Helmet Cam: Danny Hart Ripping Apart Schladming

May 27, 2015
by Pinkbike Staff
No World Cup in Schladming this year and that's a bloody shame. A little mud on the camera lens is a small price to pay for watching Danny rip down the track.

I've put up my downhill bike for sale with the intent of getting a more versatile enduro bike. After watching this, I'm starting to have second thoughts...

There are only two bikes you need in the garage. A DH bike and an Enduro bike.
  • 10 4
@nhp890, you could always look at getting a 180mm travel bike like the scott voltage, ns soda etc, I,ve got a 180mm yt noton pro2 and love it, it's great downhill and ok at riding back up

There's something about this type of bike I don't like. I can't put my finger on what it is exactly. I was looking at getting a Commencal Meta SX 650b in a mildly dh-oriented spec (chainguide, dh tyres)

 n+1
  • 5 4
since i got a meta sx 650b i only once sat on my dh v3. such an awesome bike.

The perfect ammount of bikes is n+1 indeed, where 'n' is the current ammount of bikes you own.

@Rabbuit: Wish it was that easy. I also need a (single speed) xc bike, a track bike for the streets, a track bike for in the velodrome, a dirt jump bike, a street bike, and a commuter. And a freeride bike with +-120 front and rear suspension would also be nice for the freeride tracks in bikeparks.

@Mattin I will be using Your scientific approach when explaining to my girlfriend why I need another bike
  • 1 1
@mark3 I have the same bike and I have to agree its the perfect middleground. I race dh on mine but I can keep up with my enduro friends too with just a couple of mods e.g 34t nw chainring and a rockshox reverb.

@nhp890 You do not need a bike DH to make the descent of the video.

Good luck @yxbix! I recommend already making up the couch Razz Women are an extremely dangerous species.

@yxbix There is another formula you may wish to consider... n-1, 'n' being the amount of bikes your girlfriend/wife will leave you at!
  • 3 1
@torero agreed, but I would definitely have more fun on a full blown dh bike in this case.
  • 4 2
Technically you could ride it on a cyclocross bike if you really wanted to and have the skills for it. But it would be terrible, super slow, sketchy, and not fun at all.

@nhp890 check out the banshee darkside. Get a 2.5" stroke shock, single crown and flip the dropouts for enduro. Then a dh fork, 2.75" stroke shock and slacken the geometry back out and bam! Two bikes. I'm still waiting on my single crown fork for trying this idea out. As a dh bike it's kicking ass though.

 Guerrilla Gravity Megatrail!

@Mattin as a lady myself I fully believe in n+1, so do most of us that ride bikes. Women in general are not dangerous. but if you have a bad moment and end up dating a girl that doesn't ride bikes you could find yourself in trouble and having substantially less fun.

ONE DH one enduro ,one fatbike . one gravel /road next is the midfat

Tom tom bandit is one of these shits !!

not the camera's fault. This camera does 1080 but its just because whoever uploaded it or edited it did not do so in HD... A shame!!
  • 2 1
The cam stillsucks a bit we hear so much the wind! Gopro 4 was a big improvement for that problem !

 This deserves full-on-4K-60fps-oculus-rift-I-want-to-live-in-the-Matrix-if-I-can-be-Danny-Hart-mode!

shame, wish it was in higher res
  • 31 1
Thats how fast I feel Im going, then I look at my Gopro footage.

I dont think this track got the 'ripping' the title claims. If anything Danny was just having a gentle coast down to the bottom. Love to see him hit this in full race mode!!
  • 3 2
FYI, Danny did not ride the hardest lines on the track- he avoided going into 2 gnarly wooded sections that normally are in the tapped race course.
  • 5 0
Agree with both - didn't look like the full monty to me but still a good watch
  • 9 0
the follow cam would have been short lived if he gave it the ripping you're asking for.

Def chillin, at times. Those whips are so ridiculous. Landing almost fully vertical too. All on a wet day. Legendary.

This goes on the favorites list for study. So fluid and smooth. Makes it looks so easy! I want to ride like this in my mind when I ride! Knee position, bike position, wow. Impossible grace on the berms. That jump! Must have been a few hundred meters!

Obligatory - LOOK AT THE WHIP!!!!!!!

 WHAAAAAT THE HELL!!!
  • 2 0
 Haha! Hell yes......
  • 3 0
Would have been nice to see Danny slay the wooded-gnar sections at the 2:19 and 2:39 marks. But it is mega greasy right now and now point risking an injury before Fort Bill. Give 'em hell, Danny!!

Who was following him? Wasn't more than 10' behind him the entire run.

 Youtube description says Innes Graham.

I believe it was Innes in front.

Danny is so smooth...a pleasure to watch. The stop signs are funny...stop signs what stop signs?
  • 3 0
He makes it looks so easy. Whole run he put his foot down only once. Beautiful to watch

It was Innes Graham in front i believe, Danny was filming. There's videos from a few days ago where Innes was hitting the big gap after the fire road where, in this case, Danny rolled.
  • 4 0
other way round @hairy-g Innes is filming with Danny infront
  • 2 2
Wow, this wasn't even cool. I don't know what you guys are talking about!! For starters I could barely tell what was going on do to the crappy video quality. Second this literally looks like every go-pro video I've ever seen. They are not even going fast either. Like why do all these B level riders get crappy go-pro footage put up on here? It simply doesn't make sense.

This mud on the lens looks interesting Smile I use in downhill drift stealth camera, which is so small and sleek that it's difficult to "aim" with mud into its lens Smile

who on earth films in 360p these days?
