A GoPro contest for everyone to get into but the winners are always the GoPro sponsored riders,i'm not saying that they are not good riders, but it's weird to see that a sponsored guy wins a contest hosted by the company he's sustained by ..
Check their winter line contest, it was awesome and people had the whole winter to submit videos. And the winner's line was my favourite indeed. And he got 20K $
It should be about building your own line and ride it. Not to go onto the crankworx course to show off your final run. Sam, you can be happy that Rheeder didn't enter, otherwise you would be 2nd !!!!!
Yeah allowing competitive runs where the athlete already made a bunch of money takes the fun out of it for me.
I like the creative local trails I've never seen, not the bike park freeways that have already been posted a zillion times on youtube.
Came here to make sure people were calling out GoPro for its B.S., was not disappointed. At least this time they didn't start with a rule that said GoPro affiliates couldn't enter then eliminate it half way through
this defeats the purpose of a contest when you're literally using professional athletes who are already sponsored. This platform was horribly put together and only showcasing pros takes all the creativity and fun out of it. I'm sure there are a ton of awesome amateurs who submitted footage that took hours of riding and perfecting. Go pro dropped the ball on this one in my opinion. If I want to watch Sam pilgrim throw it down I'll watch his highlight reel from the event. That slopestyle run had bad lighting on top of it all...better rethink this next contest or you'll have people buying Sony action cams out of spite.
It really does come across as just a way for GoPro to showcase, support and award their riders without hosting an actual event. I don't have problem with their pro riders participating, if this were location event we'd all want to see them there anyway. Heck, the total purse for this is twice that of their Mountain Games in Vail, the competition should intense for this money. In this context seems it makes more sense to have pro and amateur classes and maybe some "attendance" prizes and really build it into a virtual event.
Check out the Line of the Winter version of this contest to see how it should be run. Funny, another winner where he just used footage from another contest he was going to film anyways... I wonder if Pilgrim is already sponsored by GoPro... so glad I'm not wasting my time on this contest this time around. Sorry, Pat, your entry was the best.
@bilsmy I think that's a great idea! Would love to see an interactive virtual event put together somehow - I think the online voting platform isn't good cause of hacker accounts but there's gotta be a way to create a platform that would be draw the amateurs into the events.
"...Employees of Sponsor and Administrator, Sponsor’s and Administrator’s parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion, fulfillment or other coordinating agencies, individuals providing services to Sponsor or Administrator through an outsourcer or temporary employment agency during the Contest Period (collectively, the “Contest Entities”), and their respective immediate family members and persons living in their same household whether related or not, are not eligible to participate in the Contest." just gonna ignore this section right here......
Thanks for the comments,i saw line of winter and it was way better in my opinion ..plus Teo (the guy that wins ) wasn't sponsored by GoPro,plus he was bloody pro ..
I concur with your original statement. In what is essentially an ad campaign, GoPro awards a pro that it already sponsors... This defeating the whole point.
They seem more than a bit out of touch here...
Yeah, the winner's line is amazing, on a track that someone else built. But it's no more amazing than 3rd place, which actually shows some creativity.
Mission failed GoPro.
It is always strange if the votes of the judges differ that much. Rak gives him 67 points, Secco 95 points. Incredible that Rak judges Smage's performance and style with just 15 points
It must be especially challenging riding with that accuracy, on that bike, with your camera smashing into trees and whirring around your head like some imbalanced helicopter rotor blade
Why are they giving away GoPros as a prize to people who obviously already have one!?!?!? Most of them get sent them for free so it's just another one to add to the pile.
Yes, I read it, my point was that they also get some money. The fact that sponsored GoPro riders win is another topic. The marketing team probably believes that a non-gopro-sponsored guy can win the competition *akh-no-akh-way-akh*
How do you score 20+ in beauty & lighting when your clip is a contest run? Zero control over when and what you're riding meaning zero thought going into the 'beauty and lighting' for your clip. And Remy scoring 15 for 'performance'...wow...clearly Oli does not ride bikes, that was such a gnarly line!
This is like a painting contest for the general public where Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Van Gogh and Picasso would be (alive and) allowed to enter the contest. Very motivational and very fair indeed. NOT.
I'd rather go pro gave the money to one of the unknown shredders out there of which there are many. Tons of guys fucking rip and a contest like this would give them really great exposure.
POV,s always look like POV,s. Composition? what ever. And the money goes to a pro. Nice to see Go Pro supporting the average guy. BTW POVs are bloody boring.
oh dear - that feeling of Déjà vu - dont think GoPro read the comments section last year then!! - which basically means no matter what you say on here the industry takes no notice lol
Not questioning Pilgrims skills, but this is just a simple, almost average helmet cam run of a average crankworx course... There a better, way more creative edits by not sponsored riders...
Biggest Add bust ever, *&%*&^$&%$#@!@#$%^&*()_)(*&^%$%$#@%$*&^)(*&. This contest is a big let down. When the winners are pro bikers and no real amateurs have a chance to win. A waste of time for regular bikers that summit videos
@dkav1021: I say you're top 5 anyway. Why? Because:
1) Classic GP moment: your buddy Geoff is ocd about "Is it on? Is it blinking?" and you just whatev, take off. 2) Next Classic GP moment: I don't know your buddy Geoff, and I still don't, because he obviously trusted you to provide the obligatory face-grab light-check...except you just rode off not giving two shits. 3) Not even knowing why your vid is mixed up in these shenanigans. (This could be my fave.) 4) Trying to smash @RedBurn in the face with some humble pie. (No, maybe this is my fave.) 5) You're a dude riding and not crashing. At my level, good stuff. Thanks for making sure I wasn't watching a page full of contest re-runs.
Are you kidding me? This contest is a f*cking joke... of all of the submissions they honorably mention a couple of intermediate riders floating small jumps with little to no style....
Not saying I'm MASSIVELY better than these guys, but I also wouldn't expect my most proud videos to get an honorable mention in a contest like this.
Calm down, this video wasn't meant to be VOD, I didn't even know it was submitted. It's not any sort of portrayal of our riding abilities, just Geoff Gulevich and I screwing around. Sorry your video was not mentioned.
Although i love a bit of douchbagery, it is impossible to hate on Sam Pilgrim, he is the coolest dude on the planet. Forget the corp. bullshit and be stoked for Sam. Impressed with all the edits as well.
Don't think it's a matter of you being "terrible", but that video was subpar at best in the context of this contest. Zero style on a small jump line...
congrats on being chosen, but i can't honestly say it was well deserved...
I thought it was a cool video, plus hellion is so fun. Maybe if the contest was run properly it would be better received instead of being compared to a bunch of pros sending it.
On that note, there are some pretty nice alternatives these days.

this should apply

DKav for president. Or at least $1000.
Props to Sam though :-)

Oh they gave you free Go Pro's too looool
