With the local community getting firmly behind the event, creating vast sections of new tracks, it’s great to see the riding possibilities across Aspen, Buttermilk Mountain and Snowmass Bike Park opened up. Richard Cunynghame talks through what’s in store for the fifth round of the Enduro World Series and takes you for a ride down the first day's stages.

I live here and get to ride all these trails on a regular basis. While there may be more technical trails on other mountains, few compare to the sustained steeps and never ending vertical you can ride uninterrupted top to bottom on loose, tight, flowy singletrack. Once you let go of the brakes things get serious quickly as speed increases. Add in narrow passages, abrupt tight corners/ switchbacks with loose on hardpack, rocks, roots, and drops, you better be on your shit cause there is no margin for error. And try keeping it pinned between 8,000 and 11,500 feet above sea level. Not as easy as it seems, or as the pros make it look I assure you, and the go pro footage does not do these trails justice.

I think it's good to have a variety of trail types showcased on the EWS. If this is what Aspen riding is like, awesome. The EWS boys will show us just how fast you can go on these kinds of trails.

@bjfanshel - no worries. When the first PoV footage of Hafjell DH track was released there was quite a bunch of idiots saying it's flat and straight. But thank you for your testimony Wink

Blasting through those white trees is such a unique colorado experience.

 aspen groves

Hate to burst your bubble, but riding through aspens can be done a lot of other places besides Colorado.

@jkldouglas: Yeah ya do. That's why you wrote it Wink There's a few few larger groves outside of CO, but nothing that compares.

@BUCK3TM4N: There will be a full 20 minute highlights show right here on Pinkbike by Monday evening.

Hey @EnduroWorldSeries your highlights packages are awesome and the fact they are out so quickly after the event has really got me hooked on the EWS series this year. Excellent stuff, keep up the hard work!

Absolutely, I also kinda miss the times when he and Warner commented the DH races together.
  • 3 1
Definitely - why does Cunny not longer do those? He is missed.

@Paco77: To be honest, I think it's because the community asked for Claudio more or less directly... it would not be the first time, Red Bull respected our wishes. The course previews were embraced very well by the people and so they took it further step by step. I liked it better when Claudio was just doing simple course previews and Warner and Cunny were commenting the races in their usual and sometimes obscene fashion. Problem with Claudio´s commenting in particular is that he does not get his sentences together quickly enough at times. I can totally relate to that problem as that is not a simple task in a second or third language, but in racing the situations often require a loose tounge, and this is where Warner excells.
