Prototype Marzocchi 888 EVO Ti With Ti Nitrate Stanchions

photo
Prototype works Marzocchi fork with some internal magic and Ti-Nitrate stanchion tubes

Marzocchi has just released information on a works for that they've put together for one of their riders that is built using updated gold ti-nitrate coated stanchions that not only look the business, but should add an extra bit of sensitivity that Marzocchi forks are already well known for. Besides the stunning looks and improved smoothness, the ultra silky surface treatment can have the added benefit of offering a smoother and better surface for the fork seals to work with. The sliders are also still teflon impregnated as well. This should all add up to a fork that is as sensitive as an emo teenager kid, but a whole lot more fun to abuse. It's also worth mentioning that the process and chemicals used for these stanchion tubes is different than found on some other options available on mountain bike forks today.

There is goodness to be found on the inside as well though. Polished bushings, teflon oil additive, tweaked oil level heights, as well as a custom valved shim stack that is tuned for the riders weight and preferences.

As of right now there is no official word on availability or cost, but there are whisperings of it being available to regular peons in 2011 as either a complete fork or possibly a works upgrade with a few different stanchion color options. Start saving...

Have the new gold ti-nitrate stanchions got you excited about what Marzocchi may or may not be releasing for the 2011 season? Share your thoughts below on the new bling sliders!

Hit up the Marzocchi website to see their latest offerings, although the above fork is to new to be on there yet!

Best abuse of an Emo ever!

i read it twice in the article, best way to compare something in a while
  • 4 0
thats probably the best desscription of anything ive ever read lol.
  • 50 5
 dame they look sexy
  • 36 9
I still think that they looked the sexiest before 2008 Razz
  • 38 3
Oh yeah It's about time Marzocchi came back to what they were, really good forks !
  • 4 6
yep your right ,its looking good
  • 10 3
Yes, they look good as they are different to what we got used to see on the trails. Marzocchi had the black anodized, chrome and the 'normal' anodizing treatment to their sliders over the years. With this new coating I can see here rather a fashion change than smoothness improvement.

Hells ya heavymetal45! 40s are bomb!!!
  • 58 8
lots of people were trading 40's for the new 888 and MBUK mag did a test on all the DH forks and the 888 won... Just saying.
  • 22 4
yea for me 40s lack the sensitivity unlike my 2007 888
  • 33 5
I had a Fox 40 for two years!!! It blew up at Fontana last season and I had no way of getting repaired for the 5th time in 6 months. I purchased my 888 EVO Ti had it installed at the race and have loved it ever since! I will never look at that 40 again. I feel bad for those of you that have not had a chance to ride one of these forks yet or are just to stubborn to realize that your 40 is not the final answer to bicycle suspension.
  • 11 1
I too grew tired with constantlly fixing and servicing my 40's Though I got pretty good at It I still love my 888 rc2x much more, feels great ( admittablly not quite as nice as the 40 ) and is ZERO maitenance if You so choose, I've had it for 3 years and Only done seal and oil changes in the off season ,.

glad to see marZ back on track .

i know what im asking santa for Christmas!!
  • 7 4
i dont know for some reason those stantions look a little cheesy because the gold
  • 7 8
888s have a piece of string holding in the oil damping system. Great engineering there. My friend snapped his string and then just retied it.
  • 8 11
marzocchi made it so one can polish a turd!
  • 1 1
hang up? if thats a butted statction the how can you take the bottom crown off?
  • 2 2
It's tapered around the bottom crown as well, it's just difficult to see.

that just looks horrible... like a wannabe fork...

 shit i'd sex it...

Hey, finally some marzocchi decals that arent ghey looking!
  • 4 0
stickers are not the topic of that article...but if that's what bothered you most I can imagine your room with Ricky Martin posters Smile
  • 1 0
 not one poster.
  • 2 0
black legs on that would be tits.
  • 8 4
message to marzocchi, CHANGE THE FUCKING DECALS!!! they make the forks look cheap and lame, over the years your suspension has gotten much better but the look has gotten terrible
  • 2 0
they did change their decals... did you see the 08 09 decals that were lame. 2010 and 2011 decals are solid and simple.
  • 1 1
i completely aggree with phillipstoner, the 2005 chrome bomber stickers were the best in my opinion, bring those back in gold to match the fork Big Grin
  • 1 0
ya i have the 2006 vf2, those decals look the best i think
  • 1 0
Surely a proto is to work on performance and iron out any faults, not too make the fork look pretty?
  • 6 1
very impressive hopefully these will re-establish Marzocchi forks amongst racers
  • 2 0
they should make a remake of the marzocchi bomber jr 'ts from 2003 with the bolt on crown and the cool graphics not the other plain ones there is nothing that even looks close to that fork and there industrucable but use modern technology of course that would be cool i like these tho too
  • 1 0
Read the new issue of decline magazine, there is a new Junior T on the works!
  • 2 0
I second that. I had that fork, was perfect for when I was starting out. It was plush, simple, needed no maintenance, and was pretty bomb proof. The drop-off line lived up to its name as the biggest drop-off in quality for a single mountain bike component line, was the first sign of Marzocchi's quality decline.
  • 6 1
Looks good, this is what Marzocchi needs to get back up with Fox and Rockshox.
  • 4 0
Badass. Does the top of the stanchion tubes bent out or just taper at the top? If i had the money, id love to build three identical bikes with this, a Fox 40, and Boxxer WC.
  • 1 0
Would be awesome for someone to do a test of the different forks and shocks with identical bikes, why can't a magazine do back to back tests like that?
  • 3 0
That would require common sense...something rare on our planet now...
  • 2 1
why compare this, and a fox 40 to a boxxer wc? test it with boxxer team, so they are all coil forks.
  • 1 0
tru dat, most fork reviews tend to be filled to the brim with tech jargon and very little real world application, but at the same time it must be a difficult thing to test. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has ridden the same lines hundreds of times and had a couple of times where you're just not 'feeling' the the fork that day...so it must quite hard to make exact comparisons. I doubt really whether top end factory forks really feel so different to one another as to be hugely noticeable when performing, I think the benefit comes in the upgrade side of forks; tftuned, mojo (uk) is where the noticeable performance boost comes in...not forgetting having your fork damped and sagging correctly which is probably the most important thing of all.
  • 2 0
They should bring the manufacturing back to Italy, where it belongs. Since 2008 you could see somewhat degradation in their level of quality. I'm sure some will agree. Anyhow, this fork looks promising and the good old graphics are back!
  • 1 1
yer but since 2008 there products have gradually been becoming back up to standards as the years go past
  • 1 0
for 2010 they did bring it back to italy - get with the times!
  • 1 0
only for the higher end ones and some mid range, however these forks would fit in the higher end of course
  • 1 0
Adi, tune it right and it will work right. see my 66 and Eli's Smile looks pretty sick though, i wish they will do the same with the new EVO catridge and that coating with the 66, if so i can see my next fork
  • 2 0
That's some serious bling there, I tried out a Kashima-coated Kowa fork before and it was the smoothest thing that is not a top-shelf fork variant. Has MTB forks tried using two kinds of coatings in the inner and outer fork legs like a combo of DLC/Kashima in MX forks?
  • 5 0
$3500 for that i bet better give me brain with it
  • 4 0
This should all add up to a fork that is as sensitive as an emo teenager kid, but a whole lot more fun to abuse. lmfao
  • 1 0
Yeah. Made my day too! lol
  • 4 0
nothing beats the 05 range of everything on mtb wolrd in terms of quality in my modest opinion...
  • 4 0
I'm still riding a 2004 Marz 888 with 2 rebuilds on it, this year I already have 16 rides with it and still great.
  • 1 0
I thought they started making triples 8s in 05 at least this is what I gathered from there web site
  • 1 0
No, 2004 they started the 888R and also an OEM version the 888RT which was on 2004 Norco A-Lines.
  • 1 0
Yep,i'll have a set, just to put through it's paces,as a regular unsponsered rider of 34 yrs old, just send them to the usual address, cheers. At least ya'll get a worts 'n' all write up from me.
And it just so happens i'm putting a DH rig together as we speak, and low and behold i'm short a set of forks, and my choice of forks & shocks has always been the big 'M',so if ya can get them to me asap it'd be well appreciated.
Thanks a lot,
Gringo.Joker lol

If marzocchi really wanted to improve their fork they could just shell out some cash for the boxxer bolt on stem pattern. I think some people are scared back fox/sram forks because their fancy 150$ stem from last season wont bolt onto a 888.
  • 1 1
The 888 bolt on stem is the only one that bolts the stem to the crown and at the same time clamps the steertube.
  • 1 0
They would be better off with the boxxer/40 stem bolt pattern.
  • 1 0
the marzocchi stem system it's awful I own one and its the most difficult thing to tighten in my bike because my onePOINTfive headtube wont let me insert a allen key from underneath. I have to remove the whole crown to get the stem unbolted. Really sucks
  • 1 0
I would love a sub 7lb Shiver. I had an 02 Shiver, 04 888r, 06 888 rcx2, 07 66rc2x and an 08 66Rc3x. The Shiver and 07 66 where the best feeling Marzocchis. My 2010 40 and Boxxer Team just don't live up to the Shiver. Now to make an inverted fork that doesn't leak.
  • 1 0
 The shiver will be back!
  • 1 1
But will it be offered in the States and what will it weigh?
  • 2 1
just my opinion, but bikes and parts are getting so fucking ugly, but I'm sure someone said that shit back in 2004 when the first 888s came out, and we'll all survive even if bikes do look different, damn I just ranted soo hard
  • 1 0
Hey, I got a lot of crotch juggling information on these comments right here. I know for a fact, that there will be a 55 Tripple 2011, but I had no idea about the Shiver and Juniors. Is this all true, have Marzocchi really tasted blood again?
  • 1 0
Word has that Marzocchi is actually building this particular fork in house in thier So Cal facility. I WANT ONE NOW... I never post in these places but I could not help but finally stick my hand in the mix.
  • 3 0
OMG D best looking 888 for sure, so shiny I love it Marzocchi rider since 2001 hell yeah!
  • 1 0
IMHO its borderline fugly, I think the boxxers are way better looking. They still make the shiver, but its a moto fork and weighs 5.8kg. It's a stem in the right direction tho, its better looking than their older ones.
  • 1 0
EURO BIKE HAS AN ARTICLE ON THE "WORKS" FORK SEEN IN THE PIC ... MORE COLORS TOO ,
OH AND IM ACCEPTING DONATIONS IF YOU GUYS WANT TO BUY ME A PAIR THX

  • 2 1
Best 888 EVER was in 2007 with the Silver coating and Ti springs. As soon as they went to Air, they went to SH*T. I still rock that fork and it performs awesome.
  • 1 0
Is this a Marzocchi come back??? only time will tell, maybe we'll start seeing the boxxers and fox 40's start to disappear in favour of these... or maybe not:P
  • 1 0
This is just to show that they can beat fox on weight and performance. GET READY BOYS CAUSE NEXT STOP FOR MARZOCCHI IS TO BEAT THE DORADOS AT THEIR GAME! SO I HAVE BEEN TOLD!
  • 1 0
And do they have to beat from Dorado?
  • 1 0
 The shiver is back
  • 2 2
enrico650-marzocchi weighs all their forks without any oil. after that thing is full of oil it will be heavier than the 40. we weighed both at the lbs and weighs 7.2 with oil(fox was 6.8 with ti spring and oil). just to give you a heads up
  • 2 1
Get a new scale and a set perscription bifocals.
I tested the fork before it came in to production (check my profile)
We had at hand a fox and others, not only our fork came a few ounces ligther, the 888 is the only fork that can be serviced by your local bike shops, shim and stack system can be adjusted at marzocchi at no xtra cost to you (170.00 for fox)
Maybe you have better credentials and wish to clarify this.
  • 2 0
wow your profile states nothing except for you like to comment on everyones stuff for sale...i have had all of my fox 40's serviced by my local bike shop and they have been great. sorry to say but i will not ride a marz since they have gone downhill in 08. its going to take more than a new product to revive whats left of the company.(ps i rode marz moto for quite a while so please dont try and use your b/s credentials on me and other fellow pinkbikers. post up some real information...
  • 1 0
lol, Marzo have also given stated weights without the steerer tube in the past [which added another 545g to their dj forks].... like, seriously??? is the steerer tube not essential or something!? rofl!
  • 1 0
skateer... all my buddies who had 40s key word being "had" now ride the 888 evo ti after riding mine. There is hands down no comparing these forks. The 40 lacks the sensitivity and small bump compliance of the new 888 and the easy to tune and access shim stack makes it a breeze to custom tune. Sorry but those are facts.
  • 1 0
not saying the new evo ti isnt a great fork. it is. just saying that marzocchi's weights seem to always be off. ps the kashima coating makes a word of difference in small bump. take one for a spin, big difference from 2010 40.
  • 2 0
Marzocchi is advertising with all this dark vampire shit nowadays... might as well call this the Emo Ti fork
  • 1 0
One of the rods in my 888 rc2x just broke inside (threads got strip), very sad. Anyone know were I can get parts for a 07 888 rc2x? Or maybe I can re thread it.
  • 1 0
i was wondering if this is true but ive seen that you can only get heavy to medium spring weights so i dont think the rc3 evo ti 2011 would be any good for me
  • 2 0
wow those forks are nice! i want some.
  • 1 0
they are some sexy forks but im gonna stick with the 2004 888r with 222mm travel as they withstand some serious hucking Wink
  • 1 0
mmmm no es nada nuevo ya boxxer tubo unas barras asi hace mucho tiempo.....2003
  • 2 0
if i could have a wish right now this fork would be what i would wish for
  • 2 0
Damn those are Prime. Primer than megan Fox's Ass
  • 2 0
k so it looks like bill gates couldnt afford that fork.....but looks great
  • 1 0
Looks goooood. I still have to feel the 2010 Evo ti lol... But nothing beat my 2007 888 Rc2x wc yet !
  • 2 0
So sick! Wonder if the 66 and 55 will have nitrate aswell...
  • 1 0
Sick. Looks to be a few structural changes to the Fork itself too. (bulged out stanchions...)
  • 1 0
You might even miss the look of that fork when you send it back because it leaks oil...
  • 1 0
Love zocchi's! My 05 888rc w/ gold caps still rocks hard tasty abs, washer board style, glistening in the sun...
  • 1 0
marzocchi is showing its good side now, i want to see this fork in action!!!!!
  • 1 0
One question is this Made in italy with marzocchi internals? Or just a crap made in taiwan with SR Suntour?...
  • 1 0
I think it would be better in black with the way those stantions are colored.
  • 2 0
wha wha whaaat? i'm in love
  • 1 0
Generally speaking, I always wonder. How much better could forks get than they're now ?
  • 1 0
titanium nitride as a colour has already been done on marz, looked better then, looks very shiny now hmm
  • 2 0
Yeah well my forks a coated with love. Marketing much?
  • 1 0
the black TiNi coated version looks 1000x better. that fork on the top of the page is Bryson Martin jr's fork.
  • 2 0
 I came...
  • 1 0
 DAYYUUMMMM!!!! Forks gottit goin on!!
  • 1 0
damn me they look lush. gettin me a pair of those when they come out Smile
  • 2 1
If only... Purple and gold now thats pimpin colours
  • 1 0
2012 line is out and still no ti nitrate... we ever going to see it?
  • 2 0
 omg that looks sweet
  • 1 0
I wish that they would be lighter!
  • 1 0

  • 1 3
hey whats up with the fatter tubes at the top? how you supposed to take off the lower tree
  • 1 0
if you look they they taper back to 38mm before the bottom crown just like all the other 888s do
  • 2 4
maybe this one won't suck.... just kidding i moved on to bigger and better Fox Racing shox, and RockShox
  • 1 0
dude boxxers are cheezey people say well marz is just ripping the other companies horse shit it took RS until 2010 to figure out that 32mm was not strong enough so what do they do they take 35mm which mars had light years before rockshox is shit in my eyes fox shox are good but I whould never try to compare an RS to a marz
  • 1 0
Never said marz was ripping off anything and I ran marz until 2007 but thats the last year that they didn't suck, I am talking from a product standpoint and company. I WILL NEVER RUN ANOTHER MARZOCCHI until they get their shit together, and start producing something that lives up to the z1.
