It was a wild start to the first race of the season, rain hammered the Niagara Escarpment for 3 consecutive days, culminating in a 7hr drenching on Saturdays practice day. However it could not dampen the spirits of the riders, if anything it motivated them more. Our second ever largest turnout was welcomed by sun on Sunday morning which combined with some wind dried the course out nicely for race runs.
A great womens field was trumped by Sheila (the great) Morris (Cycle Solutions/Angry Johnny's), chasing her down were Kristen (Poisonfrog.ca) and Caroline (Jamis/Bikezone) both getting in under the 2min mark!

2. Kristen Courtney Poisonfrog.ca Toronto 1:57.842
3. Caroline Arsenault Jamis/Bikezone RacingToronto 2:00.185
Next up everyone was watching the Junior Expert field, the return of Rob Fraser (Poisonfrog.ca) and Andrew Gotuaco (Sweet Petes) along with newcomer and last years cadet champ Robert Bailey (Commencal). And surprise surprise guess who showed up on the podium Rob, then Andrew, the Robert!
1. Rob Fraser Poisonfrog.ca Pickering 1:29.863
2. Andrew Gotuaco Sweet Pete`s Collingwood 1:36.066
3. Robert Bailey Commençal Cambridge 1:37.750
The anticipation grew as the day grew on waiting for the Pro Men, would all this extra time help dry out the course??? Yes it would! Drew threw down the gauntlet with a ripper a full 2 seconds faster than the fastest time of the day. Tom followed up with a stellar 2nd place and Brandon pulled in a healthy and well deserved 3rd.
1. Drew Pautler Primary-Devinci Brampton 1:24.385
2. Tom Kakamousias Cycle Solutions/AngryJohnny`sRacing Toronto 1:26.9232
3. Brandon Cassell Adrenaline Racer/Industry Skate Park Strathroy 1:29.131
Our next stop is back here at Kelso June 14/15, we are building a brand new course so be ready for something sweet!

looks like a fun race, and a short course too. this makes me so ansy to go out and race. i love dh!
Is that the same organization that is dozing Tim DaSilva's BMX Track? BOOO the Niagara Escarpment!
It actually refers to the geological area.
You were referring to the Niagara Excarpment Commission. BOOOO to the NEC.
Ah, thanks for clarifying that for me.
i can't wait until the next race hope i can race in it this time
i hope next course isnt all up hill lol good runs thought
you are right, unless we head out to Quebec, we might never have a real DH course in Ontario. Blue Mountain is our only last choice in Ontario although it is still pathetic. Well, better than nothing. Can you believe they closed HWY and Progressive Park.
I need a ride for the next race? Anyone here in Toronto has room on his car? hehehe
just don't understand why the race courses in Ontario are always so narrow and filled with swtichbacks like it was desgined for technical run for XC riders. This is DH racing, man. Where the speed is much demanded not just technical skill. Please learn from thos DH race event from West Coast or other world class event organizers. In Ontario, there isn't already any real tall mountain. At least make the course more presentable to world class DH riders if we want to produce more world class DH riders.
Its because we ride the escarpment there's only so many places you can ride down where the hill isn't at an 80* angle or you don't hit a 30 foot cliff this in turn means that we need to follow the lines of the escarpment which are thin and really switchbacky, the later races in the series take to northern Ontario and are much better.
take a look at the run time. 1:30. If you were to straighten this out and open it up, the new race winning time would be like 28sec. Wouldn't that be totally awesome. I think for what ontario has to offer pete and the crew have done a pretty good job in doing the best possible.
world class riders? Drew Pautler, Jusstin Brown are racing UCI world cup this year, Derek Cowell is fast as f*ck too...we have the largest downhill scene in canada and Pete is doing an amazing job to battle with our shitty ontario legislation!
very well put ^ if we straightened out the trail and opened it up, dh would just be boring being that short... for ontario the best we (peat and the sirbikealotracing crew) can do is to fill it with switchbacks, still makes it challenging and a good dh trail, plus it lengthens it out so we arent done withing 28 seconds (as "moose" has already stated)
this years course was fun but short, watch this vid to see the track http://www.dsvideo.ca/Brian1run.html
There are also a lot of environmentally sensitive restrictions that have to be considered during the design of the track.
Even though the times are short Pete still puts on the highest attended events in the country. A lot of props have to go out to him and his crew for successfully managing that.
At least he is making the effort to have a race series and giving Ontario racers a place to ride where they normally would not have.
