Lapierre

Lapiere DH Team 2015 Interbike 2014

Lapierre's DH Team is a reality in North America. The French brand will bring in the DH Team, shown here, for $7900 and the DH 727 for $4800 USD. The Team model is outfitted with the same spec as Gravity Republic rides.

Lapiere DH Team 2015 Interbike 2014

The new DH Team leaves little to be desired, including a Ti spring and the most popular (and most blacked-out) tires on the World Cup circuit. Note the screw-on fork bumpers, dedicated mud guard, and seven-speed SRAM drivetrain.

Fox Head

Fox Head Hero Jerseys Interbike 2014

Fox Head hero jerseys Interbike 2014

Fox gave Interbike attendees a history lesson. Six championship jerseys were on display at their travelling museum. Anyone remember which victory each one celebrates?

Old Man Mountain chainsaw rack mount Interbike 2014

Old Man Mountain makes some of the sturdiest racks known to man, and now they offer a chainsaw mounting accessory that should make a lot of diggers happy.

X-Shield Interbike 2014

X-Shield is designed to be worn over existing eyewear, or by itself, to offer bug-free riding at Windham or Kettle Moraine, and during the winter for fatbike epics. The stylish "Freedom" full face model (right) is for helmetless riders, while the "Enduro" on the left is for half-shell wearers who don't want to be encumbered by goggles. Both come in ventilated and non-ventilated configurations, and tinted or clear options. The Enduro may be a comfortable choice for chainsaw operators, as it will fit under a hat, or a half-shell helmet.

The Robert Axle Project Interbike 2014

The Robert Axle Project addresses many issues that arose after the industry converted to through-axle rear hubs. He makes an axle to fit just about every axle-mount trailer and rack system made. Another great resource for diggers.

Full Speed Ahead

FSA Gradient FR Enduro range Interbike 2014

Gravity's AM/enduro range is called "Gradient" and it features two styles of handlebars in carbon, a new stem in four lengths and a carbon crankset that can be configured as a single or a double. No dropper post... Yet.

FSA Force brakes and replacement kits Interbike 2014

FSA's new Force disc brake is now fully supported, with replacement parts kits, bleed kits and shop tools, all in stock. FSA also has launched a number of video tutorials to help shops and customers understand every step of the setup and bleeding process.

Pivot Mach 475 Carbon Interbike 2014

We asked Pivot founder Chris Cocalis which bike was attracting the most attention and he said it was a split between the XC/trail Mach 4 and the Phoenix carbon DH racer. Now, there's a spread. The carbon framed dw-Link Mach 4 rolls on 27.5-inch wheels and this one was sporting the rarest component group in the world: a fully functioning Shimano XTR Di2 drivetrain. The 115-millimeter-travel Mach 4 can be as light as 10 kg (22 pounds) and if you balk at the MSRP of the Di2 version, Pivot offers eleven build kits that bring the XC/trail screamer dangerously close to being affordable.

Sugino computer mount Interbike 2014

Sugino's beautifully machined handlebar extension for bar-mounted electronic devices.

Dianese convertible back protection pack Interbike 2014

Dainese showed the Pro Pack - a back protector/hydration pack that can be unzipped to slim it down for DH use. Together, the pack is large enough to bring food, tools and warm clothes for epic rides. Unzipped, it offers a protector and a bladder with minimal storage. The protector on the far right is a separate item, used to illustrate what's inside of the pack. Straps on the bottom hold pads and a clip-on stretch pad holds either a full face or a half shell helmet for enduro competition.

Connex chain interbike 2014

Connex says that its eleven speed chain is right around the corner. One of the best made chains in the business, Connex also pioneered the mechanical, removable chain link - which remains the most reliable of its kind. To give you an idea of the magnitude of the task, imagine making a machine that can sort chain links from a big bin, and then feed them by the thousands with the printing and chamfers facing the correct direction - no mistakes allowed. That's just one step in the process. Chain engineers are members of a secret order of holy power nerds.

Brooks

Brooks pannier bags Interbike 2014

Brooks may not make much for mountain biking, but their bags and accessories are show-stoppers nonetheless.

Brook Saddles interbike 2014

Brooks recently perfected a method to vulcanize natural, hand-mixed, gum rubber to organic cotton canvas in order to produce this durable and comfortable saddle. The $150 "Canbium's" rails are hollow alloy steel and the end-plates are aluminum. Brooks retains the classic rivets of their original leather "Professional" model, from which the term, "On the rivet" was coined.

oneup interbike 2014

The three founder of BC's OneUp Components, holding their original and latest products: Chris Heynen (left) and Sam Richards with their new narrow-wide chainrings, and Jon Staples with their now-famous green, 42-tooth cassette cog.

Replay POV camera Interbike 2014

The Prime-X POV camera is billed as a professional tool. Reportedly it has a three-hour run time, can shoot 60 frames per second at 1080 pixels, can be hooked up to a remote mic, weighs only 3.5 ounces and is wifi compatible. The camera is less than three inches long and less than an inch in diameter, which means that it can be used in a lot of locations and situations where a boxy GoPro may prove to be cumbersome

OSMO women-specific energy drinks Interbike 2014

Osmo makes a line of proven charge-up and recovery fluids. They just launched a women's specific range, claiming their research showed that, among other ingredients, females need up to six percent more sodium and potassium. Presently, Osmo offers pre and post ride formulas. Their launch bottle says it all.

Sombrio

Sombrio Interbike 2014

Cycling Sports Group PR Manager Sofia Whitcombe (left) and Sombrio Marketing Coordinator Ashley Turk ran PB through their new lineup. Ashley says that Sombrio actually reduced the size of its range in order to refocus on its original mission - to supply top riders with technical gear, comfortably styled for gravity and all-mountain lifestyles.

sombrio interbike 2014

Colorways range from bright to subdued and Sombrio tastefully matched its accessories so riders can mix and match from its Epic, Freeride or Gravity ensembles. Shown here is Sombrio's Freeride kit: Realto Jersey - $65, Pinner short - $120 and Prodigy gloves - $35. The DH Charger short (upper right) is cut slightly wider, and it is an inch shorter than the freeride model to fit DH-sized pads. Gloves are made for all three categories. (clockwise) The Spun XC/trail model - $30, Prodigy FR model - $35, and the Cartel DH glove - $45.

sombrio interbike 2014

My favorite is the Prodigy. The fit is snug and super flexible, and there is a lot of protection built in, without resorting to stiff, rubberized armor.

Fatbike adapter for Rockymounts carrriers interbike 2014

Rockymounts Brass Knuckles roof-top rack and bike carrier system now offers the Fattie fatbike upgrade kit. The 20-dollar option includes a wider tire catch bar and also a pair of extensions that extend the ratcheting cinch buckles.

DT Swiss 150mm OPM fork Interbike 2014

DT Swiss is expanding its suspension lineup. We first saw the 150-millimeter OPM fork in France. The lowers are one-piece magnesium and the stanchions and crown are aluminum. Two damping cartridges are available: the ODL, which stands for 'Open, Drive and Lockout,' and the more popular OL XC version that has only 'Open and Locked' settings. Other options include manual or cable-actuated-remote controls for the damping features. Weight is reported at 1630 grams for the OPM version and prices are $1159 for the OPM model, and $829 for the OL version.

WTB Rocket Saddle range Interbike 2014

Wilderness Trail Bikes has had its saddle demo program in place for a number of years. WTB makes a special line of test saddles which have the best padding, but are mated to its least expensive steel-rail chassis. Customers can borrow a saddle from a WTB dealer and put it to the bum for a ride or two before committing to a purchase. When that day arrives, he or she can choose from up to four price points and two different widths in most models. Colors, or lack thereof, stratify the levels. Black with gold graphics means it's a Team model with carbon rails. Black only is a Pro model with Titanium rails and white is the Race saddle with steel rails. Yellow graphics mark the test models.

Reynolds

Rob Aguero Reynolds Interbike 2014

Rob Aguero, director of sales and marketing at Reynolds was showing off his Black Label AM wheelsets. Pivot cycles just started spec'ing them on its XC/trail builds.

Reeynolds Black Label 275 wheels Interbike 2014

Black label wheels use Reynolds' 23mm inner-dimension AM carbon rim, laced to DT Swiss 240 hubs, with DT Swiss Aerolite spokes. Weight for the 27.5 AM is 1528 grams and the price is $2400 USD.

sella san marco interbike 2014

San Marco of Italy's retro saddle collection will soon be seen on hipster and custom rides throughout North America. It has to be so.

Fudel belt interbike 2014

Mike Levy's take on enduro fashion has filtered down to the boardwalk. The Fuel Belt has all the accessories to get you through life's most challenging stages.

LP custom tents Interbike 2014

LP Tents makes everything from inflatable displays to circus-sized tents for special events - and everything in between. On display, were samples of hardware and accessories used in the craft, including inflatable furniture.

That chainsaw powered bike was the first thing I thought of when I saw the chainsaw rack.

When are they going to start making gun racks for bikes? If we are getting ready for the zombie Apocalypse with chainsaw-ready bikes, I need to be able to strap an AR to my bike and a couple Glocks for bar-ends. Oh, and a bullet proof face shield. Definitely need that.

A: One rides and the other gets ridden.

I actually met ol boy about 18 or 19 years ago while stranded on bouquet canyon road on my way home from the 5 deer trail. He stopped and was in a national lampoons type wagon car. He gave me a tube or a tire lever or something and got me on my way. I didn't know he was the editor for MBA until a few months later. I was still new to MTB and wasn't a regular MBA reader then like I am now. That was also back when the 5 deer trail was awesome. Rode it a few years ago while out visiting my mom and it was overgrown and pitiful. He saved me a lot of walking, thanks Richard, done know if you remember that.

It's the end of Interbike, you're in Vegas and you're now broke. Your face is 6 inches from a cock. Do what you gotta do.
  • 12 0
I'm not necessarily against that face shield, especially when using a chainsaw. I kind of even like the idea of eye protection built into helmets. But that thing is weird. And what exactly happens to your neck if you fall on it? Instead of messing up your face it cuts your head off?

How come only Ragot actually used the new Lapierre this season? All the blokes stuck with the old bike
  • 8 1
The rumor has it it's a sizing issue - they don't get a long with the new frame. I think Lorris rode the new one in the last couple of months.
  • 5 0
Ragot and Loris used the new one. And Hafjell was the last time with the old bike for bruni and blenki.
  • 7 4
Doesn't look good though if the team riders refuse to use it
  • 5 1
Or they need time to get the feel of it and dial it in. A new bike on a World Cup DH course with not much set up time does not sound fun.
  • 6 1
It's an ali frame, they are the teams top pro riders and Lapierre, although perhaps not huge are not exactly a tiny company either. Do you really believe they couldn't just get a slightly bigger frame made up? Sounds fishy to me.
  • 5 0
 Gwin and Troy did it..
  • 7 1
it's more about their sizes not being ready for racing. There were some issues with the first bikes in the larger sizes to come out but they got them sorted for production timeline, but were too late for the race season.
  • 1 0
 You got a point there.
  • 3 2
Surely the sizing would be the first thing to get done right during R&D. And R&D normally includes team riders testing\racing the prototype product.
What it looks like happened is the new bike went straight from design to manufacture - without any R&D/testing and the team riders hated it.
  • 3 0
Oh ye, maybe I was wrong with the they don't get along with it part. Can be that their size just not availble. Anyways it seemed to work fine for Raggot and Lorris so..sry Lapierre. Razz

Btw by far my favorite team!
  • 9 0
Lapierre's team riders were in on the bike's development from the start. Nico said that they wanted a slight change in the linkage rates, which has been done, so I think Blenki and Bruni wanted to stick with what they knew best through the end of the season. Loris and Ragot had great resullts on both tech and pedaling courses, so it must work well. We shall see.
  • 1 0
Could well be I suppose. I have always thought how dialled your setup is and how accustomed to it you are, to be far more important than exactly which bike you are riding (assuming the bike is up to a certain standard, that they pretty much all achieve nowadays)

If that is the case, its good to see our sport isn't totally ruled by the dollar just yet Smile
  • 2 1
I don't see any other team riders racing last year's bike. Unconvinced of Manchester

dunno. is "bonk" another word for boner? maybe it could imply that you have enough to worry about on a bike without popping a woody in your spandex. maybe it contains an anti-boner additive? and are girls really not small men? who knew? not the most brilliant marketing gimmick but strangely informative if true.
  • 2 0
Nah mate, Bonk is another word for Root.

Prime X is "Billed as"....? Uh guys, you know that Ion already makes a camera, same size, that fits where a "Bulky" Gopro may not... Wink Nice plug, but that's a camera that was supposed to be on the market back in may, and STILL isn't available. Now with Shimano entering the market, that's even less reason to consider a tiny manufacturer with no product, dealer set up or even distribution. Do our Pink bike brothers proud and "Steer" them clear of products like this that have already lost before they have started, especially when there are so many other camera's out there that do more and won't be a heartbreak down the line!!
  • 6 1
Rc&rooster- what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas
  • 2 1
That facemask thing seems like a step in the right direction. What if they did a full face helmet where the visor and chin-thing were made out of clear plastic?

The only issue I can think of is an obvious one: it will fog up easily, but if you consider that NFL players have those glass facemasks, there must be a pretty good way to prevent fog. In other words... this is the future.
  • 2 0
My friend tried it with his motorcycle helmet he uses with his dual sport and it fogged up ridiculously
  • 1 0
Right, but a motorcycle helmet isn't exactly designed for heavy breathing.
  • 1 0
shoei makes that helmet. no fog. just look like a douche in it.

I live in Vegas and got into the show the last day. The NORCO DH bikes looked really nice for the pricing.I spoke to one of the designers and he explained how the front and rear of the frames are sized accordingly unlike a lot of builders who only size the main frame. I have never ridden one so any input from an owner would be appreciated.

Fat bikes ,,are they the new Enduro ?
  • 6 3
People who think 'enduro' is overplayed must not live near anyone who rides fadbikes.

Last winter, it really jumped the shark. On a thrice weekly basis, you could hear/read: "We're going to do some fatbiking on some sweet fatbike trails", "join us on a fat-friendly ride", "perfect fat conditions today"

It's as if they preface every word with 'fat'. I have rarely heard anyone use 'enduro' unless just to take the piss.
