Chris Akrigg: Wish You Were Here - Video

Apr 13, 2016
by Pinkbike Staff

Weathers been pretty poor at home, so I thought it was time to jump on a plane and jet off for some fun in the sun. I managed to find a cracking deal, but upon arrival, I soon realised the brochure had been a little miss leading! Anyway, not one to complain, sometimes you just have to make the most of what's on offer....

When I'm riding around my neighborhood and jump curbs this is what I think I look like. In reality some driver is probably calling 911 because they think I'm having a seizure.

 HAHA ,you made me laugh!!!

You really have to watch Chris Akrigg's videos at least 3 times to truly comprehend what just happened, everything looks so easy, never mind the fact that he's on a trail bike!
  • 38 2
Always the most fun edits. Would be cool to get a bike check from Akrigg, he must run that suspension stiffer than Gwinn.

Can someone please make 4:04 into a "f*ck IMBA" gif?

@scott-townes: LOL, took me a minute...
  • 2 0
@StanMarsh: And also they always make adopt a straight position in my chair and get close to the monitor. So pumped edits... always!!!

 @atourgates: hahaha, niiiice

Good that was, my favorite part was when all those riders dressed to look like Chris just magically appeared.

Everytime I watch I tell myself, "that's it, I am going to go out and get really good at wheelies and shit" then 5 minutes later I am on the couch opening another bag of Flamin Hot Cheetos...
  • 3 0
 they're so tasty...
  • 2 0
living up to your name... nothing wrong with that!
  • 37 1
God is so unfair. He gave Akrigg all those super powers and all I can do is fart loud and speak while burping!!! Not cool god... not cool!!!
  • 27 1
Don't get me wrong, Danny always impresses but there is something about seeing Chris do this on a full-sus trail bike that impresses me even more.
  • 2 0
 Same here Smile
  • 6 0
Second that! Chris is my number one!
  • 9 0
@cool3: third! Danny is technically very skilled but Chris is so creative and arguably the top candidate for a "Best all around bike rider", when you consider all the crazy things he does on vastly different bikes and terrain.
  • 13 0
I really hate it when trials riders shoot an edit on a trail bike...eliminates the opportunity for me to think it's just the bike that gives them super powers. Sick edit brother!
  • 13 0
Reinventing how to descend spines! I never thought of bunnyhopping on my bottom bracket....genius!
  • 12 0
A+ RIDER!!!! A CREDIT TO PINKBIKE!!!!!! WOULD DO BUSINESS WITH AGAIN!!!!!!1!!
  • 1 0
 Good one! Big Grin

Time to buy life insurance...because I get so inspired and then practically die bunny hopping a stump...damn it Chris Akrigg
  • 26 0
You're in luck. I lurk internet forums in hopes of selling life insurance.

chris akrigg. one of the only names where i click here before "XT DI2"
  • 5 0
Some of you might know Rodney Mullen the skater from back in the day. I used to say this dude sold his soul for perfect balance. Jaw dropping balance! Akrigg might have sold his soul to Mullen. Haha. As someone who appreciates staying on the pedals (no offense to pushing up hills) blending trials riding with MTB is paramount!
  • 2 0
Mullen got his balance mastery because his Dad wouldn't let him leave the garage with his skateboard, so he did everything without rolling much. Maybe someone could manufacture a trials master in the same way
  • 6 0
The ending needs a voice-over of Dave Chapelle screaming "f*ck YO BOTTOM BRACKET"
  • 1 0
haha this is what I was thinking
  • 5 0
Super sick edit once again from Chris!! tup
I really hope he'll do a brakeless trials edit again, those are some of my all time favourites.
  • 3 0
Its the smoothness of the transitions and silky smooth riding from Chris that impress me everytime. Favourite rider by far. Inspired me to practice my wheelies on the way home. Bet i looked like a drunk giraffe on a unicycle though.
  • 5 0
If I ever buy a mogoose this man will be the sole reason. Unrelated note, I've played this level on CoD.
  • 5 0
Invite him to Rampage and see what crazy route he can dream up
  • 1 0
This is exactly what I was thinking!
  • 2 0
My first BMX bike was a Mongoose from Wal-mart and it weighed like 85 pounds, I swore I'd never buy another Mongoose...but then I see Chris Akrigg, and I'm just like 'Damn I gotta' get me one of these!'
  • 4 0
4:01 - goodbye many bottom brackets attempting this
  • 3 0
So inspiring! I just returned from a ride and now I wanna go back out and pretend I can ride like Chris Akrigg.
  • 2 1
Watching not necessary to favorite this one! (But, you'd miss the great setting, chain ring abuse, creative filming, and sick riding.)
  • 3 0
I would love to see the making of this!hes always amazing!
  • 4 3
Has anyone see another ride a bike like Chris Akrigg....I'm not sure if he is technically as good as DMac but points for creativity I am sure he has
  • 19 1
in my book he is the no1...no comparison. long live akrigg
  • 3 0
I think of Danny as more BMX/trials and Chris as MTB/trials.
  • 3 0
 Awesome jump through the window!
  • 2 0
The only thing missing there Chris was some brew in your cup at the start :-) Apart from that mate, awesome as always!
  • 2 0
Reverend and The Makers, so much style, Chris just makes all the right moves. I LOVE IT! Yorkshire top to toe.
  • 1 0
Amazing riding as usual - I like the roughness of CAs lines - raw at its best.

His video portfolio is rather special - vimeo.com/user1089639/videos

I wish I could do half the stuff he does in that video. Wait I wish I could do any one of the moves he does in that video.
  • 1 0
awesome riding but the part where he starts hoping down the ridge and buries his chain ring again and again made me cringe.
  • 1 0
Chris Akrigg can ride the Jamis Defcon in Bikini Bottom and make it look awesome.

Akrigg killing it as always! Where does he find these places? Stoked to go ride...Wink
  • 1 0
Spain, old open cast mining. Not sureste If Riotinto in Huelva or somewhere in Almería. Just imagine Chris's face when he saw that spot for the first time
  • 1 0
@LuisCR: yea he must've been smiling from ear to ear, awesome edit! Thanks for the info.
  • 1 0
he was over in Chile recently so I thought it was from there.
  • 1 0
 Chile? may be...

When I saw the vid the first time was pretty sure that the surrounding landscape is 'Cabo de Gata' National Park in Almeria. I've been there lots of times but don't remember the spot (mineral washery), so I done a little research in Akrigg's twitter and found that photo from 2 April www.instagram.com/p/BDsPB7iG68W

Appears a trafic signal and you can read that the road is in Almeria, also the environmental setting looks like coastal mediterranean (palm trees and all that staff)

Bike check please with suspension settings. That rear shock has got to be fake or 50 mm or travel. Love his edits.
  • 2 0
Any guesses where this was shot?
  • 1 0
There's a new bike in town called the Yorkshire Ripper and it's got an Akrigg engine in it!
  • 1 0
The skinny riding part was good to see, haven't seen much of that recently.
  • 1 0
For sale one slightly used Mongoose. May have a bit of dust in the bottom bracket!
  • 2 0
I'd love to see Akrigg's take on Rampage!
  • 1 0
45 minutes long, in which he'd ride down and up every single line. I'd watch it.
