Ja'mmy Jam 2009

Nov 6, 2009

Berthoud, CO. - 80 pounds of grilled goodness, 470 PBR's, and too many riders & friends to count. The 2009 J'ammy Jam rocked! So the way that all of us that were there see it, if you weren't there... you missed out!

The question isn’t what were you doing this past Saturday, the question is why weren’t you at this year’s J’ammy Jam?

As I rolled across Colorado, the high country was getting pounded with rain and snow. Once I got closer to Berthoud Colorado it was all blue skies and mild temperatures. Personally, I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday, hanging out at the Donahugh house with a load of ripping dirt jumpers. Jamming’ out, eating great food and enjoying cold beverages, all in the backyard of Jimmy and Tammy Donahugh.

As the riding began to heat up, so did the grill. “Grill Guy” laid down an impressive spread, grilling over 80 pounds of brats, chicken and salmon. If that wasn’t enough for you, Pabst brought a truck full of ice cold PBR for a wash down. The entire scene at the Donahugh house looked more like a huge kids birthday party than anything else. Riders were all over the place. The mini pipe was railing, the jump line ripping and the tramp bike never got a rest all day.

Riders from all over the Front Range and Colorado flocked to Berthoud to enjoy a day of riding and hanging with new and old friends. The vibe going around the entire place could only make you smile, and the riding sent out cheers from the crowd for the entire neighborhood to hear. Even the neighborhood dogs had to see what all the excitement was about.

As the sun started to drop, the lights got fired up. Not only do the Donahughs have an amazing jump line in their yard, they also have an extensive lighting system of work lights to allow the riding to go well into the night. It seemed like the action was never going to slow down.

Once the sun had fully set, the shovels and TP came out. TP? That’s right! Toilet paper was the high jump maker for this contest. The first few riders to take flight made it obvious that the bar must be raised to the point that taller mark holders had to be brought in. Andy Sweet and Destry Williams ended up with the highest jumps well over ten feet off the deck.

At the end of the day as I rolled away from the Donahugh’s house all I could think about was, “When can I come back?” Special thanks to everyone that made this event happen, especially Tammy and Jimmy Donahugh for opening up their home to a load of riders. And we can’t forget “Grill Guy”, thank you for filling all of our stomachs all day long!

It was a bike party like no other.

Jimmy and Tammy Donahugh are 2 A+ people, rode with them on the Bear Dance trail in Montana, on their way to Goat Style. Tammy is the smoothest rider I've ever had the pleasure to follow! Oh by-the-way Tammy won Slope Sistairs this year. CONGRATS!!!
