Maybe I'm just in the wrong line of work, but to keep my kid on a bike like this I'd almost have to forego raising her.

I understand that these are GREAT bikes, but what ever happened to working your way up? It's either cheap(dangerous) bikes, or these, that cost nearly as much as many of our first cars. The divide seems too great for kids bikes. Especially when you're lucky to get two seasons out of the.

My girls are small, and we just bought two cleary hedgehods for them. The Cleary bikes were more expensive than the commencal option, but lighter and nicer colors. We'll probably get 2 seasons, by the end of which we'll know if we should keep investing. In the mean time the 2 year old will grow into one and we'll find a worthy recipient for the other. The bikes are pricey compared to crap, but still they are an investment in my kids' passion. If it pats off we'll have years riding together.

Complaining about the price of a kids bike is like complaining about the price of organic food. I guess you could go buy them a console. That would cost you a lot less then taking your kids out to ride once or twice a week. I'll invest on my kids future now. By the way....these commencal bikes for kids are very affordable considering the quality of the bike compared to others kids bikes that are too heavy and never get ridden.....

Great comments, however in the end I think it comes to this.

If Commencal is willing to build it, and someone needs it/is willing to buy it for the price, more power to both of them. Hopefully volume will eventually push the price down, that is/should be the way it works.

If other companies start offering hardcore fs bikes in a 20" wheel then I could see prices coming down. For now competition is more on par with the Ramones.

that cost nearly as much as many of our first cars => how many first cars would cost your own bike? Or the bike of plenty of people coming on PB website? Many people are loving their kids at least as much as they love themselves. So why they should buy them a cheap bike and ride with their own 4000 US$ bike?

I get it though. If your kid will grow out of it really fast it is hard to justify the purchase. The thing is, between the alternative (Walmart crap that limits what a kid can do) plus resale value, and quality time, for us it makes a lot of sense.
My first car was $100. Can't get much for that. My current cars combined are $5000. Not spending near that. Of course I don't care much about cars, so why should it matter?
This is a happy medium.

I am the father of Louis and Aurélien, I'm ok with you and yes its expensive bikes, but I prefer to invest in bikes for my kids to be outside and bursting with mom and dad as see all the day before a playstation or otherwise. This is my point of view. The moments are just incredible.

My neighbor just bought his kid a new Xbox. I just bought my kids good bikes. My kids toys will cost me money if they get addicted to riding like me, bit better that than diabetes meds. Now if only it hadn't snowed several inches Christmas Eve, and not stopped since. Looks like we are going to the indoor bike park.

Makes me happy about the future of our sport

Amen to that! To me, it doesn't matter that kids this age have such 'pro' gear as someone alluded to above, remember this video IS a commercial for this brand, but even so there will always be the haves-and the have not. It doesn't matter. Surely what does mater is that there are two more youngsters to inspire the youth to get out there. More power to them, and all the young shredders out there getting into the sport Smile

 My girls were certainly impressed.

The best way to look at the cost of a kids bike is to compare it to other things that kids do. How many people spend $20 a week on gymnastics or some other once a week activity/sport? That is $1040.00 a year for the kid to do something once a week...An awesome bike that the kid will ride the shit out of everyday is a very good investment.

These kids send it harder, better, faster, and stronger than me right now. Depressing as that may me for me to think about, I have to applaud their skill, especially for their age.

I think when you start that young you develop your skills faster cause you're not afraid about injuries and/or worried about other grown up things of life as if you were an adult. Everything you're worried about is having fun at that age.

Those are some little rippers. I feel like 3 is a little too young to bring my son to the downhill park but he's shredding the local pump track on his strider. I'm so excited to get him on one of these and hit some real trails.

Great video. Can't wait to have my youngest and grand kids join me on these cool bikes. I see Norco is offering a 24" full suspension hydrolic disc bike, The Fluid 4.3 at just over $1700 CAN. Might be a good option too.

Commencal is one of 2 companies making 20" fs bikes happen. I hope one of my kids needs on in a few years.

 Scott Spark JR ...

Lilshredder bikes. Scott's spark Jr 20 has some good features, but it had a lot of bad, and it isn't even disc.

www.lilshredder.com The Prodigy can start with 16" wheels and then switch up to 20" wheels. Depending on size of kid that is 4 to 10 years old they can ride it. Definitely not cheap, but handmade and hopefully will have some decent resale value.
