It is becoming harder and harder to create an authentic, original bike movie. The goal for Keep it Real was to create a movie filmed primarily on Super 16mm film and paired with music to compliment the segments. It will remind people that riding bikes is the realest experience you can have.

For Press

Created by Andrew Young, Keep it Real stars (in order of appearance) Stephane Pelletier, Jarrett Moore, Corbin Selfe, Noah Brousseau, Darcy Peters, Liam Wallace, Matt Macduff, J.P. Maffret and Reilly Horan.

MENTIONS: @andrewyoung / @stephanepelletier / @JarrettM / @corbinselfe / @noahbbrousseau / @liam-wallace / @mattmacduff / @jmaffret / @ReillyHoran

My internet is so slow I don't see the difference. To me every video is filmed with a nokia 3310.

I'm with you there... 240p everything

X-mas Tip of the Day: use firefox & videodownloadhelper...snags clips to your comp for personal viewing, no buffering Smile
  • 7 1
hahaha there's no camera on the nokia 3310 ^^

Filmed in 16mm, because hipsters.. Seriously though, super awesome riding and a cool concept, brightened an otherwise windy and dull 24th. Merry Christmas Pinkbikers!!

 I rate it 5/7

  • 33 1
awesome that got me through the last pointless hour of work - although my boss came up behind me and said "too much slow mo"

Matt's story at the start of his segment was hilarious! "Hey Bob I heard you can fix anything." I was dying when they showed the "fixed" frame!
  • 4 0
Yeah, that was such a disaster. If he took it to the right place in Calgary (somewhere like a machining\welding shop), it could have been fixed properly.
  • 9 0
 That stair gap was insane.
  • 2 0
Yeah exactly Kramz, not surprised, never trust a backyard mechanic. That's why welding is a profession that takes 3 years to be certified, and constant testing afterwards.

 11/10
Features Matt MacDuff.

What is wrong with our industry that Matt M only has one frame and a film maker like Andrew has to work odd jobs to pay for our free film. Step it up here corp. By the way my gf was trying to destract me with sex and i pushed her away to finish watching this.

this screams "KILLER!", from start to end. everything about this is way better than most videos i have seen on pb in a long time. all of a sudden is slowmo cool? - is it the fact that it is done mostly with 16mm film with that scratchy, raw & gritty feeling? or is it that the soundtrack(s) fit so well throughout the whole thing that kept us stoked? i don't know, all i can say is this is an extremely well done piece. this stokes my christmas eve SOO MUCH!! thank you @andrewyoung & pb, for keeping it real!

Man, you just made my day, such awesome feedback thanks man!

I felt the same way, reminded me of the old BMX vids from the early 2000's I used to watch, I had a good one from Poverty (Dans Comp brand) that felt very similar. They had soul, and the love of riding really shown through, very similar vibes. Rare feeling from a mountain bike video these days in which over production is a virtue.

When can we buy it on VHS?
  • 7 0
 Thats too high tech man
  • 6 0
I can fix anything. Hahahaha. I coulda welded it better myself. Merry xmas. Great video now it's time to go ride
  • 7 1
Well done! I'll never understand the brakeless thing, though. Kids these days...
  • 6 1
you really don't need brakes if you're not riding trails/dh. i have a brake only cause my parents make me run one, and i never actually use it.
  • 3 0
Oh, I know. I was once a young street rider/dirt jumper too. Being able to stop quickly is pretty neat, though.

Am I the only one seeing it ironic that a video named "keep it real" is 50% slomo? The riding was rad and the soudtrack was refreshing, but the editing style reads more like an anthill product than something "different". A for effort on filming in analog, though, a small fortune must have been sacrificed to process all that film.
  • 12 0
Between rentals, film stock, processing and transfer, the choice to shoot on film was roughly a $8000 addition to the budget of the project. Lots of odd jobs between filming helped me fund this project. Slow mo isn't for everyone and I get that, kind of just how the final product ended up being though!
  • 5 0
With riding like this, there is always a place for slow mo... Its important to be able to see tricks slowly to understand how they are done. I have nothing but possitive things to say about this film - reminds me of the videos that inspired me to ride in the beginning, so thankyou Smile
  • 10 0
You've just watched 45 mins of awesome riding for FREE and you're complaining about the slowmo?
