In a world where everybody is online 24/7, connected to everyone anywhere in the world and your bike has more USB ports than your notebook 'offline moments' are priceless. Everything is online and shared quicker than a blink of an eye. If you start thinking about your plans for your vacation trip you get thousands of information, dos and dont's. The question is: what do you actually need to get your head off things by having fun and a good time?
- A freeride biking trip with close friends never fails to deliver -
This undertaking for us was simple - just pick an area, grab the essentials (the less technology the better) and hit the road. The first half of March is not the ideal time riding in the alps or elsewhere with too high altitude or far north. We had always been talking about visiting Southern France and this year it finally happened. We planned on starting with Terre Noir aka "Blackhills" and then moving on to the other areas within the Provence.
The pack is on the roadThat black dirt turned out to be an almost perfect camping and riding spot so we decided to stay there for the whole trip. Even though it was not too far from civilization we didn't have cell service and we didn't bring our laptop or similar devices. Down to the basics and all about riding the goods as much as possible. Within a few days we got used to this pretty intimidating landscape and terrain - on the first day we were kinda scared just hiking around and some of these lines looked pretty gnarly but step by step we've checked out a lot of different airs and chutes and the confidence level got higher every day.
Veggies One important thing: always check your fuel! The south of France welcomes you - Bonjour ! There is one rule left: no dig, no ride. You remember? Tasty breakfast. Before eying up the stunts.Cool looking cliff. Those few days weren't just the perfect start to the 2016 biking season for us, it was also all about getting away from the hectic daily routine and back to the basics. We never mind having an epic backdrop, though.
