Africa: Exploring the UNknown

The idea of "Exploring the UNknown" was to come to this place with no expectations at all and just see and take what we get. In the end we have been the very first ones to ride a bike there and had another first descent ride in our pocket coming home.

First day, first hike, first ride.

Rocky. Loose. Dusty. Rough. After some days of hiking and searching for something rideable we have been happy to find some proper Freeride lines on this small island.

Looking forward to getting to know the culture and see how life is going on in this area of Africa we went for a visit at the only real city Mindelo. Great time to meet people and for sure a lifechanging experience as they are very poor but happy, nice and friendly.

Riding the coast with the chance to enjoy a lonely sunset was very special and for sure something we´ll never ever forget again in our lives.

Beach and grill time with the locals we already made friends with. Such a great time feeling the spirit of their life. Big THANKS to KitesurfNOW as well for being welcome at your place!

White rocks out of sand. Be careful riding or walking, they break once you put a little too much weight on.

What an honor to have the chance to visit a small village right next to the sea, be welcome there and even have the chance to be the first white people to go inside some small locals houses. Also happy to see the kids having fun with us.

After some long hiking days we were happy to find this path we at least were able to do a bit of Enduro riding on as well. Special one by the way with a view over the sea like this.

Steep and rocky rides with the view over the whole island. Spectacular.

Just do a bit of Googling and you will shocked to see how huge mountain biking is here in South Africa... Worried about bike spares, support or lack of purpose built trails? Come here and be shocked, there are bikes shops everywhere selling absolutely anything you could want and especially here in Cape Town you will never be more than half an hours drive from an absolutely epic ride that can compete with the best that the world has to offer.... The Cape Epic isn't held here very year for nothing... It may be an expensive sport to the average South African... but passion is something money cant buy

Not sure they could hold the *cape* epic anywhere else xD

True that but it wouldn't be as epic if it wasn't in the Cape Wink

Just for an information i can say that Sao Vicente is a very small and poor island in front of West Africa associated to Cap Verde but not at all a tourist place as the main Cap Verde Islands and never known as a biking place before. Small Villages right next to the sea in the middle of nowhere we had the chance to stay and just that one little city Mindelo with a harbour you need to go to finding a market. Great landscape, great people, great experience. Enjoy the photos.

Having just come home from South Africa and some riding there, all I want to do now is go back again. Africa is unbeatable as experience and the locals are just so many smiles and so friendly. Great pics.

my parents moved to Pretoria, South Africa just over 2 years ago for my dads job and I borrowed his hard tail when I went over to visit. It's such a beautiful place and the locals are amazing. It's dangerous but where else can you ride and come across an elephant playing in the water?

Great! Tons of riding also here in Ethiopia, the green roof of Africa. Big mountains and trails everywhere, and new Chinese roads make a lot of it shuttle-able. First descents most weeks.

What kind of trails did you find?

Stunning photos, indeed. What a stark contrast between the incredibly gorgeous landscape and the sad realities of a third world economy. Good to learn your crew was welcomed and friendships were made.

Not deep Africa, Sao Vicente is a nice holiday place in Cape Verde Republic. I was expecting some more writting from the authors.
