyone has to start somewhere.
I would say they are pretty brave for doing this. Its not about getting payed, its about having fun and just riding your bike.
respect.
respect.
i was kinda kidding even lethbridge has some very good riding
this movie is so gay they need way better riders and to much slo motion. props for making it but i live in idaho id ride for ya cuz im way better
way too much effects, titles were too long, the riding was mediocre the song would be cool if someone was really killing it. but its cool to see kids getting into filming and editing. just stick with it if its what you want to do.
damnit i lived in High River like half hour away from Calgary and then i had to move DAMNIT!
aww, thaat looks sweet. i dont live in calgary tho, if u ever come by st. albert, which is by edmonton, ring me up 780-717-0017

ah yo josh come ride moose mountain we will do some filming
and the movie I was in online is not on my website , it was called "East To West" and it was a whie ago
ride for pleasure, not for fame...
Why not for pleasure AND fame?
Sure, maybe the video isn't spectacular, but if I lived in Calgary I'd probably be encouraged to ride with them seeing as it looks they went out, filmed, biked and had loads of fun. It's much better than just hitting a 50' drop or whatever; nothing beats a fun day out riding with friends.
if thats what you call skilled riders, im sorry with what you have to work with. . . .
if you read the artical it says that they are looking for skilled riders
ill do it and i know all those people in that demo vid
id be down for riding in it considering i have my new bike by next summer props guys making dreams a reality bold move
are these a bunch of 10 year olds making this vid.? haha
dont give up

Really intrested.give me were, when, why. ill come out
Boring!
No action in the movie. I can make it better lol!

that was crap no wonder you asking for help
Any chance you are going to be coming up to Edmonton at all?
it wasn't that bad, was it?
the demo was pretty lame, really 3 foot air's and such. keep filming and you'll get better shots. tell those boys to step it up!! they''re gonna be on video. I'd ride for video, but i'd rather see some boys allongside ripping it up...you know ... inspiring.
too many people want to be "pro's" these day's forget that.. go ride youre bike and have fun.

ummmm, not trying to be harsh, but, it was kinda bad. I studying a degree in television production and the edits are really poor, pace of shots are random, and the effects are random and pointless as well. You are asking for good riders, but i think you need to get your production skills up more before you do this. Great riding doesn't always make a good video. The footage just seems like home made clips put together, and not like you have gone out to produce a decent peace of footage. Think about your shots more rather than the riding and how the viewer see whats going on.
Sorry if i sound like im having a dig, hope you get some awesome riders to help you out, and im looking forward to seeing the final edit!!

yeah, i agree, i can make a better film in my media class at school
im down to ride and help filming and editing
Good on Air for having the balls to try and go public with it. Ignore the naysayers, they are often people frustrated by their own failures.
c'mon peeps, cut them some slack... these guys are running severely behind schedule and just need some riders so they can finish this video, which according to the teaser was due out in October last year!! All kidding aside, I think it's great that you guys want to make a video of good riders, but that alone won't make a good video. From what i see in your teaser, you have a lot of learing to do as far as camera work, lighting, editing and overall production quality goes. For now I'd just say have fun riding with your friends and figuring out what makes a good video. You will know when you are there because the good riders will be coming to look for YOU! trust me!
I think your wasting your time here you guys are getting the whole site to laugh at your pre video why are you so bent on getting better riders WHY DONT YOU GET BETTER YOURSELF then make a movie?
no one would consider that kinda display id keep your riding more private and get beter before you go public

i would like to see you do better?
yeah clayton im down, i may be able to help out with some filming i will hopefully have my sony 3-CCD Mini DVCAM Camcorder with Wide Angle Adapter plus filters and such and i can do some of the filming
Ugh.. Good start on the film. We'll keep looking out for it. I would like to add, Do NOT use some of the features on your editing software(Invert, and a bunch of colour disoriantations that you had).
Thats the easiest way to make your vid look very amatureish..
Good luck.
