Mark Weir is good at life. He made a habit of climbing more than a million vertical feet in a year, and is always ready to work harder, and play harder, than anyone you’ve ever met. He’s ready to give you the shirt off his back, the last bit of food in his fridge and the best chicken in his coop. But Weir is most in his element, and at his best, when he’s able to share trails with other mountain bikers — friends and strangers alike.

No one was quite sure what the rules were to this game were but it was clear that Thomas beat Marco.

Count Cutty and his co-captain courageously carving corners and crashing.

So, when a mix of mountain bikers were invited to join Weir for a long weekend of riding at his newly christened compound in Graeagle, California, they were a blessed bunch, whether they knew it or not. They understood that it wasn’t going to be easy. This is Weir country, after all. They might’ve eaten sandwiches in the dirt but it wasn’t a picnic. Wake up calls at 4:00 A.M. to catch a glimpse of the rising sun were mandatory. So were half-mile hikes in the snow to “get to the goods.

Mark and the town of Graeagle kept us happy and full.

But winning at life requires extraordinary purpose. And the ability to share it with others. Weir has a refreshing outlook on sharing these epic places with others.

bigquotesNever to exclude, just to carry the respect for the place. That's what makes me who I am everyday. These places are not here for us to keep close. They are here to share. Relationships are built on chance. I'm happy to know chance brought us together to share a place we all need to respect. - Mark Weir

Another example that Mark Weir knows what he's doing: no Lefty on his Cannondale.

Pretty much none of their factory riders do. Says something about them that no marketing can cover up. Cannondale should really do away with their silly proprietary parts. Their bikes are starting to look pretty antiquated.

@bridgermurray: because most of their riders are also sponsored by RockShox or Fox. Also Cannondale understands and is putting Pikes on the Habit SE this year as well as the upcoming Trigger and Jekyll.

Because Cannondale only sponsors the the frame and other bits but for the suspension, its sponsored by other companies.

@Questlove967: Yeah I'm aware of that. I just think it says something tht canondale can't convice any professional rider to ride a lefty when they're distributing that piece of junk to the masses as some "super fork". They're all smart to find suspension sponsorships elsewhere.

@bridgermurray: No pro would ride downhill at race pace with only half a fork! Wink

@vikb: Didn't Marco Osborne win the Mammoth National last year on a lefty? It might have been the year before...

Graeagle is a secret! Shhhhh! My family has had a cabin there for the last 60 years. Amazing place. Amazing trails, unbeatable back country everything. I want to ride with these dudes and see what they know that i don't...trails are endless and deadends all at the same time.

And love me some Downieville downhill\ action too ! One of my favorite places to ride in California.. great fishing, camping, bikepacking, rad singletrak action in the lakes basin. area

Mark Weir in a lot of ways got me into mountain biking. Back in the day when he was doing the Downieville thing, the interviews with him, and his reasons and attitude for doing what he does and how he does just seemed more authentic and relatable than most pro MTBers at the time. Super excited to see him on PB again.

Go full-on Weir and have the bikes on the front and the back. Who needs to see where they're going when they know the trails so well!
