i dont think he slipped the pedals, they showed it in slow mo on the full show yesterday and he clearly lands with both feet on the pedals and then takes his feet off.
Yeah he clearly took his foot off to slow himself down before hitting the giant crash pad going mach speed. But I have a feeling the judges would still dock points for that!
I agree. I don't think its the kind of trick they will ever have on lock down just due to how massive it is with the height and the force of those rotations. You saw it if you watched the full show yesterday. Anytime they didn't land it was almost guaranteed serious injury. I just don't think they would ever be able to practice it enough to really lock it down without destroying themselves.
Thats what everyone said about the single and double flip and now look...not saying people are going to be landing quads in comps anytime soon (or even triples) but maybe someday
I don't see it. Those tricks were very progressive when they were first dine but the level of danger was not nearly the same. As crazy as those tricks seemed at the time guys were not sending themselves to the hospital on almost every failed attempt. I just think this one is too hard core to ever become common place. On top of that the setup they required to throw the trick was unique in itself and pretty specific to that particular trick, with the huge roll in, super steep kicker etc. You won't see such a setup in contests or anywhere else.
Flips and Double Flips could be done on pretty "standard" setups from the very first successful attempt. Triple Flips already need a very specialized type of ramp and landing, if you want to have a realistic chance of landing it. Quad Flips: look at the obvious.
Fackin' naysayers. We got guys now 3in' 70's. Give it time dumb dumbs. The trip flip was done on a pretty standard lookin' hit to wood just with a big enough roll-in for the speed. Mountain a big enough roll-in for ya?
Eventually some Roguekidish beast will need something more & this will be one of those simple, crude, basic & totally inelegant answers to a complex & ever-evolving problem.
Adding another spin doesn't make a brainless circus trick anything else besides a brainless circus trick. Good to do for the sake of doing it, all progress is good progress, but it still is what it is. I'd rather see a cordova flip, decade flip, bike flip flip or something else with some class. This is just straight up hyped up fvckin' slutty.
Oh yeah, I forgot we also got dudes backin' & frontin' 4' flats & there's a bruh in a fvckin' wheelchair (Aaron Fotheringham) sendin' double backs for Nitro so just because a first timer made something look like a struggle the FIRST time, doesn't mean it'll always be that way. When someone decides to go for a quint, the quad will be to it as the trip to the quad & the dub to the trip etc. How many times do those gnarly aerial skiers flip & spin off those crazy step-downs routinely in competition? 40'-50' high triple flippin' quad spinnin' dirty assed gnarness with BMX skid lids on! They land on snow but it's hard groomed shit, just wearin' skid lids. There's a limit to everything, but straight up quad flips ain't it for bikes. 4 spins maybe, but 4 backflips, no.
@choppertank3e so many people.Logan Martin did it with barspin in a best trick, someone did it with tuck nohander (Todd Meyn maybe, google it),in Russia Irek Rizaev did 1080 in best trick too. Also, Alex Coleborn might be landed it and few more guys..
There has been so many people to do it in competition. I think the smallest ramp a 1080 has ever been done on was Todd Meyn doing it on a 6 foot skatepark spine. Fox basically got around the 1440 on a box jump but his arse got sucked in by the rear tire and he slammed.
big props to james foster for his dedication, im gutted for him yet stoked for jed too. i cant believe how many times he broke himself trying this and just kept going for it.
Gut's, brave, crazy, change that evil Knievel would say hell yah! Now do it in Las Vegas over a fountain! Oh shit!, don't run with that I don't want to be responsible!
This is not biking, more like "stunting". I don't know. Just not biking. This is also the reason you didn't know who this rider was when you opened the post. He's more like an acrobat with a bike attached.
That's where you're wrong James foster has been around BMX for years as well as Jed Mildon. These aren't just acrobats here they're legit riders that have been in the game for years. They might not have the clout and XGames medals like Mirra or Nyquist but they are known in BMX circles.
I agree, this trick is more of a stunt than "biking". This took a unique setup and alot of work just to pull off one trick. Its not something that you will ever see in a competition. But that doesn't mean its not awesome. And as someone pointed out, these guys are legit riders, even if they aren't as well known as the guys who make the contest circuit.
Looks like I successfully landed in the "Below threshold threads are visible" box! Like being in a hockey penalty box. Anyway, thanks guys for your comments. I still think you guys who actually know who these BMX guys are a minority. And that's not even the main point. And you know it. I still stand my ground on the "acrobat with a bike attached" comment. I mean, who can argue with such poetry. Haha.
Its not how I spend my time (i.e. I'm too old and don't have the skills), but its hard to deny the skill, focus, and guts involved in trying to pull this off. The over-dramatization of presentation doesn't do it any favours, but it is hard to deny the impressiveness of the feat itself.
@WasatchEnduro Well regardless being negative like that isn't making you an overall better person. I thought the point of this whole biking thing was to exercise and have fun? People have different ways to use a bike to have fun and you should respect that.

Guts yes, brains no.
Redneck is a state of mind, not (just) an indicator of origin.... but I guess that makes him a New Zealand redneck then.
