The spirit of Evel Knievel returns to historic Uptown Butte, Montana on July 23rd and 24th as the second annual Evel Urban Downhill hits the streets. The race will be held in conjunction with this year’s 15th annual Evel Knievel Days, the rowdy 3-day celebration for the legendary stuntman in his hometown. The Urban DH event fits nicely with the non-stop, high-flying daredevil atmosphere of the full-tilt motorsports street party that attracts 55,000 visitors daily.
Race organizers are building upon the success of the 2014 course that featured a gap jump over a Camaro, a pit of rattlesnakes and an original jump ramp used by Evel Knievel himself. This year the snakes and cats have been replaced with a fast and flowing expert line with big berms and bigger jumps built by Pete Costain and his TerraFlow crew that justify running a long travel DH rig.
On Thursday, July 23rd the novice / beginners will be hitting the course at 4 and 7 p.m. and Friday, July 24th the Pro/Experts race at 3 and 6 p.m. It is the best of two run format.
The (sold-out) Butte 100/50 mile mountain bike race rolls out Saturday morning from Homestake Pass if you need more mountain bike action.
Or you can just settle into the Uptown spectacle to witness numerous crazy-ass world record attempts (like a 500’ motorcycle gap-jump or backward car jump) or simultaneous backflips by an ATV, motorcycle and snowmobile off the huge kickers built in the street.
Located at the intersection of Interstate 90 and 15, Butte is a ‘convenient’ drive from anywhere in the Northwest / Intermountain-west. Come for the race and indulge in the raucous festival atmosphere - but plan on staying to ride sublime sections of the Continental Divide Trail and enjoy Butte’s genuinely unique hospitality. It will be worth the drive.
