There are gals who are faster than almost every single person on this website.... so saying somehting like that is utter bs. I bet people like steve smith were stoked that a gal had a faster or similar time to his. Personally I think it's hot as hell when I get smoked by a gal. Great for them. lil dirt bunnies
jv8616 how would you know? Your just saying that because of my negative props.
Also... look at some of the olympic times in many diff catagories. You would be surprised at how many times, records etc have been made by women. Of course, women don't compete against the guys, so no one really ever mentions something like this.
Just typical male comments saying O chicks can never be faster or better. You guys def have a thing or two to learn about women.
Second... good going. Its nice to see your so passionate about the subject.
www.bikecult.com/bikecultbook/sports_recordsHour.html
you might want to look at that... you will notice.. a lot of the female cycling records are right up there with the male ones. Speeds just a fraction off etc.
I don't take every comment too seriously... I just don't like it when spoiled snot nosed kids make degrading comments about women. Nuf said. Man up and just say you were wrong rather than have a pissing fest back. Would have just been easier to say, I didn't mean it that way... dontcha think?
Anyways ... no more flame. Back on topic.
With that in mind. Pro male athletes will be faster (most likely) then a Pro woman because its down to anatomy. Just how it is. But, they look better in spandex and are sexy when sweaty.
Go Aaron Go Yeti Go America!!!
One should also consider opportunity - if DH suddenly become the most popular sport for women and hence a greater feeder-group, I think the time differences would narrow soon. At the moment, women make up such a small proportion of competitors that I once saw a woman win a State DH championship in her first ever DH race and on an XC bike because she was the only woman that turned up. This smaller feeder group is reflected in the results, as airbornmtnbiker notes above, the difference between 1st and 5th men is 2 seconds - for the women that blows out to 9 seconds.
If the sexes are so similar, then why is there a mens class and a women's class? ...because there is a large difference between men and women.
Point and Match!
There is a real sense of "can I beat a world champion"... Nothing sexist about it, I am never going to beat or get even close to the top men.
I don't care if they beat me, it just gives me an extra incentive to try that little bit harder. Little old me (well 35) getting a faster time than a world champion (even if they are a different sex).
I normally come in in around the same time as the top women in the world so it is cool to see how my times compare to theirs.
The sport needs more women in it. They tend to come over less serious (more relaxed perhaps) than the blokes.
considering that we have , here in Canada , BC and all the DH riding is being done there.
There as been world cup in Quebec for more than a decade in Ste-Anne and Bromont where the riding is done about 6 months per year.
we have a federation , national series , a bike industry in very good shape and ridiculously fast riders.
i cant get my head around it.
are we not compétitive enough ? , ...maybe...but still , i dont think that's the problem.
our DH racers are compétitive , our industry is not.
we need to re-organise and commit. We need to suport and manage.
we need more Canadian DH racer doing world cups.
i'm not judging the women , they are doing great.
i'm not judging the riders ,
Anyone know if Canfield/White Bro's ever does world cup events? I know they do a lot of local stuff around the country but I have yet to see anything of them in the media. (I know they are a low budget team tho)
Aaron is the man plain and simple. Hope to cheer you on in New York!
shame with peaty what happend with that?????
2 possible winners for their categories, bot fastest by far in their categories, both off on the same corner.

We were timing the riders down from the entrance to the old track to the slab before the deer fence. Interesting who was fastest on that section, but could not pedal like the rest of them.
How funny do the femals look coming over the final jump...
The woods mostly new (entrance etc.) pinball gone and replaced, traverse gone and replaced. before the woods replaced. All with completely different and new track. Some of it only completed a week or so ago.
How? No one's saying.
Where? Just before the woods.
Result? Probable separated shoulder (unconfirmed) and heavy brusing everywhere else. Rob Warner made a comment about Hill suffering to get out of the chair he'd been sat in for a few minutes.
Hill sounds gutted in the interview, and seemingly was a mess.
My pal (Sponger) took the picture of his bike that is everywhere...
I'd say they aren't... but maybe winning the Worlds has taken the edge off?
Hope not!
"Michelle Dumaresq (33) is Canada’s downhill mountain bike champion for 2003. She is also transsexual. She completed her sex-reassignment surgery from male to female in 1996. Michelle has competed in the pro circuit, but downhill mountain bike racing is not yet an Olympic sport.
Although Michelle did not compete as a racer when she was male, she did ride challenging courses all through her childhood. She claims that once she transitioned, she noticed the change in her physical fitness level. She said that without testosterone muscle mass decreases and she has to work extra hard to maintain her top physical condition."
