by Official Crankworx
It’s on. With just five months to go before Crankworx hits the Southern Hemisphere, fans can now find some hotly anticipated information online to start gearing up for the kick-off to the 2015 mountain biking season, from March 25 – 29 in Rotorua, New Zealand.

Kiwi freeride legend Kelly McGarry says having the Crankworx festival in Rotorua is a huge step forward for New Zealand mountain biking, bringing the spotlight to the local riding scene.

“Crankworx festivals draw the world’s best riders from all aspects of the sport and it puts them together in one big mountain biking arena to ride and compete – it’s all streamed live on the net so everyone worldwide can watch the action go down and see how we do it down here,” he says.

My humble opinion, id go ride the courses that the EWS is racing on, its all in happening in the whakarewarewa forest, so its right on the doorstep of town, and a few of them will even be accessible by the shuttle bus most days.
And its worth going out to rainbow mountain and going for a hot swim in one of the thermal streams after (They are in the lonely plant if you want to find them).

@THATdjGuy go shuttling and do, BillyT, Split Enz, pondy, go up again do Eagle vs Shark go up again do corners then if youve still got gas, go up and do jumps track into little red riding huck. if you dont have that much time then i recommend, jumps track into second half of corners, instead of the last two runs.

I was over biking Rotorua in January, the place (Redwwods) is fairly easy to navigate and the locals that I met were real cool and very helpful, even got shouted a shuttle on the bus by one guy. They don't yet seem to be numb of the tourists like a lot of other destinations.

A few of us are looking at making the trip over from Oz for this. is it going to be possible to fit it all in? watching the events and riding the trails if they are cordoned off for competition or jam-packed with pros and over enthusiastic amateurs. Maybe it would be best to arrive in the last few days the stay a few more after?
any tips? never been to a proper MTB migga fistiville aye bro

It's basically like the country is every cool thing you'd ever want to do or see wrapped up in the tidiest little package, filled with a heap of humble friendly people who seem to eat coffin nails and broken glass for breakfast. Rotorua is every North American lawyers wet dream because it seems like there's an endless number of ways you can pay to kill yourself there. Returning next year. Can't wait.

@AmbientLight We managed to find a place that was fully self contained and could comfortably sleep 4 adults. We got it for $590 for 5 nights. Theres 3 of us going down so it worked out pretty good Big Grin

It a photo of Kelly McGarry, one of the most well known Kiwi mountain bikers. It's also one of Crankwrox's own photos, maybe they just didn't have a better one of Kelly and didn't want to steal for the press release?

^ There are plenty of sick shots of him beyond this, haha. To be honest, I thought the exact same thing. its like the shots of slope skiing in the Olympics. This is a horrible photo.
