Canmore Bike Fest is coming!

In its inaugural year the Fest includes events for nearly all styles of riding and even for those who don’t yet ride. From skills clinics, to BBQs and dining, movies, competition, fun sessions and everything between, the fest will have something for everyone. And as much as possible is FREE! All Canmore Bike Fest event details will be posted to bikecanmore.ca.

July 3 Friday Night Eliminator (MTB-XCE) Race & Little Goat Push Bike Circuit
July 3rd Canmore Bike Fest will kick off with the Friday Night Eliminator put on by the Rundle Mountain Cycling Club (RMCC) in the heart of Canmore. Little gaffers are invited to bring their push-bikes and rip around a short course designed just for them between the Eliminator Individual Qualifying Rounds and the Eliminator Heats.

July 4 Saturday Morning Super D (MTB-SD) Race
Start your July 4th off with a bang in this all-natural Super D in Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park. Racers will be launching off at one minute intervals down some of the park’s best trails including Nector Noodle, to Ziggy’s, EKG, Laundry Chutes, FYI, Get Out, and finishing on Long Road to Ruin. The course is 4.3 km long with a fair bit of pedaling, so you’ll be tasting metal at the finish line!

July 5 Sunday Alberta Cup (MTB-XC) Race and Post Race BBQ
The Sunday Alberta Cup Race is a classic-style cross-country mountain bike race designed to be a nice mix of new racing terrain and old classic trails in Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park. The 5.8 km per lap course will definitely be exciting, varied, and super race-able. Racers will be given a voucher for the post-race BBQ.

July 5 Sunday Youth Trailblazer (MTB-XC) Race
The Trailblazers Youth Racing Program was developed by the Alberta Bicycling Association as a means of encouraging youth of all abilities to try competitive mountain biking. The Sunday Trailblazer Race is one of a series of these youth races taking place throughout the year. Three different courses will be raced so it’s fun for all levels of youth riders.

July 7 Progressive Dinner Tour by Bike
Olympian Sara Renner presents a remarkable riding and dining experience through Canmore with a multi-course progressive dinner. Canmore’s stunning mountain scenery and relaxed lifestyle attracts some of the finest chefs in Canada offering nearly 100 restaurants. Your tour features some of the town’s favourite restaurants with one course at each location – each course being a specialty of the house. Riding between restaurants is easy – and is also a perfect way to help digest the amazing food while you take in the beautiful mountain views. As you ride into each restaurant your table and food will be ready on arrival. Amazing!

July 7 Shred Sisters Girls Mountain Bike Youth Clinic (FREE)
On July 7th for Canmore Bike Fest, Shred Sisters is excited to offer their first youth mountain bike clinic for girls. And it is FREE! The goal with this event is to get more girls together to enjoy the sports and feel the freedom and adrenaline rush we get when we ride our bikes. Shred Sisters want to share our passion with you!

July 8 Poker Ride (FREE)
This is a fun poker ride for any age and can be done on any type of bike. And it is FREE! Whether you’re on a strider, a road bike, or a mountain bike you can choose a route that is as challenging or as easy as you want. Just get to as many of the stations as you can in Canmore to collect stamps on your card. Each station will be located at a cool little Canmore bike spot that you might not even have known about or been to before. Once you have as many stamps as you can get, ride over to the Miner’s Union Hall to be dealt cards that you can use to make a winning poker hand and win some sweet prizes. You might want to stick around after for the free “Builder” movie premier and tons of other videos too!

July 8 Builder Movie Premier (FREE)
BUILDER tells the story of trail building, through the eyes of some of our sport’s best riders. It will be premiered at the Canmore Miners’ Union Hall following the Poker Ride. Doors open at 6:00pm and refreshments will be served until 11:00pm. Poker ride prizes will be awarded at 7:30 and Builder will be shown at 8:00. In addition to the Builder premiere we’ll feature an eye popping assortment of cinematography throughout the night. You’ll be blown away by what we have to show you. As a FREE event with limited space you’ll want to get in line early or guarantee yourself a seat when you enter in the Poker Ride.

July 10 Cemetery Bike Park Jump Jam Session & BBQ
Hang Time Bike Parks and the Town’s parks crew have worked together to reconstruct Canmore’s Benchlands Trail Bike Skills Park. The park now features more progression for everyone from little rippers to the bigger ‘kids’ amongst us. Canmore Bike Fest is super excited to be putting on the Cemetery Bike Park Jump Jam. It’s going to be huge! Come by to participate or come by to watch and enjoy the BBQ. Entry in the Jump Jam is FREE!

July 11 Silvertip Hill Climb
Saturday morning Rundle Mountain Cycling Club kicks off the fourth annual Rundle Mountain Road Festival as part of Canmore Bike Fest. Canmore will play host to over 200 cyclists who will take to the streets, paths and scenic byways throughout Canmore. The Saturday morning Silvertip Hill Climb is 1.94km of pain. Riders will hammer out of the start at 2 minute intervals in groups of four.

July 11 Criterium
Saturday afternoon the Rundle Mountain Road Festival continues with the always gripping Criterium. The course is a snaking circuit incorporating the Town Centre business district and the adjacent residential areas around Main Street. The circuit has eight corners and is approximately 1300m in length. Top level riders will do an insane 30 laps… 240 corners if our math is right?!? Saturday afternoon will also see the Little Critters races for U5, U7, U9, U11, and U13 kids.

July 12 Road Race
Sunday July 12th is the final day of Canmore Bike Fest with the Provincial Championships Road Race. The race route starts at the Canmore Nordic Centre. Speeds will be high heading down Spray Lakes Road and then swooping at warp speed onto Three Sisters Drive. Racers will then pedal hard out Three Sisters Parkway to the Stewart Creek Roundabout and return the way they came and finishing with the climb back up to the Nordic Centre. The lap length is 16.5km through rolling terrain.

More Stuff Happening During the Fest

Saturday July 11th is the Canmore Miners’ Day Parade. Come on out to savor a bit of Canmore’s culture beyond the bike.

Sunday July 12th watch for the Heart & Stroke 30-seat Big Bike cruising around town. It’s a great fundraiser to support heart and stroke research and a really crazy bike!

Take a stroll down Main Street and check out the incredible art galleries, unique shopping, and world-renowned restaurant scene. It’s an experience you can’t get anywhere else. Look for our Bike Friendly Businesses and ask about incentives they’re offering, you just might find a sweet deal!
