The All New Hope Hub

Infinite Adjustment!! – Futureproof Hubs

After several ideas were tested the final solution proved to be very simple. Inspired by the infinite adjustability of "pump" trainers from Reebok we fitted an expanding air cylinder inside the hub. This cylinder allows the hub to be adjusted to fit all current and future width standards.

The Barometric Uni-Laterally Level Structured Horizontal Internal Tube (B.U.L.L.S.H.I.T.) forms the basis for our patented design. This unit is built into the central section of our iconic Pro2 hub and the user simply inflates it until the desired width is achieved. The hubs are designed to suit all frames from 130 to 200mm widths.

New hub from Hope

Inflated to a width of 200mm

One current restriction when using conventional spokes is that the wheel must be rebuilt if the hub width is altered, although we are also working on a new semi-elastic spoke which will allow for the widening of the flanges with changing spokes.

During the research we also discovered an additional benefit when installing this new hub. If the hub is inflated with helium we can also reduce to overall weight of the hub.

New hub from Hope

Sitting at a base width of 130mm

We see these new hubs as a genuine "fix all" solution to the current minefield that surrounds bicycle frame design.

Finally a company who actually listens to our requirement. We want something scalable! Maxxis you are up! give us something that can increase wheelsize by inflating more air.

I'm not sure if he knows......?

I hate april fools day on pinkbike...
  • 18 0
200 is not quite enough for me. I've heard sram are in the process of making a TSOOB 218.5 mm back hub, will this hub be adjustable to that length if I buy an extension kit?
  • 3 0
 Blahahahaha! Well done!

Only thing I care about is how loud the ratchet is!
  • 5 1
I think I have some of those "semi elastic "spokes in a box somewhere

Best April Fools post this year!!! Especially with that acronym & in light of the recent nonsense in the industry. Very well done Hope!

Making fun of the MTB industry is about as easy as making fun of religion, because the MTB industry is just about as stupid. Blank Stare

Ahhh, so where's your air valve Boost. Better get with it.

BOOST = Bunch Of Obvious Sales Tactics
  • 3 0
For real, have you guys heard? Schwalbe is testing a new rear tire called ProEnduro. They say It has mega traction on the way down, then on the way up it pushes out more tread for better roiling resistance. It has an onborad gyro so it knows how to configure the tread pattern. Only works with Procore 2.0 system.
  • 2 0
My wagon has the original procore 1.0 system. No flats since 1900! Yeehaw! Wink
  • 6 0
I hear DT Swiss is coming out with a similar idea, but they've managed to integrate the spokes and rim so one size really does fit all. The only catch is that they had to introduce a new valve standard to make it all work.
  • 74 7
 HOPE no one believes this.....
  • 16 1
You won't belive how high you will be able to jump after a local stoner inflates it

FYI a large portion of the world uses the 01.04 format. I prefer the 01APR2015 format for the lower risk of transposition and misinterpretation. Can you tell I was trained for ISO/FDA compliance hah.

 01.04.2015 , much like how you say it , 1st of April 2015 , not April 1st 2015

must be January 4th over here in 'Merica

Sorry @bigburd, this side of the pond we say April 1st. Not saying it's right or wrong, just what we say.

While we're at it we might as well start talking about the metric and standard systems too.
  • 11 0
canada is april 1st too yet we use metric.. measure height in inches, length in meters, weight in lbs and volume in liters.. gets confusing
  • 9 0
Yeah, but poutine. So it's all good.
  • 4 1
Wait all these variances in standards sounds quite familiar. Oh yeah, just like the forever "evolution" of MTB standards. There's still Hope though if I can simply add some helium to my hubs.
  • 18 0
I say to hell with the metric and imperial system.

Lets use the banana system !

Example : I cased it by three bananas

 @ therealme528 ... and most of you speak Francais ... non ?
  • 2 0
As always, there's a standard for this problem that makes perfect sense yet sees very little use: ISO 8601. 2015-04-01
  • 3 0
@ fedz nah its English for the most part other than Quebec and then every now and then there's a french village in the other provinces or someone who can speak a little
  • 1 0
 @ therealme528 - ah I see, thanks for explaining
  • 32 1
Hey maybe if you inflate it enough it'll look like a session. And if you look close enough I think the presta valve is kashima coated. I sure HOPE so.

"Barometric Uni-Laterally Level Structured Horizontal Internal Tube"
.
The entire Hope office brainstormed for 3 hours to come out with this
  • 23 0
 Hahahaha hope killing it!
  • 19 0
Even if it fits frames up to 200mm, somebody will come up with 205mm spacing. Wanna bet?
  • 7 0

  • 19 3
What an a-pawl-ing press-ta release, when they first spoke about this hub I thought they'd lost their bearings!
  • 17 1
Nothing more manly than blowing air in something and watching it expand to fulfill your needs Big Grin
  • 9 1
While spreading hub, the same spokes would cause wheel to compress....
Now get me an adjustable rim so I could switch between 26 and 27,5 wheels with just couple of pump strokes Smile

Nice AF Hope!
  • 11 1
Hope hubs with a boner! I love it! April turtles.
  • 10 2
Someone please tell me that this is true because I've just taken a crowbar to my bike to make it fit a 200mm hub and I've scratched the paint a bit.
  • 5 0
Ha ha love the fact that so many of the comments in this thread are serious! Next people will be believing that Schwalbe have released tyres made from old foreskins collected by rabbi's so that with a gentle stroking they will fit a multitude of different size rims.

Thank you PB & Hope for keeping April fools fun for another year.
  • 9 1
I want Fox to make a fork where you can infinitely adjust the travel by changing the air pressure. Oh wait...
  • 19 11
Can Hope install one of these systems to my dick.
  • 11 8
There is a ton of slang/innuendo words you could have chosen to use instead of that. You hail from the land of some of the best linguistic creativity too, I'm dissapointed.
  • 15 2
^^Clearly written by someone who hasn't spoken to your average Brit.
  • 7 3
Where do you draw that conclusion from? I was just complimented by a Brit for being able to comprehend his cockney accent and slang in conversation actually. I kinda thought I squeezed a compliment in there as you do have some great language unique to your region. I should have been more neutral and left country of origin out, but either way a plethora of words could have been used instead. My bad.

Great to see a company come with a fix for the mess that the big two have created. Or this could just be an April fools joke.
  • 2 0
Anyone else hear about the reverse April Fools day joke in NZ, where a BMW dealership said if you bring in your old car (no matter what it was), you'd get a brand new BMW 1 Series in return? Turns out someone did and they got themselves a brand new BMW 1 Series for keeps. Now if only a high end bike manufacturer did the same...

  • 5 0
So, am I special for actually, 100% believing this at first...?
  • 3 0
If it were real i would buy it, but even if it were real there would be a new standard a year later that was just a few mm longer then the max length of the bs hub
  • 3 0
"The Barometric Uni-Laterally Level Structured Horizontal Internal Tube" I need this.
  • 4 1
I was hoping for something more down to earth instead of this idea out of thin air.
  • 3 0
Actually, this product makes more sense than most of SRAM's proprietary hub offerings.
  • 2 0
This is good PB but I still think flipping the entire main page upside-down like you had in years past was top notch foolproof. :-)
  • 1 0
Genius! Even if these bad boys dont sell well Hope could market and sell them as high-end aluminum dildos. 13 to 20cm is just enough for every taste.

"...If the hub is inflated with helium we can also reduce to overall weight of the hub."

Wait, can we do this with our tires also?
  • 2 0
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not
  • 1 0
 Neither can I...!
  • 1 0
 i meant your comment
  • 1 0
I know. It was purposely meant to be cryptic.

I realize the story is a joke.
But I am also mildly curious how much lighter a wheel would be if filled with helium? I assume not much.
And I assume since the mass of the components wouldn't actually change there would be no improvement in suspension response speed. But still, it's entertaining to wonder about.

p.s. I broke my hand... so I have nothing better to do than wonder about crap.
  • 1 2
I'm surprised that the hub flanges don't expand to offset the difference is spoke size. There could be a cross-check valve that could allow for independent adjustment to allow for optional dish adjustment as per the preferred gearing. Maybe next year!
  • 3 0
 lol
  • 3 1
 Hahahahahahababah april fish

I take it there's only a few parts of the world that celebrate April Fools Day :O)
  • 1 3
I understand that air technology has improved vastly in the last few years. That said I still prefer the linear feel of a quality spring. I'm sure that a properly tuned spring would handle any flex ect. With a smoother, more planted feel.
  • 1 0
With the industry like these days one doesn't know if this is a joke or a serious statement. hehe
  • 1 0
hell yeah sure ..... +1000 for the atemp !!!!!

This hub is a cool idea. Maybe you can put spacers in it, instead of air. Or different spacers for the middle part of the hub. I know its a joke. But maybe it works in another way.
