CJ Carter, AKA "Diavolo" was a freeriding pioneer who built one of the world's first loop de loops back in 1904. Matt wants to channel his inner Diavolo and turn his biggest, most fantastical dream into a reality - to build the biggest loop de loop the world has seen and then, gasp, to ride it! To turn this vision into a reality, Matt needs your help. Invest in Matt's project and have your name, your brand, your logo stamped on a piece of history!

Raise the Loop

The Project

Matt Macduff, Is about to embark on his most ambitious project ever! Building the world's largest wooden loop de loop (40’ Tall) 12 meters and riding it on his bicycle. This is no easy task… So Matt and his crew, need your help, and want you to be involved in the action, every step along the way.

Every piece of this massive structure is up for sale, that means when you support this world record attempt. You'll be able to leave as big or as small as your like, depending on the different creative option of your purchase.

Ultimately you will help create a giant performance art master piece for Matt to ride and the world to enjoy. A cycling monument to be remembered forever!

bigquotesWe're super excited to be teaming up with Matt this year and, as with all of his projects, Raise the Loop looks set to be something truly special. We're sure people will feel the same as us and make sure the Kickstarter total is smashed and paves the way for THE riding project of 2016! John Firth at Oneal

Risks and Challenges
There are many risk's and many challenges in the world of actions sports but few are more experienced and qualified then Matt to handle them.

After the structure is complete a short video will be released, Directed by Louis Lhomel, Documenting Matt ridding the world record Loop and dedicating the stunt to all who helped him realize his dream… That's You!

bigquotesAfter the project, I'm hoping to use the Loop and the compound at The Trail Park to do some filming for an upcoming web Project. With a super Loop as my squirrel catcher, you know it's going to be interesting. Matt MacDuff.

Raise the Loop
The old-timey, bad-ass inspiration behind it all.

An email to Redbull didn't do the trick?
  • 44 5
Don't worry, their logo will be prominently displayed on there for sure
  • 11 1
Not as easy as it seems...
  • 17 2
I don't think he's even sponsored by Redbull
  • 28 8
He's not. He's sponsored by Pinkbike. Who could afford to foot that bill by the way. He is sponsored by GoPro though. Not sure why they don't just foot the bill for it. Between PB and Go Pro they could drop $10k each and give them more than enough to get this done.

But pinkbike doesn't really have a "reason" to fund it because it's going to end up on the site either way. And they'll get first shot rights at releasing any footage as part of their contract with MacDuff.

But Redbull doesn't necessarily have to sponsor the rider... it's more about sponsoring the event... the ramp. You think every rider that hit the YT jump at rampage was sponsored by Rampage?
  • 14 1
Everything extreme doesn't need a Redbull stamp on it If it did I'm sure the charity's, like the one the proceeds from Breath Easy went to wouldn't stand a chance of surviving. I find it strange people would rather pay for a can of shitty drink from a company making billions than support a fellow rider who supports charity
  • 10 2
you guys are forgetting about companies requiring something called "return on investment"
  • 8 0
I have no problem with companies running a business,I have to do the same to pay the bills I'm sure macduff has bills to pay and with only a few sponsors, giving up all the proceeds to Breath easy I thought was honourable, so was just showing him some support
  • 27 5
No no no please not red bull! That would mean we all have to suffer and watch this amazing record attempt on their shitty media player.
  • 11 3
just because $11000 doesnt seem like that much, company's like pinkbike and gopro dont have the funds to simply say, "here matt heres $5000 to attempt to do your dreams. life is just not that simple and never will be.
  • 6 2
Uh yeah, they do. Return on investment is a key point. Maybe not from one stunt, but Matt kills it. PB and GP should be excited to put their name, and funds, on a Macduff endeavor.
  • 6 0
Just realized I said sponsored by rampage at the end of that last post. I meant sponsored by YT... but I think most folks could put 2 and 2 together.

$ 11,000 - What's the big deal, that's basically the price of a new bike these days.
  • 30 0
why buy a bike when you can buy a loop?
  • 35 1
Uwe could all pay together as one group and get a huge dick painted on the loop. I think I'll never grow up.
  • 8 4
 Who is Uwe?
  • 3 0
 Uwe...THE MASSIVE DICK man!!!!
  • 2 0
Well... Not the thing what I wanted to say. But Ican live with Uwe paying 11$ for Matt.
  • 28 3
Would you pay $5 to watch Matt hit the world's largest loop? If 2,500 people say "yes," he will build it, film it and everybody gets to see it...

The thing nobody really cares about a loopy doopy twisty inverty. Let alone pay $5 to see this. Save your money, go sign up for a race.

I don't care who the rider is, fuck a closed loop, fuck an open loop. I wouldn't pay one cent to see it myself... wouldn't watch it if it was posted to watch for free. Total zero interest in a loop in mountain biking personally. I thought we were over the loop fade from a few years ago.
  • 24 0
You both suck a bag of dicks.
  • 8 0
^omfg... but yeah seriously why do y'all have sticks up your asses? It's Matt Macduff breaking a world record. Who the hell cares if it's "just a loop"??? Stop complaining about shit you will never do and go ride!
  • 38 15
I like Matt as much as the next guy, and seems like a neat project, but the whole kickstarter thing is getting a bit out of control. I'll happily contribute to a rehab / injury support fund (such as Paul B, or by paying for Matt's movie), but building a giant loop? Sorry - I just don't feel it's important enough to warrant my money.

This is what sponsors are for, if they're not interested, it's either a) boring, or b) you need better sponsors....4500 for "travel"?! I'm good, thanks. Will my name be stamped on the boarding pass?
  • 10 1
 Welcome to the mtb scene.
  • 25 3
$4500 travel for 6 people. That comes out to $750 ea. for round trip travel. Considering that likely includes airfare, ground transport and hotel accommodations, that's not bad.
  • 6 8
It's a fair price, until you expect someone else to pay for it so you can have fun.

Which is why he can pay for it himself. Nobody made him travel across the planet to build a stunt.
  • 4 1
can he? its a big chunk of money and i dont think the odd review bazooka and rise videos pay well enough to chuck 11k at a project.

using your logic: nobody made you donate, nobody made yu click on the link and watch the video, nobody made you comment...
  • 7 1
If he was realistically trying to keep costs down, why fly 6 guys across the world to build it? Common sense tells me that if you're going to appeal to the public for financial support because you're unable to support yourself, that you'd at least try and keep the amount required to a minimum. It's like the homeless guy on the street only accepting Versace suits as donations. I won't be donating, and I'm entitled to my opinion as to why...As i mentioned earlier, the sponsors are the ones that should be supporting this, as they're the ones that financially benefit from their financial input. In turn, I'll watch the video, and the "sponsor" will gain exposure. That's how these things work. At the very least, build the stunt, make the movie, then sell the footage, then the people who want to see it, will pay the money.... Good luck to Matt regardless.
  • 17 0
I'll pitch in $100 if Matt does it with banana peels on his pedals.
  • 18 4
um.... why south africa?? of all places. that's a very expensive place to travel to.
  • 12 1
Probably the same reason there re building that massive step up there for pure darkness 3, I assume they have free range of the land, to build what they want, and no safety bullsh*t to deal with cause its private property? But again ya wonder why he wouldn't just build it at the SOF...
  • 13 0
Anyone have Matt Hoffman's phone number?
  • 10 1
Please watch breath easy for free above before you decide not to donate, $11000 to cystic fibrosis from the proceeds of that film.
I'd guess macduff will have agreed a big donation to some charity from his sponsors if he funds the loop himself?
Also pretty sure what ever video comes out from it,won't just be the loop
  • 2 0
i feel like pure darkness may end up being released at the same time Big Grin hopefully anyway that would be siiiiick!
  • 41 33
Man I love MacDuff but $11k on a loop is one of the biggest wastes of money I have ever heard. The only reason the one he made was so good was because it was so sketchy.

Come on. Ho is it wasted money?
You can buy 1,5 high end downhill hill bikes for this.
If you think about it like that it isn't that much if everybody pays.
(I have a Trek Session in my bedroom too. I don't want to hate people who ride expensive bikes with this comment)
  • 16 0
$11k is ridiculously cheap for a project like this. This is a prime example of how little effort is required from companies in the mtb scene to get their names associated with a project that has the potential to reach a huge amount of online viewers. It's a shame that creative riders like MacDuff have to fight for such budgets...
On a side note, if you hit a 40ft. loop, you're well into the "this had better be built right or otherwise i'm f*cked" terrain, so it's ok to have something like a build plan for once Wink
  • 32 0
 $11000 CAD that's like 800 bucks US!
  • 7 0
@stupendousman, agreed. I wish more companies in the bike industry would see the value in this. Time to outsource? Get ESPN all over this!
  • 9 0
if you split that $11,000 evenly between all 35,000,000 people who live in Canada then you'd get $6,000,000 each
  • 6 1
I think you might want to double check that math
  • 6 2
I would much rather see an off axis loop, like a vortex or some crazy over vert cradle. Do something that hasn't been done before, not just the same thing bigger.
  • 3 1
I get that angle of everyone donating to be a part of it sounds cool and all, but im pretty sure their doing that because his sponsors wouldnt give up the dough. Could be wrong but with all the other stories about money in this cheap industry it wouldnt surprise me. Compared to mx or skate its embarrasing. Why do these huge names start stepping it up for these riders?
  • 6 0
12 metres for those who care.
  • 13 9
 Freedom units ("feet") will suffice.
  • 3 0
Matt: There's no need to put a column right next to the roll-out... In fact you shouldn't put a column next to the roll-out. Make sure you've got a decent engineer on board !
  • 1 0
Considering how high 40 ft is and how a loop works, how fast do you plan on going to make it succesfully around it? Motorcycle tow in is bs. If its a roll in im down. Id like to hear a marketing plan to get the word out, afterall it's no good having your name on something if noone sees it. Building permits and zoning and use/event permits unless its going to be outlaw but also a contigency plan to reimburse people should things go awry prior to the event. I think its bad ass myself. First guys id hit up about this would be the nitro circus guys.

Tell you what! Give me $11,000 to build and ride a 40 foot loop and I will break the world record for the most AWESOMEST crash and burn ever!! And don't worry for you can watch it on pay per view for 20 bucks!
  • 1 0
I don't know is it a joke or he really will build this loop... As for me, if I knew definitely that my name will appear on this loop even for $10 then maybe I would pay this little amount just for fun! Good luck MacDuff
  • 1 0
Damn, I wouldn't want to be the one with that hanging over my head. To be honest, I would almost rather he didn't do it, because it's such a slippery slope.

I reckon the bigger the loop the easier... although it is scarier and more dangerous.
  • 1 0
Scientifically; how much do you weigh, what size wheels you running, how fast will you need to hit the bottom of the ramp?

GOOOD LUUCK MATT! from the Sayers

sick. good cause and great idea!
  • 14 3
@gavlaa read the article man. It's not $11k for the loop. A huge chunk of that is traveling expenses and paying the crew. It's more like $6-7k for the loop. And that's really not all that outrageous considering what it will take to build it correctly.

Beyond that... for a lot of companies sponsoring something like this is pocket change. If you think about what it costs to run a single full page ad in one of the big mags and how much more visibility this will get... it's a bargain. Redbull should just give him $20k and call it good. Paint that sucker. Shoot it. It'll end up on youtube, every bike website, facebook a million times, etc. It'll get so much more visibility than a print ad it's crazy. Probably 1000/1 compared to a print ad for the same price.
