Rocky Mountain Bicycles is proud to announce the signing of legendary freerider and trail builder Dave Smutok.
“I’ve seen Dave compete several times and not only are his skills impressive, but his popularity and crowd appeal are huge”, says Rocky Mountain team manager, Peter Vallance. “We didn’t plan on adding more riders to our roster for next season, but when we heard that Dave was available, we had to try to get him.”

A gifted athlete, Dave began his athletic career as a cross-country ski racer and won several junior national championships. In 2003, Dave turned his focus from skiing to mountain biking and quickly became a staple in the sport. With little more than a year of experience under his belt, Dave was invited to the 2004 Red Bull Bike Battle where he rose to the top taking the gold medal. Since then he has been invited to some of the most prestigious events in the sport, including the Kokanee Crankworx, Monster Park, and Adidas-Slopestlye events.
In addition to his role as a freeride icon, Dave is a talented all mountain rider and has played an instrumental role in the development of the Highland Mountain Bike Park in Northfield, New Hampshire. With the help of Dave and his trail crew, park visits have doubled annually as the parks terrain progresses with new trends in the sport.
Vallance adds, “Dave’s involvement with Highland, the highest profile mountain bike park in the U.S., is a big asset for us. In addition to the park, Dave also gives us valuable presence in the East Coast U.S., something we’ve been lacking previously.”
Dave will be campaigning on Rocky Mountain’s new Flow DJ, Slayer SS 427, and Flatline Pro in 2009. .

Pic of Smutok pulling the biggest superseater ever at Crankwox in 2007, too bad this pic doesn't show the height he had.
It seems like Rocky has gotten a bit disoriented in the last year or so. They let go all their young guns and Vanderham, and then add Smutok? I'm not trying to trash Dave and his riding (which is great), but I think we can all agree Vanderham is at a whole other level.

defanatly two different rding styles, vaderham goes big with steeze and has tricks in the bag, smutok has a way bigger bag of tricks, more talent on the jumps and street and then also shred the dh and freeride. there both great, but rocky still has wade, that kyle kid who is still basicily a young gun and been killing it for a few years, not to shaby of a team.
You dont like Smutok? You dont even know him. He wont just abandon the mountain he's put some many hours into.
I feel very lucky to live less than 10 minutes away from Highland Mountain Bike Park and have been able to ride there anytime! Plus its awesome to have Dave Smutok a member of Rocky Mountain cycles because it means he will probably be at Highland more often ripping it up!
Dave's definitly a sick rider and trail builder. He's a big reason HMBP has the best riding on the east coast. Glad to see hook up with a great sponsor like RMB. Props Man.
