Im probably going to get major neg props for asking this, but why do most riders in vids feel the need to whip EVERYTHING they hit? Riding with style does not mean you have to get sideways every 10m between jumps...Being smooth and riding with good, loose tech looks so much better. Or am i the only one who feels this way?
I know what you mean. It's not that the riding isn't awesome, but you just get the sense that sometimes the rider/filmers are trying to hard for the camera and it doesn't look natural.
Tough crowd today. If he had used his smooth loose tech how many of you would be raving about it? Pretty sure lots of people would be asking why it was on the front page... I thought it was awesome. If I could whip and manual like that I would, early and often.
You can't get fast and loose on most trails at the Canyons bike park... most of it is one line only, in-runs specific to each jump/drop. I know exactly what you mean but in this case, he's doing what he can to make it look awesome. I didn't mind all the whipping though because that nose mannie was gnarly and that reg. manual across to off the boner log was sooo sick. Overall, very impressed at the edit they were able to come up with the terrain available. twas enjoyable to watch.
Before watching I figured kidkazoo was just being a goof, but yeah, it does feel like an extended whip edit. There was enough variety in the riding so I don't think it's Kelly, just needs one more edit with two fewer slowmo whip sections. That said, it's a great vid.
My comment wasn't really about this specific video so much. When I watched it I thought it was cool, especially all the manuals. These manuals were especially awesome because they were done on jumps and features. It wasn't just the typical manual while pedaling in the flats that you see alot on videos.
I was just saying that I knew where @kidkazoo was coming from. When I watch videos it sometimes feels like the riders are trying to hard to make it look good instead of just riding. Like in this case the original comment pointed out to many whips. But it can be anything really. To many whips, trying to pump/jump off things that just aren't there, throwing the back end out and trying to kick up dirt in every turn/berm etc. Throwing in to much of that stuff can be counter productive to the ultimate goal, which is making the riding look smooth an stylish.
Because when you can whip like Cody Kelley, in both directions, it feels like the first time, everytime..
Also yes, most shots were on the first take.
Thanks for watching!
Well I'm sure some of it is purely for the sake of the video but I know personally that i like to whip everything....lol. I may not be quite as good at it as this guy, but it's fun to get sideways whenever possible IMO.
I guess just don't call it pinning if you're not pinning. Claudio was faster than Brendan fairclough for a reason. If I wanted to watch a pure whip/style video I wouldn't watch a video with the word "pinning" in the title.
I don't really disagree with you; there's a LOT of style being captured. Maybe it's just too much of a good thing. But imagine an "adult video" spending too much time on the plumber asking about drain problems. Storyline? Just get to the goods...
i dont seem to agree with this fuss, i thought the riding was incredibly stylish and flawless, i dont seem to see where the hate is coming from because the riding is incredible and on point, its not a technical pinner edit, but then again, it isnt trying to be either.
Thought it was a sick edit - very smooth and stylish. If you want pinned then this is the edit that always springs to my mind: www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7fNWw2fBQ0
What else did you want him to do? Cody is fast as hell check his race times. Wrong person to hate on of all the videos that get fed down our throats here's a kid to cheer for..... and everyones just bitching like normal pinkbike pussies.
Basically the only problem I have with the video is the misleading title. It's like that other video I saw about a guy diving into a volcano. Sure, it was probably super impressive to be at the pit of a volcano where the lava is boiling. But "man dives into volcano and describes it as a window into hell" kinda gives deeper expectations. Like I'm not a scientist. I don't know what sort of technology we could have developed, but I know that he didn't dive into the lava. I also know that this video wasn't a pinning video even though it was titled as such. It's important to put thought into titles.
Take it up with pinkbike, I'm sure Cody didn't pick the title. Justin probably didn't either. Over on Vital they're saying something about 'whips per minute' to describe this edit. Happy? 'Aw, dammit! This isn't pinning at all! Why did I watch this sick edit anyway?! Misleading title...' Listen to you...
If you are as smooth as him, then probably not. But I've heard from other people that the smaller bikes are a little much for the terrain. I've always ridden a downhill rig there and it has saved my butt numerous times as there are still some pretty good sized drops and jumps there.
I thought it was awesome. If I could whip and manual like that I would, early and often.

Killer riding and awesomely chill edit. Props to Kody for being such a badass on a bike!
Arrived here misled by their uniform ):
Did that not give it away?
