Who the hell is Josh Gleave? Well, he's a farmer from Cheshire in the UK and the first thing he said to me was that he'd been 'playing with nipples' – or milking cows if you didn't connect the dots. He's the type of guy that goes to pick up girls in his tractor. It turns out he's an absolute don at his local trails of Delamere Forest, and his cornering is something of a spectacle.

The perfect roll-in to natural catch back. www.facebook.com caldwellvisuals

The perfect roll-in to catch bank. Delamere is a perfect playground in the mostly pan-flat Cheshire. I'm actually tempted to bottle the loam and export it, anybody keen?

Who remembers the section from Earthed 3 where Peaty and Nigel Page were ripping on hardtails? Yeah, well that's our local - Delamere Forest. It fell into somewhat of disregard over recent years as people lost the faith, but as of now the revival is on. Josh, who lives right on the edge of the forest, is here to show you what you're missing. Bucket loads of potentially savage loam corners waiting to be ripped, alongside all the classic gaps and rock hard berms that were railed by Peaty and the boys years before.

His bike mini spade and the outdoors. Loves it does Mr. Gleave. www.facebook.com caldwellvisuals

He's a real country boy is Josh. His bike, his mini spade and a few caves to climb in and he's happy as a pig in poop. Hold on tight, Josh doesn't hang around.

I've been to Delamere loads and just end up doing the 4x track a lot, wish I knew where all this stuff was!

It's definitely hard to find if you dont have local knowledge haha

Im over in warrington, never ventured over to Delamere as I've heard its hard to find the good stuff. I'm going to look soon though.
  • 1 0
Apart from the skills area I see stuff like this and just assume that locals have found a place out of the way
  • 1 0
There's a lot of good stuff around 4x now, and close to the dual track. There's a few good bits over by the Old Pale hill if you're familiar with that.

If you take the road that runs right through the middle of Delamere forest (School Lane or something like that), along that road there's a wooden hut (Delamere Outdoor Education Centre). If you have your back to that, turn right and head about 400 yards up the road, there are entrances (and parking area's) on either side of the road, there are cycling trails (literally just a few yards into the forest) leading away on either side.

However on the left side of the road take the gravel path about 20 yards into the forest and on your left you will see an un-named trail head. Just saunter up there and you will be on a trail called Badgers, short but fun :-)

caldwellvisuals, I've been around the 4x but not the dual track, didn't even know there was one. jskiff, thanks for that I'll have to take a look :')

I've also been to the top of old pale and down a fireroad thing but not offroad as I don't know where to go from there or if you even need to go to the top for it
  • 1 0
There used to be an awesome run on pale hill years ago, before they planted all the trees on it, can't believe they got rid of it, the finish used to be where they now hold the gigs.
  • 2 0
If you head up to the top of pale hill from Delamere, take the left at the top down the fireroad. Several newish tracks on the left that are pretty fun!

cheers for the heads up mate, I'll go and check them out

Not sure about the name of places over there, I've just wandered and wandered. Delamere is much better in spring and throughout the summer months.

Don't get me wrong, I love mud and bring on all the hell mother nature wants to through at us! Frankly it makes the challenge, success and post 'match' pint all the sweeter!

However, Delamere is so flat and drowned it can be quite dull riding there! There are some ace& fun filled short runs though!

Defo worth a blip in the summer Smile

Be great if Delemere was able to become more mtb friendly, The skills area & no brains have been around for quite some time now ,just well away from all the manicured walkers paths, I remember a half decent downhill run from the mast at old pale built by local enthusiasts who tried to make it official ,
Local horse riders complained bitterly & the forestry commission objected, Track was mostly destroyed and replaced with smooth gravel paths and a large car park. forestry commission eventually promoted this area for families with younger children shopping for ice cream.

Nice Vid man! the cave at the end is locally called "Tom Thumb's (Bum) hole" If you follow the trail over Frodsham hill onto Fox hill its in between the two. Its a good trail to use if you want to go into Delamere from Frodsham. It takes you into the forest strait onto the 4x Via Crossley then Manley.

Exactly how I love mountainbiking and the videos! Very rare to find though and always seems to come from the UK. Loved this video, could put it on replay and watch it for days

Delamere local myself Big Grin I completely agree that it needs some re-vamping
  • 3 0
i'm pretty local but have no idea where all the mtb stuff is around there?
  • 1 0
Where is that cave/sandstone??? I thought I knew my way around Delamere well!
  • 1 0
Think that cave is on the trail that goes to Frodsham hill from the back end of delamere
  • 2 0
Aye, we went up to Frodsham Hill for that cave. All the good stuff is based around the 4x track and on all of the fireroads around there really.
  • 1 0
always up for helping out delamere, its been far too long for me not going there. any of you guys got any info on the forestry commision allowing trails to be built ? was such a shame seeing most of all the features i rode when i was younger worn and knocked down
  • 1 0
Go up the fireroad at the bottom (left) of 4x and theres good trails, where the built up berms in the vid are
  • 3 0
Building is a pretty touchy subject there now. The general idea is if it's not rollable then the forestry will get rid. But there's been some features and gaps there for months now so who knows. There's a good community of riders going again so let's hope it all sticks around.

These edits are by far my favourite things to watch out of all the videos. No slow mo just railing it to some proper music. Outstanding stuff, can't wait for the next one! STOKED.

Iv been riding at del for the last 20 years I've seen clubs come and go and the trails/dirt jumps and the old pale dh track fale due to the forestry commisiion and neglect it's nice to see you guys keeping it real but watch how big you build as they will knock them down ! It needs someone to work with the forestry and it would be a cracking place but don't hold your breath! Nice vid fellas keep riding...

I didn't blink once the whole time i watched. Nuts Smile

Was lucky enough to ride a few bits with the delamere locals the other weekend. Really friendly bunch who're building some great stuff. Cheers, and keep it up!
  • 1 0
It seems there's a lot more to Delamere than what I've seen around the no-brains area. Why did they knock those big doubles down anyway? And the roadgap as well. Forestry Commission?
  • 1 0
They were demolished because someone seriously injured themselves. To be fair there is a lot of good stuff around no brains now. Some good stuff on Badgers, the roadgap is back and there's all sorts hidden over each brow.

Transitions and loam, love it !

  • 1 0
 Cheers bud. Only way!

No Streetcunt One direction and Nickleback are almost as shit. I appreciate 'music', not angry noise to inspire my riding.
  • 1 0
Great. I'm guessing you're not a musician then?! Ride on.
  • 1 0
@Mrstamper haha well said but I think the juries still out on that one, though the natives were already upset before whitey showed up.

  • 2 2
It's a very british thing.i don't think it embarked to the penals.
  • 1 2
@Mrstamper NZ wasn't a penal colony. Australia was but they got the last laugh cos now everyone wants to go there and they'll pay for the opportunity to do so.
  • 2 2
Yes my mistake.australia had the full compliment of thieves, fraudsters, shysters, bigomists, rapists etc.New zealand I understand, received a 'full deck' of simpletons, retards, inbreds, cowards and awols from the colonial theatre of war.
  • 2 1
@Mrstamper You've just accurately described the entire British upper class and aristocracy.
  • 2 1
@streetkvnt-kvit apparently we kept back the murderers and war mongerers,so not to upset the natives....I think it worked..
