Brett Tippie gives riders 30 seconds-ish to talk about their new rides. Mark Matthews, Jerome Clementz, Kyle Strait, Brian Lopes and Howey Zink (Cam Zink's brother) all catch up with Tippie to talk about their bikes.

Why aren't there more of these?

Jerome has a spare bike just because he trains with a 34t chainring and races with a 36t.....
  • 31 5
Those chain ring swaps are waaaaay too much to think about when you're King of Enduro.
  • 20 3
He should be training with a 38t, and racing on a 36t...............pssshhhh what a pussy.......
  • 18 17
No, as in he likes to have a spare bike for training. and that spare it is his preference to train in the lighter 34t option.
  • 13 2
It's easier to find your bike than finding the tools for chainring swap.
  • 15 1
makes sense a professional have a training bike and a race bike, the race bike has to be always 100%
  • 3 2
Yeah that's the main reason for a separate training bike. Why put wear and tear on the race bike? It needs to be dialed at all times.

noooo... not sure if serious or trolling :/ No idea why DirtyDee was neg propped too! He has a spare bike because anyone at the top travelling all the time has a spare bike on race day. There's just too many permutations of what could go wrong between racing and travelling to rely on one bike. The chain ring difference is incidental. Doesn't make sense to beat yourself up day in day out so a smaller ring on the more daily bike. Not too complicated! I'm sure if his race bike was out of action they'd swap the bigger ring to the "training" bike and you're good to go with the minimum of faffage

I have to disagree with your theory on the ring. It's within reason to assume he trains on trails with more varied terrain (climbs) than an enduro race serves up. So there could be something to the 34 training ring. At the end of the day, whatever he does works ... So who cares.

All of the above , and also airlines loose luggage all the time, so, with that in mind, traveling with two bikes makes perfect sense to me ... if you are a professional rider.

Tippie is the the mtb scene as milk is to an Oreo.

"Is he really that good in 30 seconds??" - - best question in the video

Don't let the Pinkbike staff watch this. Matthews cuts his bars narrower. You mean we don't all need to be riding 850mm bars to be comfortable and in control?!?!? Shhhhhhh, keep that quite so everyone goes wide and once everyone has bought wide bars they can start selling narrow bars as advanced upgrades.

@kc358 oh yeah, I forgot that it's impossible to make a side bar narrower: idiot.

Dear Mr. Lopes - You'll never be as slow as me.

I posted this earlier today, and it was in response to the shameless advertising comment about big Howie, but I guess it went away with the original poster removing his post, so here it is again. I said:
"I think they are all selling bikes, so I don't know how you missed that point. Maybe he is the only one to mention price and where to buy it. Go YT !! I am their Father and may the force be with you. "

Still makes me laugh seeing Lopes riding 29ers when he was hating on them so hard just a few years ago.

I agree, he was bagging them. However, on that course they work. And Lopes at 43-44 years old can out ride 90% of us on a tricycle
  • 1 0
Oh absolutely. He could whoop me on a Walmart special any course any day I'm sure. Happy to see people realizing 29ers aren't just for XC racing anymore though
