A GoPro contest for everyone to get into but the winners are always the GoPro sponsored riders,i'm not saying that they are not good riders, but it's weird to see that a sponsored guy wins a contest hosted by the company he's sustained by ..
  • 20 2
 Same argument, different thread...
  • 47 5
another gopro contest, another shitty campaign to promote their own riders. Oh Gopro, you never disappoint.
  • 7 0
Check their winter line contest, it was awesome and people had the whole winter to submit videos. And the winner's line was my favourite indeed. And he got 20K $
  • 25 3
It should be about building your own line and ride it. Not to go onto the crankworx course to show off your final run. Sam, you can be happy that Rheeder didn't enter, otherwise you would be 2nd !!!!!
  • 19 0
Yeah allowing competitive runs where the athlete already made a bunch of money takes the fun out of it for me. I like the creative local trails I've never seen, not the bike park freeways that have already been posted a zillion times on youtube.
  • 10 1
Came here to make sure people were calling out GoPro for its B.S., was not disappointed. At least this time they didn't start with a rule that said GoPro affiliates couldn't enter then eliminate it half way through
  • 13 0
this defeats the purpose of a contest when you're literally using professional athletes who are already sponsored. This platform was horribly put together and only showcasing pros takes all the creativity and fun out of it. I'm sure there are a ton of awesome amateurs who submitted footage that took hours of riding and perfecting. Go pro dropped the ball on this one in my opinion. If I want to watch Sam pilgrim throw it down I'll watch his highlight reel from the event. That slopestyle run had bad lighting on top of it all...better rethink this next contest or you'll have people buying Sony action cams out of spite.
  • 8 0
It really does come across as just a way for GoPro to showcase, support and award their riders without hosting an actual event. I don't have problem with their pro riders participating, if this were location event we'd all want to see them there anyway. Heck, the total purse for this is twice that of their Mountain Games in Vail, the competition should intense for this money. In this context seems it makes more sense to have pro and amateur classes and maybe some "attendance" prizes and really build it into a virtual event.

Never mind that guys...why does Andrew have his nevegal mounted backwards....?
  • 3 1
Reel Cameras are better just saying........I think gopro needs a new marketing strategy the "Upro" for pros and "gopro" for the rest of us....
  • 1 0
Check out the Line of the Winter version of this contest to see how it should be run. Funny, another winner where he just used footage from another contest he was going to film anyways... I wonder if Pilgrim is already sponsored by GoPro... so glad I'm not wasting my time on this contest this time around. Sorry, Pat, your entry was the best.
  • 5 0
Guess you can still dream about becoming an honorable mention...
  • 1 0
@bilsmy I think that's a great idea! Would love to see an interactive virtual event put together somehow - I think the online voting platform isn't good cause of hacker accounts but there's gotta be a way to create a platform that would be draw the amateurs into the events.

I am going to support your sentiments (and mine as well) buy not purchasing another GoPro product, thus "unsupporting" stuff like this with my wallet.

On that note, there are some pretty nice alternatives these days.

"...Employees of Sponsor and Administrator, Sponsor’s and Administrator’s parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion, fulfillment or other coordinating agencies, individuals providing services to Sponsor or Administrator through an outsourcer or temporary employment agency during the Contest Period (collectively, the “Contest Entities”), and their respective immediate family members and persons living in their same household whether related or not, are not eligible to participate in the Contest." just gonna ignore this section right here......
  • 2 0
Thanks for the comments,i saw line of winter and it was way better in my opinion ..plus Teo (the guy that wins ) wasn't sponsored by GoPro,plus he was bloody pro ..
  • 1 0
Oh yes,i really liked Pat Smage, sick riding skills + sound + video quality and creativity ..
  • 3 0
I concur with your original statement. In what is essentially an ad campaign, GoPro awards a pro that it already sponsors... This defeating the whole point. They seem more than a bit out of touch here... Yeah, the winner's line is amazing, on a track that someone else built. But it's no more amazing than 3rd place, which actually shows some creativity. Mission failed GoPro.
  • 29 0
Pat Smage's was definitely the most creative one
  • 7 0
It is always strange if the votes of the judges differ that much. Rak gives him 67 points, Secco 95 points. Incredible that Rak judges Smage's performance and style with just 15 points
  • 7 0
It must be especially challenging riding with that accuracy, on that bike, with your camera smashing into trees and whirring around your head like some imbalanced helicopter rotor blade
  • 30 2
How to WIN this contest. Number 1 rule: You need to be sponsored by GoPro.
  • 22 1
Why are they giving away GoPros as a prize to people who obviously already have one!?!?!? Most of them get sent them for free so it's just another one to add to the pile.

flag barzaka FL (Aug 11, 2015 at 4:16) (Below Threshold)
Do you read bro? They get 1K $ and chance for the 20K prize
  • 11 8
Yes but obviously you can't..... what does it says on the next line down? Oh yeah, they're also giving away GoPros as prizes. Bellend.
  • 2 1
barzaka read what it says directly above the poll box.
  • 3 4
Yes, I read it, my point was that they also get some money. Wink
The fact that sponsored GoPro riders win is another topic. The marketing team probably believes that a non-gopro-sponsored guy can win the competition *akh-no-akh-way-akh*
  • 2 0
@gavlaa I've always wondered what a bellend was. Do tell.
  • 17 1
How do you score 20+ in beauty & lighting when your clip is a contest run? Zero control over when and what you're riding meaning zero thought going into the 'beauty and lighting' for your clip.
And Remy scoring 15 for 'performance'...wow...clearly Oli does not ride bikes, that was such a gnarly line!
  • 1 0
 Agreed! Upvote for you!
  • 1 1
Yeah, I can't believe Remy rode that shit clipped in!
  • 1 0
And go pros make things look flat? That looked steep as tits
  • 10 0
This is like a painting contest for the general public where Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Van Gogh and Picasso would be (alive and) allowed to enter the contest. Very motivational and very fair indeed. NOT.
  • 2 10
flag barzaka FL (Aug 11, 2015 at 4:17) (Below Threshold)
Would you watch someone riding a flat trail with 20km/h? I will deff not.
  • 5 0
I'd rather go pro gave the money to one of the unknown shredders out there of which there are many. Tons of guys fucking rip and a contest like this would give them really great exposure.
  • 9 0
POV,s always look like POV,s. Composition? what ever. And the money goes to a pro. Nice to see Go Pro supporting the average guy.
BTW POVs are bloody boring.
  • 7 0
oh dear - that feeling of Déjà vu - dont think GoPro read the comments section last year then!! - which basically means no matter what you say on here the industry takes no notice lol
  • 8 0
GoPro contest should be a No-Pro contest...honestly, who of us can really compete with these guys?!
  • 3 0
should be a "no-GoPro sponsored rider" contest
  • 1 0
I ment what I wrote....No-Pro, because we all know very well how good they are, even the worst of them!
  • 7 0
Disappointing result. Stoked for Sam Pilgrim, just wished it gave recognition for those who try just as hard without the "brand" name.
  • 8 1
 Pilgrim's sponsored by GoPro!!! Off.
  • 6 0
 Remy and Berrecloth too...
  • 4 0
Not questioning Pilgrims skills, but this is just a simple, almost average helmet cam run of a average crankworx course... There a better, way more creative edits by not sponsored riders...
  • 3 0
 Biggest Add bust ever, *&%*&^$&%$#@!@#$%^&*()_)(*&^%$%$#@%$*&^)(*&.
"...Employees of Sponsor and Administrator, Sponsor’s and Administrator’s parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion, fulfillment or other coordinating agencies, individuals providing services to Sponsor or Administrator through an outsourcer or temporary employment agency during the Contest Period (collectively, the “Contest Entities”), and their respective immediate family members and persons living in their same household whether related or not, are not eligible to participate in the Contest." just gonna ignore this section right here......

this should apply

The whole contest doesn't make sense to me.
  • 6 0
How can you be so ignorant GoPro/pinkbike?
  • 2 0
its like they don't read the comments at all, like not even once.
  • 4 0
This is actually pretty lame. I feel as though GoPro sponsored athletes riding in a contest or race should not be allowed to enter this contest.
  • 4 0
This contest is a big let down. When the winners are pro bikers and no real amateurs have a chance to win. A waste of time for regular bikers that summit videos
  • 2 0
 @dkav1021: I say you're top 5 anyway. Why? Because:

1) Classic GP moment: your buddy Geoff is ocd about "Is it on? Is it blinking?" and you just whatev, take off.
2) Next Classic GP moment: I don't know your buddy Geoff, and I still don't, because he obviously trusted you to provide the obligatory face-grab light-check...except you just rode off not giving two shits.
3) Not even knowing why your vid is mixed up in these shenanigans. (This could be my fave.)
4) Trying to smash @RedBurn in the face with some humble pie. (No, maybe this is my fave.)
5) You're a dude riding and not crashing. At my level, good stuff. Thanks for making sure I wasn't watching a page full of contest re-runs.

DKav for president. Or at least $1000.
  • 1 0
 thanks man! hahah.
  • 5 0
How about a contest for the "normal" guys that don't ride for a living
  • 3 0
Usually even if you are affiliated with a company you can't even enter let alone win the bloody thing, what the hell Gopro?

Props to Sam though :-)
  • 5 1
how to win: be a sponsored gopro athlete, extract the SD card, send it to the contest.
  • 3 2
 "HONORABLE MENTION - DELANEY KAVANAUGH"

Are you kidding me? This contest is a f*cking joke... of all of the submissions they honorably mention a couple of intermediate riders floating small jumps with little to no style....

Not saying I'm MASSIVELY better than these guys, but I also wouldn't expect my most proud videos to get an honorable mention in a contest like this.
  • 2 0
Calm down, this video wasn't meant to be VOD, I didn't even know it was submitted. It's not any sort of portrayal of our riding abilities, just Geoff Gulevich and I screwing around. Sorry your video was not mentioned.
  • 3 0
Wait so even the video people thought was an amateur featured a pro? And you didn't even know it was submitted? This whole contest is confusing.
  • 6 1
 Not buying a gopro again
  • 3 0
Pinkbike, how can you advertise such a biast comp???
Oh they gave you free Go Pro's too looool
  • 3 0
Unsure about you guys, but that first place video is an absolute snooze fest to watch.
  • 4 0
Go the man and his dog.
  • 6 2
 Such a joke! (again).
  • 4 2
This shit makes me not want to support gopro, what a tone deaf company that is totally out of touch with its user base.
  • 2 0
How many style point did Nico Quere loose for having handguards on his mtn bike?
  • 2 2
Although i love a bit of douchbagery, it is impossible to hate on Sam Pilgrim, he is the coolest dude on the planet. Forget the corp. bullshit and be stoked for Sam. Impressed with all the edits as well.
  • 2 1
If you dont want to shit your pants and spew at the same time, do not watch the Sam's and Remy's while drunk....
  • 6 3

flag nvranka (Aug 11, 2015 at 10:57) (Below Threshold)
Don't think it's a matter of you being "terrible", but that video was subpar at best in the context of this contest. Zero style on a small jump line...

congrats on being chosen, but i can't honestly say it was well deserved...
  • 5 1
yeah man, thanks for the positive feedback.
  • 2 0
I thought it was a cool video, plus hellion is so fun. Maybe if the contest was run properly it would be better received instead of being compared to a bunch of pros sending it.
