No matter what people say, it’s not about the size. Because at the end of the day it’s never about numbers. It’s about the rad time you had. Go for the all new Jeffsy 27 or its big brother Jeffsy 29. Whatever wheel size you believe in: Size doesn’t matter – it’s what you do with it.

Riders: Ace Hayden and Bryan Regnier

If wheelsize doesn't matter then why make a different wheelsize version of an existing bike?
  • 115 25
You're missing the point. It's not that they're the same or that someone might not prefer one over the other, it's that one isn't inherently better than the other.

The looser a trail is the bigger equipment you need. Riding a 27 down a huge piece of double track is like throwing a hot dog down a hallway.
  • 68 1
@kubaner: yea, you NEED a 36 for that shit.
  • 15 6
@BiNARYBiKE: But that's not true. There is a place for both wheelsizes. Situations where each IS inherently better than the other.
  • 16 4
Probably the same reason bikes have different colors and build options. It's called "variety".
  • 3 1
@kubaner: that philosophy has multiple applications in life
  • 12 1
@TheRaven: I disagree. Factors like rider size, riding style, and riding intent all make it near impossible to declare an overall winner in any given situation. Maybe if you qualify it with specific demands such as fastest, funnest, easiest to throw around... but even then it will vary from rider to rider. In any case, your point aids my argument that there is a reason for YT to make this bike in two wheel sizes.
  • 6 0
@BiNARYBiKE: That's not what I was arguing. I agree with your overall point. But you can't say that one isn't inherently better than the other as a blanket statement. You could say that neither are overall better, but there's no question that a 29 is better at some things than 27 and that 27 is better at some things than 29. This is completely independent of rider. But what I agree with you on is that both sizes have a purpose, and both sizes will remain popular to different riders who prioritize different aspects of riding differently.

@TheRaven: 29ers do not have purpose. long live 26
  • 11 0
So you can moan about it on pinkbike, and people can write 26 for eva, why else?
  • 14 4
@Racerxd: OOOHHHHH I remember 26. I had a Huffy in grade school that had 26" wheels. Oh the memories.

Guess you guys aren't as sharp as I thought.
Dick jokes too complex for you?
  • 3 1
you pretty much stole the comment i was gonna write. glad somebody else noticed the irony Smile
  • 3 0
@TheRaven: @BiNARYBiKE: If there aren't any differences; So what you are saying is that 26" is dead because bike companies wanted to bring in a new standard to make more monies?
  • 2 0
@BiNARYBiKE: if it`s not better and no different. why is the question comes to my mind Smile
  • 1 0
@abzillah: Yes, that is correct. In the case of 27" wheels anyway. I mean i'm not saying there is NO difference, but I would agree that it's a zero-sum "upgrade".
  • 4 0
I too find the tag line confusing. In the bigger picture it doesn't matter...but to each individual rider, it does. Everyone that reads this ad campaign is an individual....looking at a specific product, for them, cuz it matters. If YT is just saying they don't care which one you buy, as long as you buy one...then ya, it doesn't matter...to them...haha
  • 1 0
 @TheRaven: Agreed. Cheers.
  • 1 0
@abzillah: @abzillah: There are differences. But one isn't inherently superior to the other overall. I'm not debating 26, but 26 has it's place too. I think different sizes exist for performance gains and to make more money off new standards.
  • 1 0
@linask24: It is better/worse to individual riders in individual conditions. Never said they weren't different.
  • 3 0
@loopie: You nailed it, it's a shoddy marketing tagline. Something like "take your pick" would work better, judging by the debate this one has caused!
  • 1 0
@Racer951: Give it a few years,26 will be cool again and so retro. Then they get to make more movies, ads and whatnot and start the whole marketing and money making process over again.
  • 2 0
If they can throw on 27.5" wheels on a trail bike designed specifically around 29" wheels, then they just proved the point that this industry is a scam and the wheel sizes is bs
  • 1 0
 @BiNARYBiKE: You missed the point.
  • 1 0
 Exactly!!
  • 1 1
@Trials-FTW: I like how they are calling it "27" rather than "27.5".

Hopefully everyone else gets on the bandwagon. We don't need two names for it, and I believe it's closer to 27" than 27.5" anyway, is that right?

650b is a bit pretentious too.

I say, 27 should stick
  • 3 0
You make another size to see if it matters :p
  • 1 0
 Because a 29er doesn't fit in a small hatchback.
  • 123 9
where is the 26er if size doesn't matter.
  • 11 1
You just need to run a 1" skinny tyre to get it down to the size of a bulbous 26er. Don't know what everyone is whinging about.

  • 19 1
@b45her: @b45her: Is that some kind of snobbery where you think YT are a lesser company to the other guys that do exactly the same thing but nobody says a bad word about like Intense, Yeti, Santa Cruz etc?

The YT frames are exclusive to them, geometry and suspension exclusive to them, they sponsor teams and riders in various genres of riding and push a huge range of various specifications of bike out to the consumer for almost half the price of the names above.

Why so ignorant?
  • 6 5
@Racer951: @Racer951: No one says a bad word about Intense, Yeti and Santa Cruz? You must be new to these parts.
  • 1 4

The ironic thing is, Santa Cruz in made in China, and YT is made in Taiwan. Saying YT is made in China is like saying Donald Trump is Canadian. Or Mexican.

  • 33 11
A little bit awkward when your 'new' 27" bike is being left for dust by the old 29" throughout the first half of the video...

The Capra is meant to climb that well, so much so that it could be used as an XC bike (well, according to nearly every review out there about them). Surely this makes a 27" Jeffsy with 160mm travel completely redundant? I think YT may have missed a trick here. It seems they are only catering for the anti-29er clan. The ignorant individuals who won't ride a 29" because they're 'not cool' need to get a grip of themselves.
  • 11 3
exactly what I was thinking.... left for dust
  • 9 1
or maybe a lot of riders just prefer the other size, and aren't basing their expensive choice on such scientific logic as the perceived speed difference of two unequal riders in a YT video. Maybe all the past EWS series winners are just anti-29 clan guys too! lol. It's all a conspiracy!
  • 12 1
Couldn't have anything to do with the rider on the bike being better, could it?.... naah suppose not.

The Capra uses a 170mm fork, slacker geometry, weighs more and may have different kinematics to the Jeffsy - Its the old Bronson V Nomad argument and it probably does render the Capra redundant for many riders which may be exactly what they are happy to see.
  • 4 0
@Racer951: also gets all those capra owners thinking about a new bike....
  • 3 0
@graeme187: I suppose possibly, but they do still make the Capra and its no different to what most of the other manufacturers do every few years by updating a bike / bringing out a new model.

I think one of the 'problems' with the bike industry on a whole is how fickle manufacturers and customers are, every month the manufacturer will bring out a new bike, standard, geometry fad which makes the customer feel like their bike is now outdated scrap and must be replaced.

At least if you are that insecure YT wont take as much money from you as the other guys!
  • 2 0
@racer951 @graeme187: No way would I trade in my 160mm Capra for one of those
  • 1 0
@Racer951: if I ever get a YT it's going to be the Capra definitely!!! Jeffsy just lacks some guts I think!!!
  • 1 0
@DigRenno: I also fail to see the point... unless there is going to be a new Capra with 180/180 in the next year
  • 1 0
@endlessblockades: Not you perhaps, but there are plenty of people who bought into the capra and know they are overbiked - they now like the brand and are thining as @Racer951 says that their bike would be better with 10mm less travel and it's now redundant because this new jeffsy27 is 10mm in the top tube... just saying maybe not you, but that's the current marketing trend.
  • 1 0
@graeme187: I will give credit the top spec'd Jeffsy 27 would be really nice after rethinking abit!!! Smile
  • 12 0
Damn, I almost thought they introduced a new 27" wheel size standard. Because 27.5" is for Capra and 26" is for Lacondeguy.
  • 10 0
The best bike is that one that makes you feel like your riding like the very best ones out there. That's it. Size doesn't matter.

  • 6 2
Ripper bikes too - my boys alloy Jeffsy is amazeballs, comparing to a dialed hightower C w/ Fox 36. The YT suspension is on point and it pedals at least as good.

As far as post sale homie had the opposite experience; he had a rear pivot bolt come out (hes from BmX, didnt know to check 'em) and they shipped him some trouble free.

Also, they pay for Gwin. So that.
  • 7 0
I wonder if YT can tell my Mrs that too...
  • 8 1

"size doesn't matter" - bike industry. "Why can't we have 26" wheels then?" - Bikers. "Oh cause that size isn't effective."- bike industry. BOI. yall just said it's how you use the wheel and the size doesn't matter! Give me back my 26ers!
Don't listen to me though im just a triggered freerider.
  • 3 1
Why make it in two sizes? The market dictates what wheel to build around and for now both are needed in their line up. Some are using one model avail in both wheel so and others like Yeti have a specific frame for each bike. Trek now has their Slash 29er and the Remedy 27.5. Sales dept will point the direction they need to be goin "trend" wise. That being said I am still 26ing on a SB66c with a big smile on every ride. May try a 29er this season as I have the means to buy what ever I want.....but I measure my bikes performance by how big a ride smile it puts on face not by anything else.....and no I don't f around with strava type stuff as that not why I ride....after 30yrs on Mbikes I measure how high/smiley/ each trail/ride makes me feel....then repeat asap. I gotta go now and try and find some 26er tires to order online ....seems the LBS no longer has much of a selection lol.
  • 6 4
Usually the bigger the truck, and the bigger the tires on that truck, the smaller the penis size according to psychologists. A need to compensate for lack of size. I wonder if this applies to 29ers? I'll assume all those thumbing me down will be those with a small penis.

  • 3 0
If wheel size doesn't matter, then why do I want a 26" one over the two gooftard sizes? Ô.o
  • 1 0
Stepping on the wheel to get a leg up...... Somebody help Ace out. Maybe get him a step ladder or tell him it's ok to put your foot on the tire. Better line choice next time. Hahaha
  • 3 3
Rather than having two of the same bikes with different wheelsizes, they should have just made their 29er version 25.7+ compatible. Another reason why the Hightower is still a better bike IMHO.
  • 4 2
You could buy a decently specced 29 and 27.5 Jeffsy in the UK for the price of one Hightower though, and not everybody wants to use huge, heavy, flexy plus size tyres.
